Hi my daughter has been awarded high rate care
I’m just wondering so universal credit backdate my payments from when my Daughters Dla was awarded as I can’t seem to find any informed on this I have left so many messages on my journal and no one is getting back to me I’ve also reported change in circumstances just when I spoke to DLA they said they should back date it from when they did and also she mentioned something about my rent element increasing

Hi, they do backdate from the day she is awarded, I ended up having to phone them to get it all logged properly as kept getting ignored on journal, they take their time with it just to warn you, it took almost 3 months for my to get the backdate

Lo12345 · 21/04/2022 17:16

@Ltb17 that’s what there doing with me just not getting back to me and then when I call them they say leave a note on your journal and I’ve left around 10! And still nothing oh seriously wonder why so long that’s good they backdate as I wasn’t sure if it was just tax credits that backdate it as I’ve heard if uc back date it they will only do it for a month

They try and say you informed them late so they can get away with backdating a month but as long as you have the proof on your journal they can't get away with it, you'll go through the process and then they will say oh because you informed us late it has to go to case manager to decide. They do the same with everyone. They usually reply to the journal messages after 3-5 days. It's a long annoying process but it's worth it in the end. Hope you get it sorted soon

@Ltb17 oh seriously so my daughter got her money backdated yesterday that was from the 02-02/2022 so will universal credit have to pay from that date I’ve put down I’m her carer anyway as I am yeah there a pain I’m always waiting for them to reply they have 24hr normally to reply so they say on the phone when you call but no one ever seems to message sometimes it’s took nearly 3 weeks to get one message back and when they say because no one told them well it takes up to 8 weeks to get a decision of DLA so you can only inform them when they say if you have been awarded it or not lol

OP posts:
Lo12345 · 21/04/2022 17:53

Also did you get the carers element backdated too ?

OP posts:
Ltb17 · 21/04/2022 18:19

Yeah exactly that, they expect you to inform them before dla have informed you lol. Yes they will backdate it from the day her dla was awarded from, the 2/2/22 and yes we had our carers element backdated too

Lo12345 · 21/04/2022 18:20

@Ltb17 lol it’s so strange how they expect you to do that when you don’t know 🤦🏻‍♀️ Okay thank you for helping x

OP posts:
MrsMingech · 21/04/2022 18:22

I think it only backdates it up to 3 months

MrsMingech · 21/04/2022 18:23

Oh ignore that, we were tax credits at the time. I don't know the rules for UC

dustandroses · 21/04/2022 18:24

Write in your journal that your DD was awarded HRC DLA from 2/2/22 and ask for the premium to be backdated to that date. Write that it is within the one month notification as the letter is dated 20/4/22 or whatever date it was. Do the same for the carers premium, you do not need to claim carers allowance.

make sure when you do the change of circumstances for them both you write 2/2/22 as the date of change.

dustandroses · 21/04/2022 18:28

If it’s in the journal you can keep referring back to it whereas you can’t prove a phone call. It sometimes takes a few weeks and it will be backdated to the assessment period which included 2/2/22.

dustandroses · 21/04/2022 18:30

Gosh I’m sorry I seem to have repeated everything that @Ltb17 said, the posts didn’t show up, must be a glitch.

Lo12345 · 21/04/2022 19:26

@dustandroses yeah I have been sending messages through my journal and not heard anything probably be Monday now I was unaware that they back date DLA from the day I actually receive the paper work I thought the backdate it from when they receive the form back 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I put the 21/02/2022 but then when DLA spoke to me I the re sent a message via my journal and said I got it wrong it was the 02/02/2022
but DLA said they have access to have a look what my daughter gets and when they backdated it from so confusing all this is lol
hopefully they will reply back to my messages soon but I have known it to take nearly 3 weeks to get one reply back 🤦🏻‍♀️

Lo12345 · 22/04/2022 10:30

So they’ve actually just got back to me and said it will be sent to a decision maker and they will update my UC when they’ve made a decision but not sure how long this will take

OP posts:
dustandroses · 22/04/2022 16:34

That’s normal and it takes as long as that particular person takes, so it could be a week or 3 weeks, just keep chasing. You will gate a notification for both elements that special circumstances apply. A letter to say how much they will pay. Just keep checking your bank as it’s paid in one payment.

Lo12345 · 27/04/2022 17:06

@Ltb17 I’m just wondering when you got your payments backdated did that effect your UC the following month as this is what I think may happen they said they are looking in to backdating Cares element and the child premium I think it is
but that’s for 3 months so I doubt I’ll get anything of UC the following month I’m also on maternity pay from government but I do get housing element I don’t know weather I should of claimed the caters element because it may mess my rent up now 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Ltb17 · 27/04/2022 17:42

@Lo12345 neither the award for dla, carers element or disabled child element has affected any of my other benefits, I think carers allowance does though

dustandroses · 27/04/2022 18:57

It won’t mess anything up unless you actually claim carers allowance, that causes a blip with the backdate. The arrears are paid in a lump sum separately in your bank it does not affect your monthly payment you just receive more every month.

Toritot1984 · 28/04/2022 07:30

I got 2 letters on my journal saying special circumstances apply with the elements but no mention of a payment will I get that separately does anyone know

Lo12345 · 28/04/2022 09:30

@Ltb17 okay thank you I’m thinking I should of done the careers part as that’s when people say it can mess your money up with it being backdated 3 months x
@Toritot1984 when did you do a change or circumstances? I don’t mine last Thursday and they said it’s with a decision maker I did put on my journal asking if they can backdate it from when my daughter was awarded DLA but they say it can take up too 4 weeks for me to hear anything

@dustandroses I put on my change circumstances that I’m caring for my daughter which I am but now I’m thinking maybe should of left the careers element 🤦🏻‍♀️ Hopefully they will get back to me next week at some point I don’t understand all this it’s so confusing lol

OP posts:
Toritot1984 · 28/04/2022 09:39

It was 18th march and the decision maker has said that special circumstances apply with the Kate reporting thing and my universal will be adjusted to add the elements on my next pay day but it doesn’t say anything about the backdated payments

Lo12345 · 28/04/2022 10:04

@Toritot1984 did you ask for it to be backdated in your journal ? I did as that’s what I got told to say put in your journal that you want it backdating from when you got your child’s DLA backdated from they will give it you

OP posts:
Toritot1984 · 28/04/2022 10:07

Yes I asked for it being backdated, I’ve left several messages on my journal asking someone to contact me about it and still heard nothing, when I rang yesterday I was told to wait for a reply on my journal that no one responds to

Lo12345 · 28/04/2022 10:11

@Toritot1984 I know it’s awful no one ever gets back to you once I was 3 weeks for a reply so now I said about 10 messages at once to get a reply it is disgusting though because soon as you send a journal it come up on there screen straight away

OP posts:
Toritot1984 · 28/04/2022 10:14

I know I must have sent about 30 messages since the 18th march and 3 have had replies and they were just asking why I was late at reporting the Dla even though I had only just found out myself
