Last year I went to a food festival and brought a few things in one of those olives and cheese stalls. I never picked up on the cost when I swiped and worried about it until I got home and it was £4 (just double checked my bank online) - gutted I never purchased more tbh !

The same festival today and the same stall - I got 3 scoops of different olives and they’re all weighed together - £36 !!!

Even with the cost of living increase - how on earth can 3 scoops of olives cost £36 ??

I feel quite faint to be honest Sad

What was the weight per kg?

TheGirlWhoLived · 16/04/2022 22:34

Bet they’re delicious though! No point in worrying now, just give them the love they deserve. Savour each salty, moreish bite. Don’t share. Don’t shove the last three in because they’re there.

@GrazingSheep

What was the weight per kg?
£3.60 … it was a hefty scoop

Name change fail?

Depends on the size of the scoop. If it's those big metal scoops which are the equivalent of a jar then I can definitely see how 3 scoops of organic fancy olives could come to over £30. It's £12 a jar. I've seen jars in shops for £10-£15.

It sounds like there was an error last year.

Moral of the story is to check the price and the weight before you buy.

Blossomtoes · 16/04/2022 22:38

Ten kilos of olives would last me the rest of my life!

PAFMO · 16/04/2022 22:40

Eh?
You bought almost 10kg of olives?

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 16/04/2022 22:40

You bought 10kg of Olives?! Confused

Bunnybingesoneggs · 16/04/2022 22:41

Once let the dc loose at a strawberry farm.
24 friggin quid.
And I couldn't even eat one as I am allergic!!
Ended up sharing them with all the dc at the campsite we were at!

Lockheart · 16/04/2022 22:41

I'm not sure if OP has suffered a namechange snafu, but yeah I'd expect 10kg of olives to be expensive!

Fedupsotired · 16/04/2022 22:41

I nearly got done by an olive stall at a festival. I said yes please and he filled a pot and wanted me to give him £20! I refused and said I only had a fiver and he tipped some out. Huge scam

DropYourSword · 16/04/2022 22:43

Hefty?! You bought 3 newborn babies worth of olives!

Horcruxe · 16/04/2022 22:43

But it was 3 scoops, how can that equal 10kg?

NoSquirrels · 16/04/2022 22:45

I never ever buy olives at food festivals. It’s always a rip-off, and I love a posh olive as much as the next foodie but I’m not made of money.

Still. £10kg of olives?

Lockheart · 16/04/2022 22:46

An olive stall is an inanimate object, it can't do you out of anything. If you can't see a price then ask for £5 worth at the beginning. The pot was £20. It's not a scam.
NoSquirrels · 16/04/2022 22:48

The most likely thing, if you bought a similar amount of them last year for £4, is that you should have paid £3.60 and they keyed in the wrong amount by putting the .0 in the wrong place.

But as you didn’t learn your lesson last year to check before you tap your card, third time’s a charm!

Fedupsotired · 16/04/2022 22:50

@Lockheart it really was- they were trying to give you olives, they refused to tell me the price and kept saying just a few more and then wanted my money! They were shocked when I stood up to them as I think most people were too embarrassed and played.

And sorry yes it's an inanimate object, the people owning the stall were trying to scam me🙄. I think most people knew that and you really didn't have to point it out! But if that makes you feel the bigger person then I'll give it to you 🤷🏼‍♀️

Anoisagusaris · 16/04/2022 22:51

You should only get a small amount of decent quality food for £4 so last year must have been an error.

Anoisagusaris · 16/04/2022 22:53

£3.60 is nothing for a kilo of olives!

IDontHaveAnOutingHobby · 16/04/2022 22:55

But olives are not £3.60 a kilo
£3.60 for 100 grammes is more likely

Blert · 16/04/2022 22:55

I can’t understand how a scoop could be 3.3kg?

hedgehogger1 · 16/04/2022 22:57

Olives are revolting :D misses point

IDontHaveAnOutingHobby · 16/04/2022 22:57

M&S big standard olives are £3.5@ for 160g

I've just been reading that thread suggesting there should be a separate middle class section in MN. This could be the first thread to go into it!

I want olives now. And more wine.
