Marlboro Red cigarettes.

Any current or ex-smokers with experience of these tabs ? I'm not a smoker but I've heard that Marlboro Red are quite 'heavy duty' and not for the faint hearted. I expect the same could be said of other premium cigarettes like Benson and Hedges Gold and Regal King Size. Is there any substance to what folk say about them. Just interested.

Thankyou.

Marlboro Red were the best. The soft pack had even more cool factor, but were not exactly the practical option.

I spent ages perfecting flicking a fag out the soft pack, then lighting my zippo with a click of the fingers

When I started smoking you could buy 10 Rothmans for 70p, and the school newsagent used to illegally sell individual cigs for 12p each.

Also loved Vogue and Virginia slims when I was in holiday, long and skinny

RedRobyn2021 · 06/06/2022 20:59

I smoked Malboro lights, reds were too strong for me and silk cut was like smoking nothing

Omg this thread is making me miss smoking

Yes. Some people had the knack of somehow opening a soft pack in the corner and just ‘tapping’ a cigarette out. I did not.

PeterPomegranate · 06/06/2022 21:02

Although I did teach myself to open & light a zippo lighter on the thigh of my jeans.

PeterPomegranate · 06/06/2022 21:03

I thought I was cool 😂

PeterPomegranate · 06/06/2022 21:04

Oh! @Matchingcollarandcuffs - you were obviously much cooler than me

HellonHeels · 06/06/2022 21:04

Those Sobranie black ones with the gold filter - so glam!

My mum used to get the coloured Sobranies sometimes, they made smoking fun

MintyGreenDream · 06/06/2022 21:06

Haven't smoked in nearly 10 years but I loved Marlborough lights on holiday and menthol the rest of the time

GrandPricks · 06/06/2022 21:07

I smoked b&h and if I ran out and ponced a silk cut I'd lick the little holes over the filter to block them 😀

maddiemookins16mum · 06/06/2022 21:10

I smoke Marboro Gold - albeit I can make a pack of 20 last me Monday to Friday.

RausageSoul · 06/06/2022 21:11

Awwww I miss smoking and being 23!

queenrollo · 06/06/2022 21:12

Back in the 90s before I moved on to rolling my own I smoked Marlboro Red, sometimes Camel and for a while I really liked Lucky Strike (It's Toasted!)

There were some 6th formers in our social group and one of them confiscated a pack of Woodbines off a younger kid smoking by the bike sheds. They went round everyone and ended up with me - I was pretty hardcore but even I couldn't smoke them!

hugoagogo · 06/06/2022 21:13

Regal King size for me, with occasional packs of Camels for a night out.
Does anyone remember "Death" cigarettes, they went with the goth look.Wink

afrikat · 06/06/2022 21:15

They were definitely v strong. I would have them occasionally and always ended up hoarse. It's been 17 years and noooow I want a cigarette 🚬

NashvilleQueen · 06/06/2022 21:16

Marlboro lights menthol and a cup of coffee. Happy days.

I also liked Lucy Strikes for a holiday change.

My friend used to smoke Black Russians and those pastel coloured ones. She had to go to a specialist tobacconist for them.

Not had a cigarette for 16+ years. Still miss it the odd time.

queenrollo · 06/06/2022 21:17

and I haven't had a cigarette for 7 years but this thread is making me feel nostalgic for a soft pack of Marlboro and a Zippo lighter.

WhatIsThisPlease · 06/06/2022 21:22

I smoked these!! With my Marlboro Zippo lighter that I had from saving up the cigarette packets and sending off for! When you weren't saving the packets, if you were really cool you smoked the soft top. If you knew what you were doing you could flick the packet at the bottom and one single cigarette popped out. Literally the epitome of 90s cool 😂

My lungs are hurting just thinking about them. They really were strong and also had a terrible smell!!!

WildRosie · 06/06/2022 21:22

I apologise to all the ex-smokers who are now craving cigarettes. I'm sorry, this wasn't my intention!

Hell yes to the soft pack and Zippos! A cigarette tastes so much better with a Zippo lighting kit.

Sigh.

kierenthecommunity · 06/06/2022 21:27

Consulate menthols were my favourite

Mine too, but I got some Marboro Lights Methol on holiday in the US and was thrilled when they came out in the UK as I thought they were way cooler

They had Marboro Methols (non light) in America too but they were grim

BringMeTea · 06/06/2022 21:27

Ah 'Big Reds'. I bloody loved them.

Germolenequeen · 06/06/2022 21:29

Marlboro Red were nothing like B&H - they tasted much more mellow somehow.

Camel - weird and very smelly.

Sobranie Cocktail looked great but that's all there was to them.

Lucky Strike were the coolest IMO 😎.

SilverTown · 06/06/2022 21:30

Marlboro Ted were my worst days as a smoking youngster. Very rough and woody and smelled dirty.

I loved B&H gold, or Embassy if not available. Also incredibly strong, and a bit more chemically Grin.

God, smoking is disgusting but I bloody loved it.

SilverTown · 06/06/2022 21:31

Red

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 06/06/2022 21:42

Dh used to smoke them. I wasn’t a smoker, except when drunk and/or in Paris.French Marlboro were amazing, but not as good as gaulois.
