Mine is Bruce Springsteen "Tougher than the Rest". Been with my chap 6 years. Objectively he's not a handsome Dan, a good looking Joe or a sweet talking Romeo. But he's the most solid man, not a toxic bone in his body. We met in middle age, he represents home.

Outing but Kacey Musgraves, Butterflies.

I met DH when I joined his team at my dream employer. I’d had a series of dead end jobs since graduating that had eroded all my confidence and previous ambition.

As my boss he spent time with me not just helping me deal with a life changing medical diagnosis but also telling me he believed in me and building my confidence and rediscovering all the drive and ambition that a tough few years had sucked out of me. We fell for each other in the process and got together when he moved to a different department.

5 years later we are married and he still believes in my every step. I’ve now been promoted 3 times and looking to have a really senior career and he still tells me that the possibilities for me are endless, looking after me when I push myself too hard and talking through all my big plans, all whilst managing his own career and continuing education.

I was just coastin', never really goin' anywhere
Caught up in a web
I was gettin' kind of used to stayin' there
And out of the blue
I fell for you
Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down
Stealin' my heart, 'stead of stealin' my crown
Untangled all the strings 'round my wings that were tied
I didn't know him and I didn't know me
Cloud nine was always out of reach
Now I remember what it feels like to fly
You give me butterflies.

I heard this song for the first time watching Kacey live when he was still my boss and as well as it being one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, as I listened to it I also knew he was the best man I’ll ever meet.

Faiths Song by Any Wadge, always makes me think of the true love of my life.

Ulelia · 16/04/2022 23:46

Train, Drive By. Not a great song, but sums us up!

Soulmate by Natasha Bedingfield

Never quite found the right one

The Chainsmokers, Something Just Like This. It was the final song at DH's funeral because I can still listen to it.

I can't listen to Christina Perri, 1000 Years because it means too much but I hope I can again one day. We had it to walk out to on our wedding day.

abirranostalgia and frugalkitty

I hope the way ahead for your dads will be as peaceful as possible.

I lost my dad to cancer 5 years ago and it was a swift and merciless illness, but we were fortunate that the pain relief for the most part managed to keep up with and stay ahead of the pain.

What I can share, and I hope this gives hope or comfort, is that when he passed, he had a beatific smile of peace on his face, not a natural muscles relaxed smile but genuine smile, and while I am not 'woo' in any way I really believe he passed with his family, his mum, waiting for him.

Song wise, I would absolutely claim Youth by Glass Animals _ my dc is having enormous issues at the moment and I had to stop myself having a big sob mid concert when this was played, it expresses what you want for your child, and what is missing for my dc at the moment and how having your mum by you, having belief that it can be alright. So, a love song, but a love song to your child

A few different ones.

She fell into my arms by Ed Hardcourt. “If you need to kiss me, then you’ll most definitely miss me when I’m gone”. Long distance relationship with DH (in our early days)

Take care by Beach House: “I’ll take care of you” which we always have done

Stylishkidintheriot · 17/04/2022 00:09

And for my son, I would say it’s “your song” by Elton John. “How wonderful life is, now you’re in the world”

Amybelle88 · 17/04/2022 00:13

Take on the world by you me at six.

Not a band I've ever really listened to, but the song came on the radio as we drove back from my first chemotherapy session 5 years ago and I cried like a baby. Made him listen to the words and he cried too. So much so, we have to have a stand in song because we get too emotional 😂 so also god only knows by the beach boys.

musicalmoney · 17/04/2022 00:17

Coldplay - The Scientist

"Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me"

Always the song that reminded us of each other, but I never realised just how painful those lyrics would be in the end 💔

Nat6999 · 17/04/2022 00:20

Amazed by Lonestar & Hero by Enrique Iglesias, both songs that meant everything to me & late dp, Hero was played at his funeral & I still have the video of him singing it at Kareoke.

Alanis Morisette Head over Feet

I had no choice but to hear you
You stated your case time and again
I thought about it
You treat me like I'm a princess
I'm not used to liking that
You ask how my day was
You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
Your love is thick and it swallowed me whole
You're so much braver than I gave you credit for
That's not lip service
You've already won me over in spite of me
And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
You are the bearer of unconditional things
You held your breath and the door for me
Thanks for your patience
You're the best listener that I've ever met
You're my best friend
Best friend with benefits
What took me so long?
I've never felt this healthy before
I've never wanted something rational
I am aware now
I am aware now
You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
You've already won me over in spite of me
And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault

and And so it goes by Billy Joel

I had been so so hurt by my exH that i didn’t think I could ever love again. But my lovely husband just made it so natural… by being himself. He was worth the risk i took… safest bet i ever made…

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along
I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense
And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you, soon, I suppose
But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break
And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

@Jules58

Faiths Song by Any Wadge, always makes me think of the true love of my life.
That song is heartbreaking and means a lot to me personally.

Also another Nick Cave song - The Ship Song:

Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around
Come loose your dogs upon me
And let your hair hang down
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you come around
We talk about it all night long
We define our moral ground
But when I crawl into your arms
Everything, it comes tumbling down
Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around
Your face has fallen sad now
For you know the time is nigh
When I must remove your wings
And you, you must try to fly
Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around
Come loose your dogs upon me
And let your hair hang down
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you come around
Come sail your ships around me (come sail your ships around me)
And burn your bridges down (and burn your bridges down)
We make a little history, baby (we make a little history, baby)
Every time you come around (every time you come around)

CailleachGranda · 17/04/2022 00:53

In my head it would be Elbow - Mirrorball

The reality is the Carpenters - Goodbye to Love

icanonlydosomuch · 17/04/2022 01:03

I'm showing my age here ...

Not a love song, but my ex said that Lisa Stanfield's "All Woman" reminded him of me.

The lyrics really aren't very flattering at the beginning although they appear to turn around towards the end!
