997 in 43 guesses, my best start so far but how long will it take me to crack it?

@MsJuniper by 997 you're generally looking at different forms of the same root word. This holds true for today.

Weirdly every other form of that word I get "I don't know that word" so not sure if something is glitching!

That sounds glitchy, several forms of 997 are high greens.

997 isn't a different form of the answer.

999 is and there's one other in the full list, but not 997.

Is it possible we have different puzzles??

It's definitely glitching, clicking "see the nearest words" changes the order of the green words. I have 995 for example, and that word becomes 997 when I click nearest words. It still shows that I have 995 but calls it a different word that I never guessed

I currently get a completely different list if I press the button to look armt the nearest words on my answers. So I think it definitely is playing up!

A lot of I'd put one form of the word it then it didn't know other forms.
eg. (not one of the words) it knew "walk" but not "walked" or "walking". Reduced my score down though.

@MsJuniper if the words have jumbled into the order you might have them in now, you're looking for an officially sanctioned version of that 997.

Oh strange. So we don't know if we're helping or completely lying when we talk about the numbers.
I went on a different browser and one-shotted it just to see the list and 997 wasn't a different version of the answer there. And I tried entering related words and it said it didn't recognise them so I reckon MsJuniper has the same 997.

So weird, I got 998 and then when I press on whole list it changes 😳

It's definitely playing up for me too - I tried putting in some of the words mentioned above by a PP & it gave me green for one, & said it didn't recognise the others.

It took ages today, which isn't surprising when, for example, a word it told me was cold, is 997 in the nearest word list.

I wondered at one point if they'd tried to set it up so if you put in one word it worked for all of the related words (adding s/ed/ing/ation etc) and took the highest position of all of them. But then some words you could put in multiple versions.

However I think it would work better if you didn't have to put in multiple versions. On semantle you tend to find if (eg) walk is on the greens then walked/walking are also greens and you can use which is higher to work out what part of speech it's closest to. With clemantle sometimes you'll find one is high 900s and the other two are very cold, but that means that when you think of a word you have to try all derivations to be certain that is isn't helpful.

@Ricardothesnowman if your 997 shortens, do that, if it doesn't, the word is an officially sanctioned version of it.

It can't be shortened. What do you mean, officially sanctioned version? I can't get any versions to be recognised.

My 997 can't be shortened, but it is still not allowing me to try any of that word+suffix.
