April Fools jokes for kids?

Anyone got any good ideas for an April fools joke I can play on my son tomorrow? Fun suggestions only please - I don't want to upset him by pretending I've eaten all of his sweets or anything like that. He's 6.
Does anyone else do this too?

Give him scoop vanilla ice cream with raspberry sauce on top for his bfast but actually its a scoop of mash with tomato sauce.
Pile some toilet rolls on top of the door so it falls on his head.
Put some thing spikey in his slippers

PAFMO · 31/03/2022 11:54

No.
As pp has shown, they are pathetic and deeply unpleasant.

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 31/03/2022 11:54

Mine were teenagers when I started April Fool but you could try these.
I put blue food colouring in a pint of milk and told them it was blue whale milk. Look of disgust on their faces when I drank it Grin
Made orange jelly in a glass and gave it to them at breakfast telling them it was orange juice. Total confusion as they tipped the glass and nothing came out. Even better if you put a straw in first and they try to suck up the juice!
Gave one a cake tin telling them there were brownies inside. They opened it to find the letter E cut out of cardboard (brown Es) I had to have some real brownies to hand to avoid disappointment.

No

Get your kids to April fool their Dad instead?

We had great hilarity with my DH genuinely panicked when the told him there was a 'leek' in the kitchen sink - he rushed out the shower in some haste Grin

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 31/03/2022 12:02

I have no ideas but DD asked me this morning if we could start doing April fools so am placemarking to steal ideas! Needs to be very mild. I like the idea of orange juice jelly.

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2022 12:11

I'm probably a boring old fart but never started it as I think it can be cruel and unpleasant.

The best April fools jokes are in the adult! Really silly ones like this.
Sconeface · 31/03/2022 13:05

Get him to draw a capital B on a piece of paper. Then call Dad, "Dad, quick, there's a big bee in the kitchen!" ....my DD did this one last year and just reminded me today that she is going to do it again tomorrowSmile

AdaColeman · 31/03/2022 13:13

Get some stick on googly eyes, and stick them on some of their breakfast or packed lunch items.

ImFree2doasiwant · 31/03/2022 13:24

I lovethe big B idea

They can be - but things like the orange jelly instead of orange juice, or a leak/leek in the bathroom I think are just a bit of fun.

I do hate when people put videos on SM of their kids getting really upset by some “hilarious” prank.

katiejemima · 31/03/2022 13:34

I don't like them either...Confused

Garfieldismyspiritanimal · 31/03/2022 13:38

We put some cereal, milk and a spoon in the freezer overnight. Put it in front of one of the kids at breakfast. They were six, found it hilarious and at 12 now still remind me of it every year

ChickenSkinny · 31/03/2022 13:38

I think the trick is to make them something nice. I made fake boiled eggs once by blowing an egg, then filling it with ice cream and orange curd.

ChickenSkinny · 31/03/2022 13:39

Or run in and say the lavatory has started smoking…

We did it the last couple of years due to boredom in lockdown etc. My daughter has a toy leek in her play kitchen. I put it in the bath and got my son to hysterically yell down the stairs ‘daddy come quick, there’s a leak in the bathroom!’ The kids loved it. So that was a prank on my husband. We played one on the kids - turned the kitchen table over plus two armchairs we have in the kitchen then pretended to be oblivious to what was going on. The kids were jumping up and down trying to make us see what was wrong with the kitchen table and getting more and more insistent. It was funny! They also played one on me with my husbands help - stuffed my shoes with newspaper so when I went to put them on I couldn’t, they also tied the laces together. I put on a big performance of trying to get my foot in the shoe. So all round it was a bit of fun and we hammed it up for the kids. They still talk about the pranks now!

Hugasauras · 31/03/2022 13:48

Milk responds well to food colouring! I remember when I was a kid, my mum pouring out pink milk Grin

ChickenSkinny · 31/03/2022 14:00

Swap the cereal bags so cheerios come out of the shreddies box.

AutumnOrange · 31/03/2022 14:10

I love the leek/leak joke - so do my kids.
I have cut out some letter E’s and coloured them in brown - will ask the kids in the morning if they want a brownie/brown E - they will love it! Not all April fools jokes have to be harmful or humiliating. No doubt my 7 yr old will try one on me and I will pretend to fall for it and everybody will laugh!

FelicityPike · 31/03/2022 14:12

Pour their cereal, put the spoon in and freeze it.

Repetitivebeats · 31/03/2022 14:15

DS and I did that for DP last year - went round the kitchen and stuck googly eyes EVERYTHING. It was a giggle doing it and made DP laugh when he went to make breakfast.
oldwhyno · 31/03/2022 14:27

Some great, and perfectly innocuous ideas here, thanks.

April fool jokes are only cruel and unpleasant if you're cruel and unpleasant.

dipdye · 31/03/2022 14:57

Might do the leek thing

MasFina · 31/03/2022 15:18

Love the smoking loo!
