Where the fuck is sandwich spread?

Sainsburys has been cleared out of coleslaw the last 2 times I’ve been so thought I could sub it with Heinz sandwich spread. I’ve not had it since I was about 12 but really fancy it now I’ve thought about it.
I traipsed all around the aisles but couldn’t find it and there was no one to ask so I left it but now really want some!
Where does it live? I would have thought next to the mayo/salad cream?

It’s near the spam and tinned meat/fish and pastes in our sainsburys, all the sandwich fillings together.

I quite like sandwich spread, but spam…why wasn’t that stuff scrapped after the Second World War? Can’t believe people still buy that gristle.

I’d agree it will be near the pickles.

I also want to defend the honour of sandwich spread, it’s bloody lovely. Cheap white bread, slightly too much butter and sandwich spread are an AMAZING combination.

Lightning020 · 25/04/2022 19:36

Personally I think it tastes utterly rank but I hope you find some lol.

MrsColinRobinson · 25/04/2022 19:37

Pretty sure I saw it above a freezer in Iceland recently.

Oooh I used to like a bit of sandwich spread, sadly a bit sugary for me now and the ingredients list is a bit of a horror story. You also get a piccalilli type version which uses the same tiny dice size, also delicious but horrendously sugary.

My gran gave me sandwich spread on rivita the other day. Not as bad as you'd think.
As PPs have said, near the pots of tuna paste and that sort of thing rather than by condiments. I frequently have to ask staff though.
Often they look blank, but I find if I describe it as looking like a jar of sick they usually know what I mean.

I work at tescos and in our shop it's by the Branston pickle and such

Neena86 · 25/04/2022 20:01

In the Sainsbury's I work at its with the jars of sandwich spread, spam, tinned pies etc. Possibly on a plinth (end of aisle).

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 25/04/2022 20:01

Yuk

Fedupsequin · 25/04/2022 20:02

B&M always have it-it was my post dd2 craving!

echt · 25/04/2022 20:11

It’s in the British section in Coles, along with Shippam’s paste, Tunnock’s teacakes, Batchelor’s mushy peas, and the tiny jars of My Mate (because for obscure reasons, Marmite isn’t readily available in Australia).

JaneJeffer · 25/04/2022 20:15

Baxter's do jars of slaw which you'll find next to the sandwich spread.

mizzo · 25/04/2022 20:18

Yeah I don’t get that one, and it’s not cheap either. Corned beef is another one, really not the cheap tin at the back of the cupboard staple it probably once was. Both equally horrible.

LemonDrizzleSlice · 25/04/2022 20:43

You could buy a cabbage, two carrots and some mayo, and make your own coleslaw. It gets better stored in the fridge for a day or two!

RedWreck · 25/04/2022 20:47

Yes B&M have it for £1.50. Very nearly bought some today!

HandlebarLadyTash · 25/04/2022 20:48

Nooooo, hopefully banned due to Btext.

Sodullincomparison · 25/04/2022 20:48

Next to the meat and fish pastes. This was my pregnancy craving aisle and not had it since!!!!

mrsrobin · 25/04/2022 20:52

LOL! I can never find it either - I have to ask every time! It is hidden away for the few of us that like it!

chisanunian · 25/04/2022 21:03

Crikey, I haven't had that stuff for donkeys' years. Didn't know they still made it.

SheilaWilde · 25/04/2022 21:03

I love Sandwich Spread and can never find it - I end up walking up and down aisles muttering 'ffs!' under my breath. Cucumber sandwich spread is soo much nicer but I think they stopped making it, it's less 'tart'. Slathered on thick shuck toast with loads of butter!

In fact I love it so much I posted about it twice.
