I have a childhood memory of someone on TV (possibly Lenny Henry on Tiswas) doing a sketch where he would say
"Ok" for as long as possible.
I mentioned it to a colleague today who is a similar age to me and he had no recollection of it.
Also, Google searches have proved fruitless.
Is this some sort of false memory?
It's annoying me 😂😂

It’s def Lenny Henry on Tiswas. 😂😂

Clawdy · 17/03/2022 19:50

Yes, definitely Lenny Henry. It's probably on YouTube.

FreddieDeLaHay · 17/03/2022 19:51

Thank you, I tried YouTube- I'll have another look!

It's his character Algernon Razzmatazz!

Billybagpuss · 17/03/2022 19:59

I couldn’t find it either

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 17/03/2022 20:01

I don't remember this but I do still say 'oooh I could crush a grape' like that guy Stu from Crackerjack.

SaySomethingMan · 17/03/2022 20:03

I’d never heard of it but it’s the first thing that popped up when I did a search on YouTube. Boy , am I glad that’s not on tv now! I’d hate to see what. It was fit for the time, I suppose.

moonfacebaby · 17/03/2022 20:04

Yep, it was Tiswas....I loved it. Phantom Flan Flinger, Houdi Elbow, Compost Corner. It was utter bedlam and brilliant fun

alwaysneedanap · 17/03/2022 20:05

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant

I don't remember this but I do still say 'oooh I could crush a grape' like that guy Stu from Crackerjack.
my (older) partner says this a lot, and I always thought wtf are you on about :):)
Infinitemoon · 17/03/2022 20:06

Yes I remember it well. Smile

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 17/03/2022 20:08

I remember. Pretty sure it was Tiswas. Loved his David Bellamy "grapple my grapenuts" 🤣

TwoIsQuiteEnoughThankYou · 17/03/2022 20:15

I'm sure you're right and it is Lenny Henry, but not on Tiswas (I don't think). Maybe the Lenny Henry Show, or Three of a Kind (was Lenny on that??). He was playing an elderly Rasta type. Might have been the same guy who used to say "Sit down, sit down...drink...smooooooke".
Well that's what I remember anyway.

HelenWick · 17/03/2022 20:18

Condensed milk sandwich anyone?

FreddieDeLaHay · 17/03/2022 21:03

The first result on YouTube isn't quite right.
I watched the song through and he doesn't say it for ling enough 😂
It's like he's using all his breath and says it in a deep voice.

I do feel better that other people remember though and it's not a false memory

Yes! This happened!

I am 99% sure Lenny Henry released a single called OOOOOKAAAY while he was on Tiswas as well.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/03/2022 21:06

Not what you're asking but I give you Mike Reid

Run-a-round Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Grin

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 17/03/2022 21:21

m.youtube.com/watch?v=W9HP7ME70Xg

Here he is, but not a super-elongated ooookaaaay.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 17/03/2022 22:12

I remember it! I knew exactly what you meant by your title! It really did happen. 😀

Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2022 22:15

We were not allowed to watch Tiswas Sad, ITV was banned in our house. We were allowed to watch Swap Shop and if we thought our parents couldn't see we'd switch it over.
I remember the FFF, and LH saying oooooookaaay! Also there seemed to be a lot of children in cages getting gunged?

Infinitemoon · 17/03/2022 22:33

Yes me too. I don't remember it being on a programme for children.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/03/2022 22:43

Three of a Kind (was Lenny on that??)*

Yes with Tracey Ullman and David Copperfield (comedian not the magician)

ChaosTrulyReigns · 17/03/2022 22:47

Came in to say I wasn't allowed to watch ITV, and it appears I wasn't alone - SparklingB also had similar parents! Shock

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/03/2022 23:13

Ha!

We were allowed to watch Blue Peter but not Magpie
Definately not Tiswas
Saturday Swap Shop (though it was on for 3 hours , my Mum always vacuumed the living room while it was on ...Well we can't have the kids enjoying themselves can we ? Hmm )

I always missed Why Don't You .

spiderlight · 17/03/2022 23:18

It was definitely Lenny Henry but I didn't watch Tiswas so I think he must have done it on his evening sketch shows as well.
