Carcinoma?

Hi, I'm being stupid really as I am winding myself up. I can't see a gp tomorrow but I can book for an appointment at least.

This bump appeared on my thigh maybe 2-3 years ago. I just thought - oh another one, getting old, lumps and bumps. I have a few, but they are under the skin. This one has continued to grow on top of the skin and is approx 1cm diameter.

Don't want to waste GP time, but need kick up the bum all the same.

I probably should add that I was due blood test to see why immune system so low in December, it was cancelled due to the urgency of the booster jab (I think)

And not to drip feed but I am Asperger's and don't deal with sorting life very well. I can take a diagnoses, but just making appointment ... Well like I say, it's been a while.

Thank you.

I have several lumps like that on my legs - have had them checked and they’re nothing sinister. Obviously need to get it checked but don’t panic

nightshade · 09/06/2022 19:39

Yep...looks just like a basal cell carcinoma....i had one removed from my face about 3 weeks ago...slow growing...generally non malignant...had mine about 3 years.

I know a few people who had carcinoma, they have cancerous cell but once removed that the end of it.

Albgo · 09/06/2022 19:47

If it is a basal cell carcinoma it's honestly not a terrible thing. I've just had one removed from my forehead that I'd ignored for a couple of years. I was referred to dermatology after a gp appointment. They did a biopsy and then got me back a few months later for a full excision. All done and dusted and cancer free.

Kerrrmieee · 09/06/2022 19:59

Thank you all. As said I've had various lumps and bumps that have come with age (I assume). But this has been the only one that has grown and is above the skin.

Appreciate the messages, I'm not particularly panicking but because of how I am I need some reassurance that not completely wasting GP time.

I shall call in the morning and update!

Ps child of the 70s - no sunscreen etc, have mole checks as and when, but never had anything like this before.

Thank you.

And well done to all who took action and got treated ❤️

Oh and that's my inner thigh btw - hasn't seen much sun since the 80s!

Looks pale in original post. In it's full beauty.

I'll just call GP. Will spend all night talking to self in meantime 🤣

Just don't go on youtube to watch medical procedures!!...

I have white coat syndrome and had myself in a right state before my appointment!....

I am currently sporting a lovely facial scar...apparently it adds character!

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 09/06/2022 20:56

Definitely needs checked but whatever it is it must be fairly slow growing, so likely to either be nothing or sortable I would have thought?

Georgeskitchen · 09/06/2022 20:58

You're not wasting GPS time, you are concerned and that is why we have doctors. I hope its something simple and nothing to worry about. Get that appointment made!!

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 09/06/2022 21:03

Always worth getting lumps and bumps checked out. I had a BCC. I had no idea it was cancerous (and I’m a nurse!). Mine looked nothing like yours to be fair, mine was translucent and you could see all the veins running through it. Mine was “large” according to the medics, about 2cm by 3cm! Dealt with under local anaesthetic and scar has healed nicely.

Get it checked out. If it’s nothing it’ll be a weight off your mind. If it’s potentially something they’ll refer you.

Cancer and carcinoma are the same thing. Cancer is short for carcinoma, there's no difference.

Basel cell carcinomas are cancer and are malignant as all cancers are. Cancers are the same thing as carcinomas, there's zero difference.

Basel cell carcinomas are extremely slow growing and non invasive which means that the chances of them spreading and doing any real damage are practically nil although they obviously need removed as do all cancers.

Kerrrmieee · 09/06/2022 23:48

Thanks all @nightshade you made me laugh. If I go on YouTube or Google Dr then I usually have a brain tumour!

I'm glad I created this thread as it is a reminder to me to pick up the phone and wait 39 minutes to be asked if it's urgent... Well no... But.. !

OP posts:
SpinstileTurnstile · 10/06/2022 06:31

“Is it urgent?”

”It’s important, yes. I need to be checked for skin cancer, please.”

I am being treated for BCCs at present. Dermatology Dept has been very supportive and reassuring.

SpinstileTurnstile · 10/06/2022 06:44

P.s. best of luck, OP.

Kerrrmieee · 10/06/2022 12:43

@SpinstileTurnstile thank you - I did use your quote but still wandered off in to the - well it's been 2 years so I'm sure I can manage another week 🤣

Appointment booked though. Thurs 23rd. Sadly blood tests I was due to have due to low immune system have dropped off and as the receptionist very not reassuringly said : " well you may as well rebook with the GP when you see them, as they might want to add other things to it" Haha, yeah cheers!

Good luck to you too, thank you for posting.

Phew, enough life admin for me for one day 😉

Maybe it's just a wart and I'm miss minging thigh 🤣

SpinstileTurnstile · 11/06/2022 08:54

Glad you got an appointment sorted. Make a note to yourself to ask about the blood tests as well!

Kerrrmieee · 12/06/2022 15:01

Haha thank you@SpinstileTurnstile It's in my phone calendar, says bloods too. But I may need to write "ask about bloods on forehead"

That will be written just above where I should tattoo "Asda ask me if I need toilet roll before I pay and walk a mile home" 🤣

Kerrrmieee · 14/09/2022 03:17

Thank you for all the replies. Was seen by a dermatologist today and it's to be removed and to be biopsied.

They think it's not harmful but are erring on the side of caution as Dr said she could not be 100%

So we shall see, at least it will be gone.

OP posts:
ErinAoife · 14/09/2022 04:57

It is good that you got it checked. Keep up updated with the result

Kerrrmieee · 29/09/2022 23:07

Thank you @ErinAoife

Received letter today, biopsy booked for end of October so that's good.

Just reading about how to expect stitches and maybe 3 times size removal... Eek!!

Oh well, it is what it is and I'm grateful that it's being seen to so swiftly considering the state of the ... World 🤣
