Grazing tables

I've never actually seen one irl but on SM they seem to be all the rage for feeding largish social events.

They look pretty/impressive when newly laid out, but don't they look awful as soon as people have started digging in. Just a pile of messed up food?

There's something that feels off about the hygiene side too, but I guess no worse than any other buffet?

Have you seen one work in practice?

They are grim.

Echosound · 31/05/2022 07:39

I’ve only ever seen them on SM but my feelings on them are the same as yours op!

Fizbosshoes · 31/05/2022 07:40

I went to an event with grazing platters. They looked impressive but i was put off my something sweet tasting really garlicky because it had been next to some salami I think.

PersonaNonGarter · 31/05/2022 07:40

I have covid-19 caught at a buffet lunch.

don’t do it

motogirl · 31/05/2022 07:40

Same feelings here, nothing wrong with platters separating different foods!

I’ve had a couple of dessert ones and I know I probably wasn’t supposed too as it isn’t supposed to look like that but I separated all the desserts onto different plates.

The problem with the savoury ones is that they start going down hill really quickly, the sandwiches start to curl, the cheese starts sweating.

They are gross, but I really don't think you caught Covid from a sausage roll at a buffet.

Smartsub · 31/05/2022 07:55

Presumably if there was a buffet, it was a busy social event. I don't think the nature of the catering is the reason anyone caught covid.

They're very much style over substance and look a total dog’s dinner after the first few people have been at them.

Picked up by someone breathing on you, not from picking up a cracker.

Greatoutdoors · 31/05/2022 08:07

They do look pretty though, don’t they?

Smartsub · 31/05/2022 08:17

It's not the hygiene that bothers me, I can't see that they're much different to other buffets, it's the fact that they must look attractive for about 3 mins and then look like leftovers

They do look pretty in photos, but don't they look an absolute mess within minutes?

Grim.

Surely a nightmare if you have allergies
