"Give your cat to my friend"

Basically, an in law has told DH they don't think we are cat people and that we don't treat our 5 year old cat well enough because we don't buy gourmet food and don't let her on our beds. Have said that we should rehome the cat and that we ought to consider giving our very much loved cat to their friend, who is looking for a cat the same breed as ours.

I literally can't get over how fucking cheeky that is!!

Is it an expensive breed? Of course someone would be happy to take it off your hands if so. Cheeky fuckers.

My husband told her absolutely no way are we getting rid of our cat and that she doesn't need the gourmet food in little gold trays or to be let all over the beds. She spends so much time hunting mice in the hayfield near us, but she comes back covered in all sorts of things that make me sneeze. I can't have her on the beds and I don't need to feed her "gently steamed meats and vegetables" for her to be a well loved and healthy pet.

The cheap ass friend can definitely buy her own cat! Ours is a silver Bengal, and apparently she's been watching shelters for ages to find one that looks like ours.

So why don't we just fork over ours, I guess? How selfish of us! 🤦🏼‍♀️

If you let her out (which I support) I hope she's chipped, otherwise your MIL or her friend or someone else could take her!

Yes, she's a very expensive breed, chipped, gps tracker in collar, spayed, vaccinated. She's a bit of a free spirit in the summer and autumn months, spending loads of time stalking and hunting and sunbathing. She's a cat. There's a natural instinct to do this. She's fed on Orijen dry food in the warmer months, because I don't like leaving wet food out for flies to land on and lay eggs. And because she supplements her diet with plenty of mice and shrews!

It's DH's cousin who has said this, but they were brought up like siblings. She's a cheeky bitch, I don't need her opinions! She took one look around my house recently and declared "dust is my absolute nemesis, I don't know how you cope."

Fuck off.

I've just googled them-aren't they all gorgeous? Does yours have the "glitter"?

ChickenGotLegs · 31/05/2022 18:42

Lol does she realise how expensive Bengals are and there is a very slim chance she will find one in a shelter?

Cherrysoup · 31/05/2022 18:54

What an absolutely weird thing to say! I hope your Dh told her to dream on. Bizarre.
