Watching TOTP on BBC. Place your hands on by Reef. I have always thought it was Place your hands on my horn! It's bloody hope Blush

OP posts:
JimmyShoo · 23/04/2022 21:41

Could it be whole?

LetHimHaveIt · 23/04/2022 21:41

It's definitely 'hope'. It always sounded like 'hole' when sung, but the lead singer clarified at the time and on many, many occasions since, that it's 'hope'.

ShowerOfShite · 23/04/2022 21:43

I always thought it was whole

HighInPolyunsaturates · 23/04/2022 21:53

I always thought it was hole but in my innocence I thought he meant mouth hole (because that's a thing).

Buffalostance89 · 23/04/2022 22:08

It can’t be hole, surely 🤣

Ahh, ‘96, what a year, 18 years old without a care in the world.

medicmummm · 23/04/2022 22:13

place your hands on my hole 😮 😳

what was that suppose to mean?

Rainbowshit · 23/04/2022 22:29

Never thought it was anything other than hope.

ickky · 23/04/2022 22:57

Here he is singing it slower, definitely hope. I thought he was saying own.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/04/2022 22:59

winniesanderson · 23/04/2022 21:27

I thought it was 'own' like they were holding hands!

Me tooo

Wideawakeandconfused · 23/04/2022 23:01

I thought - and sing - place your hands on my heart!

GingerDuo · 23/04/2022 23:05

Deffo hope. Hole snigger

ChampagneJustBecause · 23/04/2022 23:20

Amazon Music shows the lyrics and they say hope !

Hole makes more sense tho !!

FredJonesPt2 · 23/04/2022 23:23

My DH and DS just saw them in concert and said they were amazing, and it's definitely hope.

Easilystartled · 23/04/2022 23:42

Maybe it’s place your hands on my hope, run your fingers through my soap. That rhymes.

BlankTimes · 23/04/2022 23:47

How I wrote ‘Place Your Hands’ by Reef’s Gary Stringer

"“Around that time we were actually on tour and my grandfather passed away. So we pulled the tour bus in to Dursley in Gloucestershire, which is where they were from. We pulled in for the night and I went to see my family. I came away and started thinking about the lyrics for Place Your Hands. When I hear the song I feel very uplifted. I’m really proud of the song and the lyric makes me feel happy, but really it’s reaching out for love."

I've always thought it was 'own' glad I found the story.💞

BlankTimes · 23/04/2022 23:50

I was sure I'd pasted this into my last post, better late than never

“‘Place your hands on my hope, run your fingers through my soul, the way that I feel right now, oh lord it may go.’ That verse is basically the overview of the song really, it’s reaching out at a time of sadness and you come away feeling happy, so I was really pleased with how it ended up"

Official answer, it's HOPE

Margotshypotheticaldog · 23/04/2022 23:51

I thought it was home?
I didnt really care that it made no sense as I shrieked along. I was already a permanently baffled confused teenager and nothing made sense to me anyway so it was just another mystery....

ArtVandalay · 24/04/2022 00:12

I’ve been singing ‘hole’ all these years.

But ‘hope’ is more poetic.

Chishnfips · 24/04/2022 00:15

It's your letters, it's your letters, it's your letters it's your leee-eeh-ters.

Dontlickthetrolley · 24/04/2022 00:20

Chishnfips · 24/04/2022 00:15

It's your letters, it's your letters, it's your letters it's your leee-eeh-ters.

😂😂 loved TGI!

Daisychainsandglitter · 24/04/2022 07:25

I thought it was hole too- it's certainly what I've been shouting the lyrics too all these years Blush
Good song though! Makes me feel v nostalgic!

DinosApple · 24/04/2022 07:47

Ah I love this thread, it's given me a proper giggle this morning with DH giving me the 🤨 face.

I was out last night but I'm going to watch TOTP on catch up later and feel like a teen again... And with the hole/hope debate settled we won't need to argue it infront of the DC.

strrawberriesandcream · 24/04/2022 07:49

Definitely hope. Not hole.

TimBoothseyes · 24/04/2022 08:05

It's definitely "hope". What isn't mentioned in the clip upthread is why it sounds like "hole". Gary tried to make "hope" more recognisable but due to his accent and voice it kept coming out as "hopahhh"(the "p" sound was too harsh). so he just sand it with a very quiet "p" at the end, thus sounding like "hole". Don't ask how I know this 😉

TimBoothseyes · 24/04/2022 08:05

Sang not sand.
