Where’s a good place to rent in Manchester for early twenties?

My niece will be working between the Christie and St Marys and two of them are looking. I’m shocked it’s London prices. They’ve just graduated so don’t want anywhere that’s too studenty but still with a social life. It’s along time since I’ve lived in Manchester infact, the Hacienda was the place to be and I suspect that’s long gone 😀 what area would you say is lively good value and about 30 mins commute either way? Thanks!! Would she be better sharing with more than one person?

Budget?
Driving or public transport?

Would Salford be any cheaper? About 30 mins driving, bit longer by tram.

Public transport and first job. I’m guessing £1000 between two. 12 hour shifts including nights so the less travel the better. It has to be a social area without being all night parties. It’s so sad to say goodbye to those student days isn’t it?

I'm guessing your niece is young if it's her first job. To be honest if I was her I would flat share between a few to save money in this climate.

Can't advise on areas in Manchester sorry. Love the city though.

I think the trouble is she’s done the sharing with 4/5 all through uni. I think she’s hoping if it’s just two people the place will be tidier etc.

Withington or Fallowfield perhaps.

Fallowfield is very studenty though.

Sorry scrap that it’s a one bed, but that’s the type of thing I’d think would be achievable, ie nice and modern, if that’s what they fancy.

Didsbury! Especially the area around Burton road.
Loads of young professionals, very trendy and can walk to the Christie / get the bus very very easily
To St Marys from palatine road.

Chorlton?
Could look around the Christie too - very residential.

I’ve been treated at the Christie. Lovely staff.

Most in that bracket probably rent in Chorlton. Cheaper alternative could be Levenshulme (I would stay at the Heatons end rather than the Longsight end). Didsbury and the Heatons are also nice and probably the better bet for commuting- especially to The Christie!- but are slightly more- young family/ late 20s but all three have nice pubs and bars and cafes.

The Northern Quarter. Loads of fun places for drinks and food, quirky shops. 40 mins flat walk to work.

My DD shares a flat in Ancoats with 2 friends, they pay £1500pcm. They struggled to find anything cheaper in the city centre than that.

URMSTON nice area, good transport links too. Lots of places to eat & socialise.

At that age, I'd choose Chorlton for sure but I'm biased as I lived there in my carefree years. Lots of 20somethings live in the Northern Quarter too, that would have better night transport if she is on shifts though

Dry Bar was still there last time I went! (Not long ago). I would go for Chorlton. I lived there in my early 20s in a house share and loved it

NQ, Didsbury, Chorlton.
Definitely not London prices, you can get a whole flat for the same rent unless you want a luxury flat Hmm

She could also consider Sale, Altrincham etc these are more ‘family’ areas but within easy commute. You can get a 2-bed within walking distance of station for £800

Monton (outer Salford) - the high street is full of restaurants and bars. There is lots of greenery around and fast links into Manchester.

Chorlton in your 20s is loads of fun. And the right side of town.
Salford’s also a good shout but the opposite direction
