Love songs that could have been written for you

Mine is Bruce Springsteen "Tougher than the Rest". Been with my chap 6 years. Objectively he's not a handsome Dan, a good looking Joe or a sweet talking Romeo. But he's the most solid man, not a toxic bone in his body. We met in middle age, he represents home.

John Legend - All of Me. We joke a lot about how it could have been written about us.

frugalkitty · 12/04/2022 21:04

A different kind of love, but Monsters by James Blunt about his father's terminal illness captures the experience perfectly.

abirranostalgia · 12/04/2022 21:08

Ah, @frugalkitty ❤️

I've never heard that song. My dad is terminally ill. James' face in that video.

Thank you x

I don’t think it’s a love song but Tiny Dancer.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/04/2022 21:09

Into My Arms by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

I am a Christian, DH is an atheist. The words are lovely.

abirranostalgia · 12/04/2022 21:12

@caulkheaded which of you is the driver on the magical mystery ride? Smile

The Smiths ... There is a light that never goes out

SlipperyLizard · 12/04/2022 21:17

Black by Pearl Jam? Teenage me certainly:

“I know some day you’ll have a beautiful life I know you’ll be a sun in somebody else’s sky but why, why, why can’t it be, oh can’t it be mine”

This Blue World, Elbow

This blue world and its countless sisters
And all that came before that day
Our atoms straining to a line
Was the universe in rehearsal for us?

When all the world is sucking on it's sleeve
You'll hear an urgent morse in the gentle rain
And if you plot your course on the windowpane
You'll see the coldest star in the arms of the oldest tree
You'll know to come to me

In the back of a broken car
When the blizzard blossom flew
Reading aloud with our fingers
What we both already knew

And the blizzard blossom flew
And the blizzard blossom flew

When all the world is sucking on it's sleeve
You'll hear an urgent morse in the gentle rain
And if you plot your course on the windowpane
You'll see the coldest star in the arms of the oldest tree
You'll know to come to me

A sober midnight wish flies over the rooves and down through the years
Hope that you and yours are sleeping
Safe and warm in size formation
While three chambers of my heart beat true and strong with love for another
The fourth, the fourth is yours forever

frugalkitty · 12/04/2022 21:29

Oh OP, it's so hard isn't it? Nothing prepares you for it and what my Dad has is so awful. Big hugs to you Flowers

abirranostalgia · 12/04/2022 21:46

And to you @frugalkitty x

It's funny because the men I trust, admire and love are all in the mould of my dad. He's the standard bearer.

I love the mix of songs everyone has posted. Love is complex eh

Shining Light by Ash.

abirranostalgia · 12/04/2022 22:59

Absolutely love Sense @PermanentTemporary. Love Ian's breathy voice. He's known familial tragedy and I think must have written about that

Not a love song but DNCE toothbrush song - m.youtube.com/watch?v=UrUJyKsLQeU

We were both awkward as each other and met at a bus stop in a Friday, continued texting over the following days and he came to visit on Tuesday evening but returned home with the plan he was taking the following day off work (a family business) to spend together and when he was on his way in, I sent him a message saying that I had a spare toothbrush if he wanted it 😉 we spent the following days/nights together and it's been 14 years now.

A new song. New relationship
'Wasn't expecting that' by Jamie Lawson. Such a sweet song. Could have been written for me and my guy.
Or at least, if it continues. Early days.
