Glo worms, my little pony, popples

If you were a child in the 80’s what were you favourite toys?

Which you are you still bitter about never receiving? I think Mr Frosty is the toy most adults are bitter about not getting 😂

I desperately wanted a glo worm and a Mr Frosty and never received either!

All of what you said aswell as Care Bears. My favourite game was snoopy tennis it was a little electronic game I played it for hours and hours. I always wanted a teddy Ruksin It was a story telling bear but never got one. Also I had a bath doll called swimming sue she swam in the water she was great !

I wanted a Mr Frosty. Dm said they were tatty rubbish, full of azodyes and wouldn't get one. I've half a feeling dsis bought herself one a few years back and her conclusion was the same as dm's Grin

Sylvanians, although they really came in too late for me to really play with for named toys, but the toy I got most out of was what I called a "floppy dolly"-it was a 6month baby sized doll with soft body. It flopped just like a really baby and wore my old baby clothes. Dd carried her round one year when we stayed with dm, when she was 3yo, and I had dd2 in the sling. I got told off by an older lady for allowing the toddler to carry my baby. Grin Dm stood there and giggled while i tried to explain!
I did have a baby cotton candy My little Pony and a bean bag, but on the whole we didn't have the fashionable toys.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 03/06/2022 14:56

Never had a Mr Frosty :(
Had My Little Ponies - I recall Lickety split and Posie. My favourite things were Sindy and Tiny Tears.

We were definitely a household where the big brand toys weren't a thing

I was desperate for a cabbage patch kid and a pound puppy and never got either

Toys were predominantly board games or arts and crafts

although my brother did get a scalextric hmmm

AutumnOrange · 03/06/2022 15:19

I always wanted a Speak and Spell too but never got one.
Had a Care Bear but no My Little Ponies. 😢
I had the 3 storey sindy house and car for Christmas which made me cry because I was so overwhelmed!
Pound Puppy! I had forgotten about them. Think they came with a letter and an adoption certificate?
cabbage patch dolls were ugly!
Remember garbage pail kids cards?

I had a speak and spell, that was cool. And my little pony as well. I remember getting a castle for the ponies one year for christmas, that was blooming amazing.
Oh and I remember having a pair of love birds with really long tails you could brush out.

mmmmmchocolate · 03/06/2022 15:26

I always wanted an al a carte kitchen. It was always “too expensive”. It was expensive to be fair but I probably would have had years of fun with it. My DH almost brought me one from eBay a few years ago but being almost 40 I have a real kitchen now that I can rarely be bothered to cook in 😂 so he didn’t bother.

80sMum · 03/06/2022 15:26

My DCs loved Fisher Price garage, Chatterphone, Philip Phone, View Master, Polly Pocket, Lego, Care Bears, Super Ted and many more.

AutumnOrange · 03/06/2022 15:32

I remember also being desperate for a pair of school shoes that the straps could be turned back to change them into slip ons. And they had an inch heel on them. But mum made me wear square toed sensible Clarke’s shoes 😂
I used to love Super Ted! And Bananaman. Never liked Danger Mouse though.
Always wanted to go on Why Don’t You and the programme with Grotbags (and I think Rod Hull and Emu?) Oh and Fun House with Pat Sharp!

I had a knock off speak and spell called word and write or something.

My friend had a glow worm and I thought it was a bit shit. She also (only child) had keepers which I would have loved but my mum thought ridiculous.

majorquimby · 03/06/2022 15:55

Don't forget Wuzzles!

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 03/06/2022 16:03

Don't forget Wuzzles

Or Worzle Gummage.

Always wanted a Mr Frosty and a soda stream. Wasn't allowed either.

