"Give your cat to my friend"

Knifer · 30/05/2022 21:14

Basically, an in law has told DH they don't think we are cat people and that we don't treat our 5 year old cat well enough because we don't buy gourmet food and don't let her on our beds. Have said that we should rehome the cat and that we ought to consider giving our very much loved cat to their friend, who is looking for a cat the same breed as ours.

I literally can't get over how fucking cheeky that is!!

It’s a bit weird. Presumably you just said no way?

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/05/2022 21:33

But you buy her expensive medication and prescription food every month? Wink Wink

thenewduchessoflapland · 30/05/2022 21:38

If anyone told me to rehome either of my cats they would get it both barrels;they are part of my family and we love them very much.

Tell them to tell their cheapskate friend to buy their own cat;how rude is it to basically offer up your cat to their friend?

How utterly rude of them.

Your 'in law' is being a manipulative so and so and needs to back off......I would tell them to take a 'long walk off a short pier' but the choice is yours how you handle this.

How on earth can this induvidual expect to get away with insulting you and then conning/manipulating you at the same time is beyond me.

JennyForeigner · 30/05/2022 21:46

Tbf your in law sounds like they are an actual cat, being demanding, unreasonable, a bit hissy and having their claws out for you.

Nothing wrong with being a healthy family mog with a stable environment and hunting ground. Better than kidney disease from being force fed dreamies and obesity from sitting all day on a velvet cushion any day!

Longdistance · 30/05/2022 21:49

Tell your in laws that if they carry on you’ll rehome them instead!

Xmas1Xmas2Xmas3 · 30/05/2022 21:51

How very odd! Do tell them to bugger off!

Mellowyellow222 · 30/05/2022 21:57

Weird!

nocoolnamesleft · 30/05/2022 22:00

I suspect the cat put them up to it, to try to get you buying gourmet food, and allowing bed sleeping. If the next suggestion is smoked salmon, succulent juicy prawns, lightly poached chicken breast, and rare roast beef, then you'll know for sure that your cat is pulling the in law's strings.

BatDuck · 30/05/2022 22:04

@nocoolnamesleft 😂

Brilliant idea for a business. The demand from mumsnet alone would be immense!

Knifer · 30/05/2022 22:22

My husband told her absolutely no way are we getting rid of our cat and that she doesn't need the gourmet food in little gold trays or to be let all over the beds. She spends so much time hunting mice in the hayfield near us, but she comes back covered in all sorts of things that make me sneeze. I can't have her on the beds and I don't need to feed her "gently steamed meats and vegetables" for her to be a well loved and healthy pet.

The cheap ass friend can definitely buy her own cat! Ours is a silver Bengal, and apparently she's been watching shelters for ages to find one that looks like ours.

So why don't we just fork over ours, I guess? How selfish of us! 🤦🏼‍♀️

What on Earth? As a pet owner myself, I find this so so sad and horrible. What a nasty thing to say to someone. If the cat is healthy, happy and comfortable, he/she is fine!

SpeedofaSloth · 30/05/2022 22:34

Tell them to get stuffed, OP. Your a cat sounds like it's having a great life.

Bonjovispjs · 30/05/2022 22:47

I'd ignore them, I'm sure your cat will manage without the fancy food! I bought it once as a treat for my cat and there was peas and sweetcorn left in the bottom of the bowl when he'd finished eating😂

Oceanus · 30/05/2022 23:25

Oh you drive a red Ferrari! Wow, you know what red isn't really your colour, I think it clashes with your hair. I think you should give to my friend. My friend would rock that Ferrari of yours. You should give it away to my friend...
OP, your friend is a prick trying to please this other friend with your cat: eff off would be a suitable answer or here's a list of breeders, go and buy one.

you would be bankrupt. - there’s no resale value in unwanted in laws and they need a lot of upkeep in a shelter - newspapers, cake, beer, cardigans etc.

Stillfunny · 30/05/2022 23:46

Had to Google Silver Bengal. They are beautiful . No way should you give it away , especially as it your pet of 5 years. MIL friends doesn't seem very nice if she thinks a cat would not be upset by removing it from her home .

DeanStockwelll · 30/05/2022 23:48

I bet your in law has mentioned your cat to their friend, friend has said ooh lucky @Knifer . Inlaw has then promised your kitty to friend and has backed them self into a corner so is trying to guilt you into giving puss up.

Tell inlaw not a bloody chance as you don't think they will provide very fresh ( just caught) mousy breakfast, shrew lunch with a side of worms , and rat tea with a side of newt, all washed down with the very finest puddle waster .😃

DeanStockwelll · 30/05/2022 23:50

Ffs puddle water !

MarchingOnTogether · 31/05/2022 00:07

Bengal cats are worth a lot of money. Sounds like your inlaw wants to sell the cat on, if so that's majorly CF behaviour!

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2022 08:08

No way I’d have given my Bengal up. He wasn’t fed on gourmet either and managed to be healthy.

People like the look of them but aren’t prepared for the effort of looking after them. Someone tried to catnap ours, dh stopped her.

caringcarer · 31/05/2022 08:23

Tell them to buy their own cat

zafferana · 31/05/2022 08:27

OMG I just googled 'silver bengal cat' and they are gorgeous! Like little mini jaguars ❤❤❤

IncompleteSenten · 31/05/2022 08:27

Gourmet food 🙄
As long as it's grain free and not that rubbish filled that useless filler, whatever you're feeding is fine. You don't need that fake gourmet shit served on a silk pillow.

You need to tell them to fuck right off with that idea before they actually try to take your cat!
