Honestly I’m about to jack it in and post elsewhere! It’s either crashing or the thread your in is constantly reloading and you lose any response you are writing. It’s utterly infuriating!

There's an explanation in a thread on Site Stuff - www.mumsnet.com/talk

This is another thing that irritates me about MN. Surely information about the sitewide problems should be more obvious, for example a sticky thread or on their social media pages? Confused

It's great they replied to the user about the problem but not everyone will read that thread, and it leads to repeated posts and confusion as many users have no idea what's going on.

Clawdy · 14/06/2022 08:17

Much slower now, and I don't like the way you can't go straight to the last page of a thread you're on, you have to go to page one, then click on the last number. So irritating!

GrabbyGabby · 14/06/2022 08:27

It has been so shit for so long i am starting to really suspect ulterior motives.

This level of service will kill the site. Literally no other site i use on a regular basis has anything like the issues this site has. Whatever the reasons/excuses are, these issues have been so longstanding that it is clear it is not only tech issues at play.

Maybe Justine has had enough. Maybe the TRAs / MRAs have infiltrated the tech team. It very much feels like death by 1000 cuts.

DawnMumsnet · 14/06/2022 09:19

Morning all,

We're really sorry about the issues with the site. We've been updating this thread in our Site Stuff topic.

Here's what we posted late last night -

MattTech · Yesterday 23:47

Apologies that this is happening.

We’re experiencing an issue with one of our servers which is causing downtime. Unfortunately, it’s not an easily-diagnosed issue and we’ve been making changes to mitigate it for the past week or so. Each one of those mitigations helped us to rule out another variable to try to get to the solution.

We think we’ve found the problem and are currently provisioning a brand new server to replace the one that is having issues.

@RebOrHon The 5-second delay is a mechanism to space requests to the site out to help the affected server recover. Its primary use case is to mitigate DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks. In this case, however, it was being used to allow the affected server to not become overwhelmed by our normal user traffic.

We understand how frustrating this is and we’re doing everything we can to prevent this from happening.

Thank you for bearing with us.

Rollergirl11 · 14/06/2022 09:50

@DawnMumsnet what about the issue with the page reloading and losing what you’ve typed? Once you are actually able to access Mumsnet this is still making Talk untenable.

Why are you so dependent on a single server? Where is the back up? Was this flagged on your risk log, and what contingencies did you have in place?

This is not just tech problems at play. Problems will always occur, but decent tech and risk planning will limit their impact. These on going issues are massively eroding trust in the site and consequently damaging your brand.

You need better tech and risk expertise, but in the meantime you might want to consider a more open dialogue with your users about the problems you are experiencing, this is really the only immediate way to help limit damage.

Down 2 hours for the last 2 nights here too!.. Not much of an " upgrade" is it?!

pixie5121 · 14/06/2022 12:25

The glitches with posting and commenting have been happening for months on end now and there's no sign of any of them being resolved. Stuff like not automatically being taken to the latest post on a watched thread. I'm a developer and if a bug like this appeared, I'd be expected to fix it within the hour, or at least by the end of the day, and no I'm not kidding. It's not a difficult fix. The idea that they just let hundreds of thousands of users keep using a site full of annoying bugs is mind blowing.

Why are you depending on a single server? Why do you not seem to have anything in place to scale? This is not some crazy unforeseen issue - it's a normal part of planning for the everyday running of a popular website.

isthismylifenow · 19/06/2022 08:10

Posting here again. I thought I'd give the site another go..... But nope, when I cannot even scroll through a post because of a huge shoe ad, on my mobile if I try to scroll down and accidently click anywhere near this ad it freezes the whole page, I then have to click to go back, lose where I was in the thread as it takes me back to the main page. And not even to where I was on the main page!

I've tried to be patient, but it's just becoming infuriating and hard work to try to contribute.

If you are losing members thick and fast MNHQ, this is why.

Inthesameboatatmo · 19/06/2022 12:00

Still crashing on me while I'm mid thread. A joke is what it is now.

WildFlowerBees · 20/06/2022 13:11

All 'watching' or 'I'm on' threads STILL remain highlighted on iOS after reading. What exactly has been upgraded?

PLEASE STOP deleting threads so that they just disappear from ‘Threads I’m on’ without even the courtesy of a message. I honestly feel like I’m going mad - it reminds me of the horrors of my gaslighting boss who used to make me doubt my own sanity.

Bookmarking. I press to bookmark, the little circle spins....and spins...and spins. Page crashes. Have to open in a completely new tab. It happens four or five times a day. Cleared cookies/ history. Makes absolutely no difference.

isthismylifenow · 17/07/2022 14:09

I am testing out replying in this post, seeing I have been trying to respond to a reply to one of my other posts, since FRIDAY! Nope, can't quote, can't copy the reply and post, in fact I can't even reply on that thread at all. No it's not a full post and it's bloody infuriating.

So if this posts, it will be a bloody miracle.

Mnhq if you need to know, it's the weather thread, I can't post or do a thing on that thread on Android nor on my laptop on Chrome. In fact now the post won't even load on Chrome.

It's pissing me off a lot.
