Why does my mind go completely blank of all knowledge of subjects that come up on redactle? 😂

GrouchyKiwi · 16/06/2022 19:48

I learned a fair amount from this one today, not least that there is a spelling variation, but WHY is there a spelling variation?! Had to get DH to tell me how to spell it.

I solved today's Redactle (#71) in 77 guesses with an accuracy of 58.44%. Played at www.redactle.com/

That took a lot of letter counting and figuring out what various bits of the text might be.

I solved today's Redactle (#71) in 1 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

OperationRinka · 16/06/2022 20:17

30 which is fair enough given that I didn't know most of the phrases with those very distinctive patterns (I knew the individual segments but not the full concatenations).

24 guesses, 87.5% accuracy. Well pleased with that. :)

I ended up having to google yesterdays

Interesting I chose to force DH to try this one for himself to show him the formatting clues (he's normally restricted to giving me random words to try on his areas of expertise).

I said "so can you spot what sort of thing it is just by looking at it?" and he was baffled. So I looked at his large Android phone and it was much much harder than on my small iPhone. The formatting was much less helpful.

Better than the last couple, and would have been 36 if I could spell.

I solved today's Redactle (#71) in 271 guesses with an accuracy of 59.04%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Would have been 164 but for spelling variation which I was unaware of so had to Google. My current geographical location helped put me in the mood.

Grumpysister · 17/06/2022 08:46

Out of curiosity what was yesterday’s? The one with liquid in the title? I
forgot to come come back to it before it changed 🙄

Liquid-crystal display.
(Is it just me wondering why it has a hyphen when 'liquid crystal' doesn't?)

@Grumpysister it was Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

I wondered about the hyphen too - it’s liquid crystal display (no hyphen) in the Encyclopaedia Britannica but it varies in papers listed on Google Scholar.

Grumpysister · 17/06/2022 10:08

Thanks all - I was on over 300 guesses and really struggling so the puzzle change was probably a merciful release Grin

The formatting of words in the first para was a big clue.

Chemenger · 17/06/2022 12:26

I was put off by the hyphen in liquid crystal and it took me 41 tries to get from one spelling to the other yesterday for a total of 58.

beccahamlet · 17/06/2022 14:37

Can someone tell me about the letter counting thing please. I can't see how to know how many letters there are.
