In how many countries have you had a McDonalds?
How did you rate the different countries offerings?

Loads. They were mostly the same, apart from Poland where DH got food poisoning from chicken wings.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/04/2022 19:01

I'm not sure exactly, somewhere between 5 and 10. Definitely Ireland, UK, US, Canada and Malaysia, possibly France, Australia and New Zealand. It was never my choice to go and it tasted EXACTLY the same everywhere. Kentucky Fried Chicken, on the other hand, is much better in Malaysia but still nowhere as good as the local food.

Badbadbunny · 09/04/2022 19:17

Probably about 20, the only country we never saw one was Israel.

US ones are definitely the best as they have different things on the menu, particularly a better choice of soft drinks and more pies (not just Apple). They also have the new releases of burgers sooner, and more options, i.e. you could get a double quarter pounder there years before they appeared on the menu in the UK.

squirrelnutkins1 · 09/04/2022 19:28

Ooh good thread. Probably 4. The milkshake in America was insane! It had whipped cream and a cherry on top! Italy is good too, they have like macarons and pastry bits as well, McCafe I think it is.

Georgeskitchen · 09/04/2022 19:28

U.S: good, inexpensive but always try to push you to buy far more than you can comfortably eat
Paris: Good , and they sell beer,
Spain: Fries excessively salty
Portugal: bread buns tasted funny
Hong Kong: 👍
Shanghai: 👍 they show you picture boards so can point to what you want
Holland, Germany, Dubai: comparable to UK 😃😃

Loads, never saw a McDonalds in Cape Verde Sal though!

TraceyLacey · 09/04/2022 19:32

I love the massive iced teas in USA.

Bagadverts · 09/04/2022 19:36

Just America and UK. The same except American it was bigger portion.

lostonadustyrock · 09/04/2022 19:43

Aaah, we were talking about this a couple of hours ago!

US: salty burgers
UK: tendency to be a bit soggy
Malta: Freshest and least over-salted
Spain: good for a beer. Quite satisfying.
Thailand: good for a local option (can't remember what they were though!)
Serbia: Fine IIRC

Probably loads more but I can't remember. So Malta wins for now, and in particular the one on the road to Naxxar!

BertieBotts · 09/04/2022 19:46

UK, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium.

Netherlands was the best - fancy sauces!

Others all pretty much the same.

Morph22010 · 09/04/2022 19:50

Gran Canaria, USA, Australia. USA were so slow serving, I had it in my mind they’d be super efficient. Australia they had a slice on beetroot in the burger

September29th · 09/04/2022 19:55

Barbados. Got terrible gut ache, never again.

BashfulClam · 09/04/2022 20:11

Majorca has amazing McDonalds so we always get one when we go. When we went to NYC we decided we needed to try an American McDonalds and it was pretty good.

LadyCatStark · 09/04/2022 20:15

U.K. obviously
USA: can’t remember anything remarkable about it.
Australia: had a much better ‘cafe’ type selection and ice drinks (makes sense since it’s so hot!)
Dubai: the burgers tasted much better than the U.K. but probably because they were full of crap.
France: slow and expensive.
Saudi Arabia: had an awesome soft play in the days before soft play (I lived there as a child).

Silverclocks · 09/04/2022 20:17

Actually, only here and in the US and that was decades ago when they were few and far between in UK, so it felt like going native Grin

CottonSock · 09/04/2022 20:18

Spain and Portugal you can order a beer. I can't see that working in the UK.

Manzana · 09/04/2022 20:24

only UK & France, French one sold beer and full salads, though this was 20 years ago so may have changed

CloseYourMouthLynn · 09/04/2022 20:27

Best one I had was in Berlin, so fresh and well made!

runsmidgeOMG · 09/04/2022 20:29

UK, ROI, France, Italy and The Philippines.
They have rice as a side option in the Philippines and honestly it kinda worked ! 👌🏻

canyon2000 · 09/04/2022 20:31

Apple pies in New York Maccy D's had weird cardboardy pastry not the yummy, crispy deep fried ones here in the UK.

chipsandpeas · 09/04/2022 20:32

ive had mcdonalds in most countries ive been in
had a greek big mac once in cyprus, was pretty good was weird in a way as it was in a pita bread rather than a bun

Kite22 · 09/04/2022 20:38

Loads....I went inter railing about 35 years ago Grin

tbh, I don't think there was any difference particularly. Isn't that the point ? You know what you are getting. It is comfortable when you are in a strange land and don't understand the language.

mumofEandE · 09/04/2022 20:44

Russia (90s) Not many Vegetarian options - the McDonald's had an apple pie but instead of apple .... mash!

Nelia5 · 09/04/2022 20:49

Germany, they have a McRib burger and sell beer

Mackmama · 09/04/2022 21:01

@lostonadustyrock in Malta, was it the one on Buggiba sea front? Amazing location, right on the sea.

I’ve not been to loads of countries but the best McDonald’s I ever had was in Venice. We were on a school trip staying in a crap hotel where the food was pretty awful. We were given free time in the centre of Venice where we were meant to be seeing the sights but nearly everyone was just in McDonalds, it tasted amazing!
