@Igotjelly Just the 'it will all be over on May 9th' part. I don't know, just sounds a little sinister to me.

This is simply a reflection of the fact that most people expected Russia to come in and wipe the board with Ukraine, therefore a May 9th deadline for victory looked totally realistic.

katem98 · 03/05/2022 14:03

Yes, you're right @Igotjelly. I didn't know if this was a comment made by Putin recently or a while back, I think that's the bit that got me! Either way, his 'plan' is going brilliantlyHmm

My day's! BORIS really should practice what his speech writers prepare before delivering it to the nation. Referring announcement on BBC just now.

That's exactly what I said to dh. He should at least have had the respect to read through what had been written for him in advance of him reading it out HmmAngry

Think you re reading a bit to much into that tbh.

Many experts think there will be some sort announcement on the 9th May, probably over Mariupol & a land bridge to Crimea.

I mean what would be the point of celebrating "Victory Day" with nuclear annihilation.

YorkshireLondonMiss · 03/05/2022 14:26

@prettybird i can’t see as I’m on work! Was it what he said or just…terrible bumbling delivery?

katem98 · 03/05/2022 14:26

@Alexandra2001 I think you're right! I do have the tendency to read into things.

Itsssss noooootttt faiiiiiiirrrrrrr! I wassssss suppposeeed to win.

Those Ukrainian Nazis weren't supposed to fight back.

Wahhh wahhhhh.

I've got big nukes. Look how scary I am.

And I bet he shouts a bit about how nasty the UK is to try and win Macron's support cos he doesn't like Johnson.

Sounds about right. I don't know how Macron can bear to call him, unlucky time to have the EU Presidency and have to be the one to talk to him.

@Alexandra2001 I think you're right! I do have the tendency to read into things.

I think the thing to be mindful of is we are likely to see some posturing, potentially of the nuclear variety, in the run up and on the 9th. This will include the usual rolling the nukes through Moscow parade. But it’s anticipated and should be taken as posturing and not as a sign of imminent doom.

"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is asking for a ceasefire in Ukraine and is urging Kyiv and Moscow to engage in peace talks.
Modi, currently on a visit to Copenhagen to meet his Danish counterpart, says India wants "an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and for the adoption of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the problem".
India has been criticised for its neutral stance on the conflict."

BREAKING: The safe passage operation that left #Mariupol over the weekend has safely arrived in Zaporzhzhia. Our teams, working with AT UN
personnel, escorted +100 people who were able to leave the city and surrounding areas.

They made it

@YorkshireLondonMiss - it was just his usual bumbling that he thinks is an asset : stumbling over addressing Zelenskyy and then seeming to have trouble finding his place in the address, fumbling with the pages and not maintaining a flow.

Igotjelly · 03/05/2022 15:20

Anyone listened to Ukrainecast? I’m wanting to give it a listen but not if it’s alarmist crap like the last one.

YorkshireLondonMiss · 03/05/2022 15:45

@RedToothBrush we “must” stop supplying weapons 😂 I hope macron’s response was that he “must” not invade other countries. I’m waiting for the lightening fast response to boris announcing the next batch from us…

strawberriesarenot · 03/05/2022 16:18

I think we'd all love to stop supplying weapons, and it would happen no problem if Russia stopped invading and slaughtering and destroying.
And sent the kidnapped kids and families back.
And paid to re build.
And escorted Putin to The Hague.

Any thoughts …. ? just wishful thinking or is the pressure mounting within?

Was it is always going to be this way?

Russian inability or lack of desire to attack in the Donbas being remarked upon widely now. Seems that they conducted only artillery attacks for the last day or so. Otoh, the Russians are getting pushed back near Kharkiv.

And this is what seems to be odd. The pentagon briefing yesterday described the Russian effort to attack from the North of the Donbas (Izyum) in the most damning terms ‘anemic’ (see below). And yet said at the same time that the Russians don’t seem to be sending new forces.

Then stated that their hope was to restart their attacks from the south with troops just taken from Mariupol. So once again trying to restart a major offensive using troops already worn out by exhausting combat for weeks, such as the Kyiv troops sent to the Donbas.

If that’s what they are planning and they don’t have significant fresh reinforcements, hard to see any meaningful Russian success emerging.

The Russians have lost the ability to stage any major offensive, and are likely to be pushed back. So I think Putin might declare Russia's present gains a victory and will call for a ceasefire. He will then blame Ukraine for prolonging the war when it refuses to stop fighting.

Wouldnt be a surprise either...

RedToothBrush · 03/05/2022 17:19

Nick Reeves AT nickreeves9876
Russia's Western tools will then launch a frenzied demand that the West should press Ukraine to stop fighting by refusing to send any more weapons. They will loudly claim to be supporting peace, while in fact defending the gains of Putin's fascist aggression.

Probably.

John Sweeney, who I generally think is quite reliable, is also linking to stuff around this so maybe not too far left field. Sorry can’t link because my phone is being shit.

There's an easy solution: Russia needs to get the fuck out of the sovereign country it invaded and which it stated explicitly had no right to exist. Angry

India wants "an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and for the adoption of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the problem". Confused

The only "problem" is that Russia invaded Ukraine. The only "diplomacy" required is whether Russia should pay reparations.

Israel is preparing to supply Ukraine with defense weapons. Military support will include helmets for soldiers as well as the Iron Dome (!) anti-missile defense, according to the Israeli Haaretz reports. #RussiaUkraineWar It was really incredible fucking speech, Mr. Lavrov!

Donating the Iron Dome system?! wow