I did have one of those head dolls where you could make the hair grow and put make up on them. That was until my DB decided to give her a haircut 💇‍♂️

PinkBuffalo · 03/06/2022 16:06

I still have my puffalump (well I not think he is proper one but his name has always been “puffy”)
he is very well worn now especially cos he was from a jumble sale anyway when I was young!
but he survived the washing machine this morning and is looking nice and clean again (well as much as he can lol)

PinkBuffalo · 03/06/2022 16:08

He looks very similar to this one even with the tuffy bit of hair made out of wool!

I desperately wanted one of those red and yellow little tykes ride in cars. Desperately. Never got one

GillyGumbo · 03/06/2022 16:25

I really wanted a Tiny Tears or a Cabbage Patch Kid but never got one. I DID get multiple hand-me-down Pippa's from my older stepsisters though (small posable dolls with long straight hair), and ultimately I had TWO Sindy's - one blonde and one brunette - with a plastic non-posable horse each. <preens>

I never got the horse trailer so I made one out of cardboard.

AutumnOrange · 03/06/2022 18:50

Tiny tears! I had one of those- loved making her cry in the bath 😂
Then I had a soft bodied (hard headed) baby that would cry or laugh - I got her when I was 7 instead of an Easter egg. She didn’t laugh when I put her in the bath. Never heard her laugh or cry again after that bath 😱
PP mentioned a Girls World - I had that! She had a small hole on the top of her head where more hair would come out of. I loved doing her make up.

Wanted a Mr Frosty and a Cadbury’s Daily Milk dispenser - but never got either.

However, one gift I did get that has gone down in the annals of family history was the year I got a Roger De Courcey Nookie Bear puppet complete with moving eyes. So happy on Christmas Day then, on Boxing Day, family visited and my cousin Roger played with him and broke him - I’m not bitter but did use to bring it up with him. He died from MND a week ago today at just 51 and it was one of my first memories of him xx

Bananalanacake · 03/06/2022 19:03

Loads, I loved Popples, Care Bears, Sweet Secrets, Sylvanian Families, Lego, Playmobil, My Little Pony, Flower Fairies. I met DH in a club for adults who collect one the above mentioned toys, I only had Dc so I could buy more toys😀

Rememberallball · 03/06/2022 19:04

But, I did have a Speak & Spell; a Little Professor (the maths version of Speak & Spell); a large Simon light up game and a mid 1980’s Pac-Man game that was yellow, round and sort of some shaped!!

Plump82 · 03/06/2022 19:10

I loved my speak n spell. Definitely my most used toy. I also loved my skip-it toy. My sister and I both had one and they're both still in my mum's garage. My neice plays with it.
I like many other's wanted a Mr Frosty and was desperate for Sylvanian Families, mainly for the hedgehog family. My friend had literally every family and the huge house and I was sooooo jealous.

Plump82 · 03/06/2022 19:12

And how could I forget Fashion Wheel! I'm keep seeing videos on Instagram of people using it and I'm getting the same jealousy I felt over the Sylvanian families when I was 9!

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 03/06/2022 19:16

PP mentioned a Girls World - I had that! She had a small hole on the top of her head where more hair would come out of. I loved doing her make up.

Yes that's the one

Mamette · 03/06/2022 19:24

I never got the horse trailer so I made one out of cardboard

I also did this. It was a sort of trailer/ caravan hybrid.

I never had a Mr Frosty, care bear (think they were a bit after my time anyway), cabbage patch kid, glo worm or any of those things. I had a few Sindys and a Barbie, and a Sindy horse.

A bit earlier perhaps but I also had a large yellow plastic boot that was also a house with windows and a little stairs that popped out, and had figures that lived inside- I think the old woman who lived in a shoe? And her many children.

Gliblet · 03/06/2022 19:30

I had a couple of Popples, some My Little Ponies and a makeup/hairstyling head thing, and I can still smell that cheap shitty bubblegum that came with Garbage Pail Kids stickers. I can remember being blisteringly jealous of friends who had the fashion wheel or a soda stream! Does anyone else remember Keypurs? I eventually got the snail shaped one from a car boot sale 😁
