Semantle 4

Semantle thread 3 is almost full and we don't seem to be running out of steam, so here's a nice new shiny thread for those, like me, who are mad enough to start the new game at Midnight.

The game of Semantle can be found by folowing this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now our previous thread is here. We tend to use the threads to rant about how we're getting nowhere, celebrate our successes and laugh about the previous day's top 1000 but please, no spoilers. Subtle hints only here; use DMs for more obvious clues.

Enjoy, and forget about the News, the housework and the rest of your life for a while!

Ack, sorry @Drawerofcrap, accidentally PM-ed you twice. I'm just on fire today... Blush

Spudlet · 15/03/2022 12:03

Also PM-ed you @HadEnoughOfBears (just the once. I think...)

Stuck at 918 without a tangent. Any hints?

JaneJeffer · 15/03/2022 12:30

I just want to know if 876 has anything to do with the answer or should I try something else?

MrsElm · 15/03/2022 12:32

I can't see a connection at all, sorry 😐
JaneJeffer · 15/03/2022 12:32

Aargh!! Thanks @MrsElm

InMySpareTime · 15/03/2022 12:33

If you point an 876 down, what would you end up doing?

Heronatemygoldfish · 15/03/2022 12:33

Made it at 76 guesses. I really should think simpler.

JaneJeffer I'd say no...

InMySpareTime · 15/03/2022 12:35

@SouperNoodle it's more about what the thing you put inside it looks like.

squirrelnutkins1 · 15/03/2022 12:38

@HadEnoughOfBears they are a thing everywhere 😂

LividLaVidaLoca · 15/03/2022 12:42

I solved Semantle #45 in 59 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 8.71. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #22. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 47.58 (999/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Looking at the list, it seems I got incredibly lucky with my tangent. Not a clue what half those words mean!

BabbleBee · 15/03/2022 12:48

Trying to work out hints when I don’t have that particular number word is amusing

Heronatemygoldfish · 15/03/2022 12:50

I have no clue how the heck half of the words are related, btw. I got it via 939, 895, 882 and 711, all of which are more obvious.

BabbleBee · 15/03/2022 12:56

I’ve gone from 882 to 995 and no progress since

VikingNorthUtsire · 15/03/2022 12:58

Two greens so far which seem completely unrelated to one another!

TakeMeToYourLiar · 15/03/2022 12:58

Can I have a hint please

InMySpareTime · 15/03/2022 12:59

@BabbleBee a good clue makes no sense unless you have the number. I was especially proud of my toes clue the other day.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 15/03/2022 13:01

@TakeMeToYourLiar

Can I have a hint please
My highest are 622 and 538
InMySpareTime · 15/03/2022 13:09

@TakeMeToYourLiar what's 538's footprint?

BabbleBee · 15/03/2022 13:10

I know but the randomness is making me laugh at myself!

Thank you so much! Got it in one with this clue 😁

BabbleBee · 15/03/2022 13:19

Honestly…. Really?!

I solved Semantle #45 in 71 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 8.34. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #37. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 16.08. semantle.novalis.org/

JaneJeffer · 15/03/2022 13:34

I solved Semantle #45 in 154 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -0.79. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #8. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 8.91. https://semantle.novalis.org/
FFS I ended up thinking it's probably the complete opposite of the way I'm going and lo and behold it was!

@InMySpareTime your clue helped me go in the right direction even if the going was slow Grin

AliasGrape · 15/03/2022 14:23

FFS

Totally random guess just plucked from nowhereand in no way related to any of the words I’d been following up to now (actually it was a follow on from another completely cold word I don’t even know what made me type it in) If id have carried on that path I think it would have taken me a thousand guesses or more

I solved Semantle #45 in 104 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 27.50 (709/1000).My penultimate guess had a similarity of 16.47. semantle.novalis.org/
