Does anyone know how EVRI (Hermes) works?

I've had two parcels delivered from Vinted in the past 10 days to a collection point shop. I've had emails both times to say the parcel is there but in both cases the shopkeeper says the parcel is not there. I'm in limbo as the sender can't do anything, the tracking says it is at the shop so EVRI isn't interested but the shopkeeper says they are not there and is hinting that the person who delivers for EVRI is not reliable/trustworthy.

Does anyone know what triggers the email to say it's been delivered - is it the shop scanning the package when it arrives or the delivery person delivering it?

I really don't know what to do or who has liability and would really like the parcels.

You should have a tracking number, if not ask the seller for it as she will have it. You usually get an email when hermes get your parcel in the main depot, then another saying it's out for delivery. The courier will have scanned it on delivery to the shop. Get the tracking number which should also show you the gps location of where it was scanned by the courier

Houseplantmad · 24/05/2022 20:14

Thanks @Loobyloo68 this is what it shows i.e. that it's out for delivery, then there's a delay, then it's at the pick up point, all on the same day. It doesn't give any GPS information.

I need to establish who scanned it at the shop to activate the email to me that said it was there - courier or shopkeeper, as he was scanning items just received in yesterday to see if it was there from a big bag of parcels.

It says collected at the bottom of yo
ur screen shot. Weird.
Do you have the tracking number? If so go onto their website and type it in.

Loobyloo68 · 24/05/2022 20:23

The courier would have scanned it on delivery. The shopkeeper would scan it if it came in a sack of parcels from hermes itself bypassing the courier. You need the tracking number

Houseplantmad · 24/05/2022 20:27

@Loohave the tracking number as that's how I got this information. It doesn't say collected as that circle isn't filled in, it just says it's at the shop, and the shop says it is not.

This might sound a bit stupid. But are you going to the right shop? Not that I've had personal experience of course ...

BigDayToday · 24/05/2022 20:35

I've had this once or twice - the parcels weren't at the shop when I got the alert but were there a few days later. I assumed an error wih scanning.

If they never turn up Vinted should refund you eventually - I've had one lost parcel and they sorted it out (I believe the seller got their money too). So there should be no 'loss' to you in the end but it might take a while!

(This sounds like I've had a lot of problems but I've had hundreds of transactions through Vinted and used Hermes for years with very few issues. Although I gather the latter can depend a lot on the local couriers - mine are excellent.)

Houseplantmad · 24/05/2022 23:21

@Forestdweller11 yes, it's the only local collection point and I've used it many times before.

@BigDayToday good to know. I've had a message from Vinted re the first one saying if it doesn't get to me by 2.6 then I can have a refund but the other one there's no sign of it. So frustrating.

I would go back to the shop and ask them to do a manual / visual check for the parcels. Exactly the same thing happened to me at my local corner shop and he had no record of the parcel, but in fact it had been delivered to him. I asked him if he could just check through for my name and address in the parcels he had, and when he looked he found it.

amusedbush · 25/05/2022 00:10

I’ve only bought one thing from Vinted and the same thing happened to me. The shopkeeper insisted it wasn’t there and the next day, the parcel tracker had greyed out the ‘delivered to parcel shop’ line. Then it said my parcel had been collected from the same shop by a driver Confused

It arrived at the shop about three days later.

Houseplantmad · 25/05/2022 13:19

@amusedbush thanks, that's helpful. It's not great though, is it!

our local shop always says no parcel as cant be bothered to sift through them all..have to really persist...so dont use them now...!

thelittlestrhino · 25/05/2022 13:24

I think the general answer to how EVRI works is 'not very well' 🙄

I've had similar problems. Email to say it has been delivered but considering the shop was shut all day for a local holiday, funnily enough it wasn't there when I went to collect the next day it opened. I actively avoid any companies that use them; getting really frustrated when I filter ebay items that are delivered by RM but then I get an email or phone call from a courier company. I do NOT want my address and phone number given to random courier drivers, thanks.

NearlyHeadlessNick · 25/05/2022 13:29

I've had this scenario twice, via vinted. Both times, it said ready for collection, but the shop didn't have it. Both times, the shop hadn't scanned it in properly and it was 'found' a few days later (presumably when they scanned the next lot of arrivals). I had raised the issue with vinted, who basically said we cant look into it until X days have passed, speak to the shop.

Evri is rubbish, it's the same old terrible service under new branding. But it's cheap for the buyer.

Mrsjayy · 25/05/2022 13:30

I had to parcels go missing from mountain warehouse to a mountain warehouse store in December from Hermes it just vanished the shop said they never arrived I suspect drivers were just clicking delivered and dumping parcels! I did get a full refund. My local Hermes/ Evri driver is brilliant and I've always had it delivered fine to the house.

FragileConsequence · 25/05/2022 13:34

I find the problem is sometimes the shopkeeper. My local one is a very rundown corner shop. All the parcels are on a shelf anyone can access. You have to look for your own. I only go when I get the email to say it's there, but often when I get to the til to scan it out, the shopkeeper says it hasn't been scanned properly and rescans it (I get another email to say it's arrived). It would be very easy for anyone else to pick up my parcel as all you have to do to collect one is show ID. It doesn't have to be an ID that matches the parcel.

ColourHex · 25/05/2022 14:38

I work for a corner shop that does evri. The delivery driver scans each parcel at drop off, we then scan them ourselves (to put into our handheld thing) no idea which triggers the collection email I'm afraid.

Sometimes the handheld doesn't list the parcel as being there - I always check our cupboard in case, occasionally it's there anyway. Most of the time if it's not in the handheld but listed as delivered to our shop it turns up a couple of days later in another delivery.

I'd ask them to check if it's actually there, if it isn't wait a couple of days.

I hate them, it always goes wrong and we get angry people!

Houseplantmad · 25/05/2022 15:05

Thanks all. I won't be ordering anything that is delivered via Evri again. It's just not worth it. Still no sign but I'll keep trying.
I did get an email this morning about a parcel I picked up two weeks ago which clearly hasn't been registered as collected 🙄

Evri/Hermes work on the same model they always have. Courier is ONLY paid for delivered parcels on that day. So they'll mark stuff as delivered when they're not, then drop them off another day when they DO go past. You will just have to try the shop again a few times over the next week.

TuTuLemon · 25/05/2022 16:56

If it's anything like our local Evri courier, he scans the package to say it's been delivered and then it eventually turns up a couple of evenings later.

I have stopped buying from shops that use Evri/make it obvious it is Evri when you are checking out online.

TuTuLemon · 25/05/2022 16:56

The change in name has made a huge difference 🙄

TuTuLemon · 25/05/2022 16:59

Also I don't want it to sound like I'm blaming the courier, I assume it's probably Evri's fault as they plan in too many deliveries a day.

Houseplantmad · 25/05/2022 21:08

Update: I went in again tonight and asked the shopkeeper to go through every parcel he had. He was very grumpy but after 10 minutes the last parcel he looked at was mine. So that's 1/2 that has arrived. No. 2 looks likely to be classed as lost.
@TuTuLemon Me too - no more deliveries involving Evri.
