I solved Semantle #91 in 20 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.04. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #13. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 23.76 (193/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I luckily got there quickly with a logical sequence of words, just the more serious basic meaning of the word rather than getting bogged down its more trivial derived usages, one of which looks to dominate the high ranking words.

AuntieStella · 30/04/2022 08:15

I'm stuck, so will have to come back to it later.

It probably doesn't help that I've got 333 and 334, and I suspect that's quite an interference pattern for Brits!!

AuntieStella · 30/04/2022 08:21

Sorry, brain in neutral those were my guess number number! The word numbers were 791 and 752

InMySpareTime · 30/04/2022 08:24

@AuntieStella weirdly those two are totally different tracks to the target.

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 30/04/2022 08:37

Can see there being loads of different paths to this today

DoorLion · 30/04/2022 09:18

Took me ages to get a green (528) and once I did took me ages to get the right context of that word …

I’m officially TAIAOOG (titting about in an ocean of greens) today. I’ve googled the American things it might be related to and I’m baffled. Any hint to get me from these to the word before I lose my marbles? 😁

Didn’t love this one. I suspect if the database had been English articles the close words would have been very different.

Got the general theme but had to Google to get some terms as not something I’m familiar with.

HeadacheGrey · 30/04/2022 10:28

Same Bower I'm also TAIAOOG 😂
Highest are 969, 976, 992, 993. I know nothing about this.

Is the word unique to the American thing or a more general everyday word please?

BestIsWest · 30/04/2022 10:36

Thank goodness for DH and his knowledge of this thing.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2022 10:36

it is a general word but in this scenario it seems to be america related

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2022 10:37

actually ignore me, it could be used this way in the uk, i am ignorant though

BowerOfBramble · 30/04/2022 10:45

Got it! Thanks for hint @MrsLargeEmbodied ❤️

classic case of forgetting there can be two different opposite things

BowerOfBramble · 30/04/2022 10:49

It’s a general word. Honestly I wish I’d known as I wasted a lot of time reading.
you might hear it on the news at the moment in a couple of different contexts.

Lotsofpots · 30/04/2022 10:50

Are these going to get me anywhere? I just can't get higher.

Semantle 11
Doubleraspberry · 30/04/2022 10:52

I think the key thing with today’s word is that it IS used in the same way in the UK and US in one context, but probably more often in the US, whereas all the words you might expect to be green from other contexts of it aren’t really there, or aren’t very high.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2022 11:01

778 looks good

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2022 11:01
