Binley Mega Chippy

We are staying in Yorkshire for a few days, on our way back to London, our daughter is desperate to visit BMC in Coventry. I don't understand the excitement but it's not too much of a detour so I said yes - but we can't find out if it's open on Sunday evenings. Google says 24 hours, a photo of its opening times says closed all day, another website claims midday until 11pm. Does anyone know?

We went, it was closed, my daughter was very happy. Thank you for all your help.

I think you’re lovely for wanting to do this for her because she’s been good!
It’s on my uncle’s road, sometimes when we go up to visit them (2 hours away) we get fish and chips - but from another chippy because he says that one’s crap! So we’ve been finding this all very amusing 😂

Dancetherain · 06/06/2022 08:10

@TheChosenTwo it's madness isn't it? I drove past to take the kids to Combe Abbey last week and the queue was halfway round the pub! Eaten there a few times as its on the way home from MILs but wouldn't be my first choice.

ChagSameachDoreen · 06/06/2022 08:12

This whole debacle symbolises the utter sheep-like idiocy of human beings.

onepieceoflollipop · 06/06/2022 08:17

Waving to other Coventry people. Smile

Finding the thread very amusing.
We’ve been City of Culture, had lots going on, but becoming increasingly famously for what I gather is a fairly average chippy.
my own teens are a bit bemused by it - they and their friends have mild interest in it but not sufficient to go and queue!

however, I am very pleased for the place - I am sure business is booming.

It is definitely about visiting this site of TikTok specialness rather than expecting exceptional food.

It has a website? Why couldn't I find that???

A Tiktok famous chippy? Fuck sake.

KenAdams · 06/06/2022 08:46

I have to pass it on my way into work and I haven't been in since the craze started. Dreading the traffic tomorrow.

shebuildsquickmachines · 06/06/2022 08:56

Ha ha we live on the Leicestershire/ Coventry border and took our dc yesterday

Was closed but they got pics

It was rammed - I wish I'd taken some leaflets for my business to stick on it somewhere 😜

MayDaze · 06/06/2022 08:57

There are some miserable people commenting. It isn't meant to be amusing to us lot, it's the teens who find it funny and we as the older generation aren't supposed to find it funny and are fully expected to be bemused by it.

Similar to my grandparents being horrified by a man in makeup (Boy George) on Top of the Pops and loudly declaring "ridiculous, what is this country coming to! He's nothing but a silly attention seeker" 😂

I live a third of a mile around the corner and I assure you that it's not worth the hype for the food. It's my local chippy and I would rather drive to one further away.

But I'm guessing the TikTok fame isn't for the food; it's just a joke to the teenagers. Bit of harmless fun really.

About to say rhe same. It's ok, but there are better chippies in Coventry (have family there)

Beautiful3 · 06/06/2022 09:01

Honestly, it's just a chip chop and nothing special! I live near it.

Aww I'm glad she was happy even with it being closed. It's mad how this place has gone viral but apparently the food is average at best anyway!

SpaceRock · 06/06/2022 09:05

People are so grumpy.

Of course its not about the food. Its the 'clout' ad the young folk would say.

It's supposed to be funny. The whole point is that it's a random, average chippy. That's what makes it amusing.

It's just a fad, like figet spinners and gang ham style.

Harmless fun. Can't believe some people are calling kids sheep for wanting to go. You never joined in silly antics when you were a child?

I would rather drive my teenage daughter here to get a selfie than find out she was pissed on WKD in a park like I was at her age 😂😂

I think it's silly and fun. We need more of that right now.

I think the point is that it's a bit worrying that social media is influencing at such a scale, for people to apparently get off a plane from Australia, jump in a hire car and drive to bloody Coventry, for what sounds like a mediocre chippy.
It like mind control. If Tiktok can make people so motivated to do all that, so 'happy' for standing in front of a closed bloody chip shop what else does it have the power to do?

valerianaofficiana · 06/06/2022 09:14

One can't help but wonder whether the wildly spreading obesity amongst populace has anything to do with fucking Mega-Chippies being objects of national interest🧐

SpaceRock · 06/06/2022 09:16

Mind control 😂😂 what dramatics.

Very mature counter argument.

Hallyup89 · 06/06/2022 09:22

I watched a guy on YouTube review it. The queue was massive and he said most of it was crap food.

Go somewhere nicer.

SpaceRock · 06/06/2022 09:25

I'm not having an argument over kids visiting a chippy. You silly, silly goose.

Herejustforthisone · 06/06/2022 09:27

I work in the media, I’m not old, but hearing that a young girl was ‘so happy’ just standing outside a closed chip shop is utterly bleak.

Childish.

ReachersAbs · 06/06/2022 09:31

What’s the attraction? It looks shit

Herejustforthisone · 06/06/2022 09:32

Being so utterly influenced by a trend on social media, and being unable to exercise independent thinking and to stand back and look at it subjectively and see it for what it is (a closed chi shop that has jokingly got attention online) worries me.

AlisonDonut · 06/06/2022 09:34

No offence to my old mate Binbags or any of the lovely people in Binley or indeed Coventry but this is fucking hilarious.

The City of Culture marketing team could learn a thing or two that's for sure.

I'm going to be chuckling about this for weeks now.

swedex · 06/06/2022 09:38

Just lost ten minutes scrolling through tiktok videos about this chippy 😂
