Angel Delight, did I get it wrong? 😇

Is it smooth, soft whip consistency or does it hold its shape and has bubbles?

Hadnt had it in years, eyeballed the 300 ml of milk.

Husband said it had a strange texture, thick with bubbles. He said it should be soft and smooth.

Who’s right?

Shape and bubbles! Your DH may be thinking of Instant Whip!

jossysgiant · 24/06/2022 18:35

Thick with bubbles is the right texture, it was never smooth

FlibbertyGiblets · 24/06/2022 18:38

Bubbles.

Bubbles, like Aero. There was another dessert mix which was smooth so he may be thinking of that.

Pippinbird · 24/06/2022 18:38

@CaptaNoctem

ahhh you could be right with the instant whip confusion!

Want some for my tea now, but assume it doesn’t have the same yummy ‘chemicals’ it used to have in it!

You’re right! It didn’t taste quite the same!

I loved butterscotch!

ChagSameachDoreen · 24/06/2022 18:45

I could murder a butterscotch angel delight right about now Grin

AlloftheTime · 24/06/2022 18:47

I had a packet of colour changing angel delight last night - it didn’t change colour….,

No help but you've just reminded me that we used to get a similar pudding which had instructions to use a larger volume of milk to make thick milkshakes, or a smaller vole of milk to make thick pudding (with bubbles in!) to eat with a spoon.
We had such fun as kids, choosing how much milk to use and whipping it up.

Nesquick?

This has brought back memories! What was that whip desert you used to make with milk and then sprinkle biscuit on? That used to taste amazing..

teawamutu · 24/06/2022 19:00

Butterscotch Angel Delight with chopped Mars bars in it.

Ultimate dessert of childhood.

This has reminded me of a milkshake I used to get about 25 years ago.

it wasn’t refrigerated - in a carton I think - and you whisked it up. It was amazing.

I also loved butterscotch angel delight with instant whip. The trick was to leave it in the fridge for an hour. Yum

PriamFarrl · 24/06/2022 19:01

One word of warning to others. Angel Delight doesn’t set with oat milk. No idea about other non dairy milks.

ExtremelyDedicated · 24/06/2022 19:03

Don’t you have to leave it for a while to thicken up and go bubbly?

Eddielizzard · 24/06/2022 19:06

Bubbles!! And if you don't quite mix it in properly you get streaks of powder yummmm

Pippinbird · 24/06/2022 19:07

I’ve got another packet for tonight (butterscotch). Will taste even better knowing I was right ha! Thanks everybody

I bought some icing ( ready made) from Tescos recently. It’s from the finest range, strawberry’s and cream flavour. I couldn’t work out why the flavour was familiar until I took half the cake into work and one of the girls said it tasted just like Angel Delight.
I now need to buy a pack just to see if she is right.

I find that most non-dairy milks I've tried are much more "watery" than actual milk, so I have to cut the amount down a lot
I can't remember exactly but it was c. 200mls of rice milk instead of 300mls of "real" milk
My family members still remember the "chocolate soup" I ended up with, the first time I tried it with rice milk 😂

Don't do it. It's just not the same anymore!

DirtyteaCup · 24/06/2022 19:23

No- it is now gross- they have reduced the sugar and added a load of crap.

(oat milk isnt milk- but saying oatey water wouldnt let them charge as much)

Bergamotte · 24/06/2022 19:23

LIZS it definitely wasn't Nesquick. (Parents boycotted Nestlé)
It was probably Lidl own brand. Sachets of powder which you whipped up with milk, poured into glasses or bowls, then left in the fridge to set. For something like 10 - 20 mins; not hours and hours.
