CCTV audio

I've got CCTV with audio.
But now I'm worried I'm not allowed audio?
But I thought you were? Cos the ring and blink cameras are audio aren't they?
But now I'm worried

Anyone?

Ico recommends disabling audio ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/domestic-cctv-systems-guidance-for-people-using-cctv/

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 21:03

Oh great I'm not sure I can disable it?

I don't understand
How am I supposed to get audio if someone came in my garden then?

(Yes this did happen once and no we don't have footage)

Do I have to take the cameras down?

I think you would need signage but also to ensure it is not intrusive ie. capturing conversation in ndn garden which is near impossible. Ask whoever supplied it how to disable it. Ring etc don't record audio iirc.

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 21:26

I wanted to record audio because I had someone come into my garden shouting something

So I don't understand how I would capture that if it happened again?

Do I have to take this camera down?
I'm not going to sit there watching live footage I just wanted it if something like the above ever happened again

Some are motion activated so would only record either video or audio when in range. The police may be able to give you advice on what you can and can't set up legally. What camera is it?

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 21:31

Hikvision I think.
Should I call 101?
I've wasted money haven't I

I wanted 24/7 to protect us as well as there's been so many malicious claims against us and if I've got continuous cover then it helps us too

OP posts:
Bearyhumcrack · 05/05/2022 21:37

Don't call 101. The rules are bound in article 8 of the ECHR, there's a lot online if you google. You wont have an issue unless someone complains then you'd probably be ok just to take it down/disable sound. Don't have it recording any more public space than is absolutely necessary or for any longer than is necessary. Signs are also a good idea and deterrent.

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 21:38

Really?
I'm so scared they'll try to get me

OP posts:
megletthesecond · 05/05/2022 21:40

Ring does record audio.
Mine got some lads walking past who noticed mine and muttered "oh, they have a ring".

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 21:44

I'm going to have to take it down and waste my money aren't i

OP posts:
LIZS · 05/05/2022 21:46

Not necessarily. But whoever supplied it should know the implications, how to amend the visual range so it is only your property in view and how to disable audio if needs be. Apparently you can disable audio recording on Ring.

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 21:48

It's only my property in view.

But i can't see any option to disable audio anywhere

OP posts:
LIZS · 05/05/2022 21:52

Is there definitely audio on it?

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 21:54

Yes

OP posts:
LIZS · 05/05/2022 21:55

Is there an app which rubs it where you can review settings?

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 22:00

Yes I can't see any option to disable audio
I don't think you can.
You can put it to mute so you don't have to listen to audio but I think it's still recording audio

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 22:01

Should I ring 101? I'm just so confused

OP posts:
LIZS · 05/05/2022 22:10

No not a 101 matter. Where did you buy it and who fitted it?

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 22:12

From a person who fits cctv

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 22:13

I'm just worried and not sure about what's allowed cos I thought you were allowed sound but then I doubted myself that's why I thought about 101

OP posts:
LIZS · 05/05/2022 22:14

Does that person not know? There are youtube videos for various models showing how to disable audio.

Batfurger · 05/05/2022 22:18

Instead of ranting on here, you could look it up. You're being incredibly dramatic about a very insignificant issue.

or are you a poster who just wants attention and not advice?

purpleme12 · 05/05/2022 22:23

@Batfurger wow hope that response makes you feel better
