Child’s first passport

Can anyone who has applied for a child’s first passport recently tell me how long it took for you to get it from application stage?

I have 10 weeks and 1 day from when I applied to when we are due to go so I’m sure it will be fine but people have been telling me horror stories so I’m now worried and anxious it won’t come in time! Sad

About 4 weeks, sent 19th feb, back 15th March.

GoodnightJude1 · 05/04/2022 16:07

My DD sent her DD application off for a first passport in early January….she finally received it yesterday. After they’d missed their holiday.
I don’t think with a child’s first passport there is an ‘average length of time’ as her friends DS first passport took 5 weeks from start to finish 🤷‍♀️

CaveMum · 05/04/2022 16:10

Still waiting for ours to come back.

Submitted online 20th March
Picture ID verified 23rd March
Birth certs sent 25th March
Birth certs received at Passport Office 26th March
Heard nothing since!

DH and I renewed our passports at the same time and his new one has arrived today.

Tiredmamaaa · 05/04/2022 20:07

A few good stories here then! Fingers crossed it’s the 5 weeks they say and then I won’t need to stress 🙈

Application submitted 26th February, received the passport today. And there was an issue with the witness so that had to be done twice.

BaybeeTammy · 05/04/2022 21:22

When I did my children's last week it now says on gov website upto 10 weeks which would not be good as we were hoping to go away may half term but haven't booked anything as that would be stupid!

I sent 3 ID including for a first passport via recorded delivery and I only got confirmation on the online passport tracing page of one being accepted and I just checked this evening and that application is approved and the passport is being printed. That was a child renewal.

The other child renewal and child first I got confirmation via royal mail of the ID being delivered same day as other ID but no updates on the online portal at all yet, its still saying send in your ID!!! Eugh!

Family member recently got a first child passport in 3 weeks

Tiredmamaaa · 05/04/2022 22:15

It just seems like such a mixed bag, particularly when you have sent 3 sets of documents at the same time and only one has been updated!

They received my documents too but it’s still saying send them in but hoping this updates soon!

Fingers crossed for us all that it’s 3-5 weeks like most people are seeing 🤞🏻

Has anyone had their child’s passport yet that were waiting? Seeing more worrying things in the news and it’s making me anxious! Confused

Still no sign of ours, though we did finally get an acknowledgement of ID documents received, 12 days after they were delivered!

Surgarblossom · 11/04/2022 11:40

I sent my DS application on the 11/11/2021 and received his passport on 07/12/2021. So approx 4 weeks...A couple of days later I received another passport for the same house number and road but in a different town!

Imagineit · 11/04/2022 11:43

5 weeks, and that included having to send off another document for it that they requested

Sunshinexx95 · 13/04/2022 18:59

@CaveMum
I submitted my application on the 17/2/22
But their was delays with conforming identity till 11th of March and sent the documents on the 15th of March.
They received my documents on the 29th of March.
We are going on holiday on the 29th of April which I think has to be cancelled now. Super sad because it is our first holiday in 4 years.

I have been trying to call them and to get the application upgraded but no luck.

NatMoz · 13/04/2022 19:04

Completed online form 27/02, sent off birth certificate 28/02, received passport in the post 30/03 so about 4 weeks

TakeYourFinalPosition · 13/04/2022 19:05

I applied 7th March and got it back last week.

Sunshinexx95 · 13/04/2022 19:10

@TakeYourFinalPosition
I'm sorry can I ask you about the processing time? 🙏
They received my documents on the 29th of March. Just wondering how long it took from receiving documents to approval? 🙏

FloatingAlien · 13/04/2022 20:53

For us - documents were received 4th April
Application approved 7th April
Passport printed 12th April

I think a lot depends on where you need to send your documents to, some offices seem to have much longer waiting times than others.

Hohumfeelingglum · 13/04/2022 20:59

Started our application early march and just received confirmation it's been accepted and waiting for it to be printed. It's so slow!

ForgedInFire · 13/04/2022 21:00

4 weeks for us. Application sent in 10th February

sjxoxo · 13/04/2022 21:06

Also in process of doing baby boys’ first passport:
I applied 25 March
Sent docs start of April
..no news yet. I’m worried as no idea if they received docs or not.. please god I hope so. What a farce if they’re lost.. also I’m currently in France with a baby who has no passport 🤣😐

Tiredmamaaa · 13/04/2022 21:53

Fingers crossed everyone gets theirs in time 🤞🏻 If it helps, I sent my docs and they were received on the 4th April (according to royal mails tracked delivery) and they updated my tracker today to say they had received them so hopefully won’t be long until yours are marked as received 😄

@Tiredmamaaa any updates ?
Mine is still on document received 😥

Tiredmamaaa · 16/04/2022 00:38

Mines is the same, still at documents received. Im thinking with the bank holiday we will be a bit delayed in getting to the next stage 😔

I applied for my son’s first passport on 1st March. They requested additional documents on 24th March which I sent special delivery that day. Zero updates from that point until Thursday 14th April when I finally received a text to say the passport has been approved (hooray!).

We fly on 3rd May so I am very hopeful we’ll receive it in time. The last few weeks have been extremely stressful !!

I spoke to someone really helpful on Thursday who told me they can now upgrade your application to fast track if you’re within 14 days of a travel booking. Hope that helps!

Tiredmamaaa · 16/04/2022 07:52

That’s really helpful thank you! Good to know there is an option if we need it to fast track 😊 thank you! Xx
