Carcinoma?

Hi, I'm being stupid really as I am winding myself up. I can't see a gp tomorrow but I can book for an appointment at least.

This bump appeared on my thigh maybe 2-3 years ago. I just thought - oh another one, getting old, lumps and bumps. I have a few, but they are under the skin. This one has continued to grow on top of the skin and is approx 1cm diameter.

Don't want to waste GP time, but need kick up the bum all the same.

I probably should add that I was due blood test to see why immune system so low in December, it was cancelled due to the urgency of the booster jab (I think)

And not to drip feed but I am Asperger's and don't deal with sorting life very well. I can take a diagnoses, but just making appointment ... Well like I say, it's been a while.

Thank you.

I have one…examined and diagnosed as a BCC late 2021 and put on surgery wait list for excision….in February 2022. I called in August as it had been 6 mos for an update and told they are doing the people referred in 2018 now and they’ll get to me when they get to me….so maybe in a couple of years?

Just a heads up that it may be quick to diagnose as BCC, but not as quick to get the surgery of removing it.

BertaHoon · 29/09/2022 23:17

Thanks @Discovereads but the letter assures me that it is biopsy and removal.

BertaHoon · 29/09/2022 23:21

They are taking the whole thing out.

I have also had several, BCC removed. I'm quite old though at 52. The first time I had this I was very scared so I understand. It's very very treatable though. I think of it as skin rust. They'll just take it off. I think I've had four removed.

BertaHoon · 29/09/2022 23:26

Ah ya wee name change fail 🤣
@Discovereads

How can you have a bcc diagnosed if they haven't biopsied it?

My dermatologist was very clear that she couldn't be sure, but it will be removed and then biopsied.

Fucking stressful enough as it is thanks without false input.

BertaHoon · 29/09/2022 23:28

Thank you @highdaysandholudays

I wasn't actually that worried until somebody started doubting me letter lol.

My brother's had a few removed.

Irish fair skinned children of the 70s... It's to be expected 🤣

Thank you xx

They diagnosed it with specialised teledermatology photography and sent the photos to a consultant dermatologist consultant who diagnosed it as a BCC and referred me for surgery to have it fully excised. It doesn’t have to be biopsied to be diagnosed.

MY dermatologist was 100% sure it was a BCC. Just because yours was borderline and may not even be cancerous doesn’t mean everyone else’s is the same.

So it’s not a “false input”. How dare you accuse me of such. I was sharing the fact I currently have skin cancer right now (again) and have been waiting for months and counting to have it removed!!

Oh and here is my fucking letter proving it. Read it.

Calm down.

Mine is being biopsied. As in removed. You told me it wouldn't be.

Start your thread.

It looks a bit like a dermatofibroma I had on my leg. They’re completely harmless but can be annoying and get inflamed. Mine was removed and they had to go fairly deep to get it out leaving a scar but it was on the underside of my thigh and was driving me nuts.

BertaHoon · 30/09/2022 01:13

I don't really care any more, I was replying to @ErinAoife to keep updated.

I'm updating on my own situation.

It's being removed and biopsied end of.

I didn’t say your BCC wouldn’t be removed. Biopsy and removal are two separate things. You can get a biopsy without removal. Sometimes biopsies are done just to diagnose and the surgical removal happens later (I’ve had this happen).

I was posting to share with you that there might be a delay between diagnosis and removal because that’s the situation I am in. I didn’t know you were scheduled for biopsy and removal at the same appointment/concurrently. Your posts were not clear on that. I was just trying to be helpful.

You really didn’t need to imply I was lying about having a BCC or to say that my post was “false input”. So I posted my letter showing my diagnosis because that was really hurtful and mean of you to say. I wouldn’t come on MN and fake having skin cancer to give bad info. That’s not me.

BertaHoon · 01/10/2022 16:39

False input came from you telling me that what was on my letter from university hospital dermatology city to be carried out in my home town hospital was not correct, or whatever.

Can't be arsed updating now. But it tells me I'm going for a minor skin operation. The dermatologist from the university hospital said it would be removed then biopsied.

The letter says for myself to prepare for 3 times the area to be removed, that I will have stitches. That I need to keep dry for 48 hours. Contact GP to have stitches removed ... Yada tada

So... Am gone. Cheers for wading in.

BertaHoon · 01/10/2022 16:41

With your effing and jeffing....

I'm sorry for what you are going through, but your situation is not mine.

Discovereads · 01/10/2022 16:58

False input came from you telling me that what was on my letter from university hospital dermatology city to be carried out in my home town hospital was not correct, or whatever.

But you posted that your letter said:

Received letter today, biopsy booked for end of October so that's good.

I never said that your letter was incorrect. At all. I told you my situation and the only thing I said to you was Just a heads up that it may be quick to diagnose as BCC, but not as quick to get the surgery of removing it. Lots of people appreciate info about the state of NHS wait lists.

Biopsy doesn’t always include removal you seem to think it does…I’ve been down the road before when I had a very large melanoma on my scalp. They biopsied it, diagnosed it and then I went to a plastic surgeon for removal and underwent chemo. You are grossly mistaken if you think someone would read “biopsy” after you’ve said you haven’t even been diagnosed and think it automatically includes removal as well.

Your first response was all you needed to do. You didn’t need to launch an attack on me implying I was lying about having a BCC with the “how can you have a BCC if it hasn’t been biopsied” jab and then going on about “false input” for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

It’s really disheartening to see you doubling down when you owe me an apology. It’s probably best you start a new thread anyway as you’ve not come off well in this one at all.

Okay, thank you for hijacking my thread.

I'll update previous posters at the end of Oct as to what happened.

I didn't even read your post.
