Semantle 4

Semantle thread 3 is almost full and we don't seem to be running out of steam, so here's a nice new shiny thread for those, like me, who are mad enough to start the new game at Midnight.

The game of Semantle can be found by folowing this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now our previous thread is here. We tend to use the threads to rant about how we're getting nowhere, celebrate our successes and laugh about the previous day's top 1000 but please, no spoilers. Subtle hints only here; use DMs for more obvious clues.

Enjoy, and forget about the News, the housework and the rest of your life for a while!

Today is going to be another day of many, many wild guesses before any greens turn up!

ErrolTheDragon · 15/03/2022 09:34

@AliasGrape

I’ve got these which seem to be leading in a certain direction but related stuff stone cold - going to leave it a bit and see if anything else comes to me
They're not very directly related imo, some are to the noun form, others more to the verb I think. That probably doesn't help much!
SlightlyJaded · 15/03/2022 09:35

@ErrolTheDragon
Agree

And a niche one at that. Stupid today

I'm amazed I did this without your help to be honest!

I solved Semantle #45 in 88 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.97. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #8. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 8.04. semantle.novalis.org/

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat

I agree *@ErrolTheDragon* - very clear when you look at the list!
Although that word itself is also not in the list. Confused

@BowerOfBramble

I’ve got 679 and 701, if anyone could PM a clue I’d appreciate it!
I don't see how either of those words will help Confused the list is particularly random today! I'll DM you x

I solved Semantle #45 in 46 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 15.49. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #24. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.32. semantle.novalis.org/

OopNorfDahnSarf · 15/03/2022 09:47

Well that was a weird one. Not sure how my words connected to it and not sure how I got it. Not as satisfying as yesterday where I followed a path to the answer.

I solved Semantle #45 in 114 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.07. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #13. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 7.73. semantle.novalis.org/

lljkk · 15/03/2022 09:48

Agree about the words being very random !! Got it after 263 guesses & about 50 minutes (!)

OopNorfDahnSarf · 15/03/2022 09:52

I would suggest that random word guessing will work better today

FooFighter99 · 15/03/2022 09:55

I solved Semantle #45 in 267 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 10.45. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #8. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.60. semantle.novalis.org/

I was determined to get today's answer with no help at all, so no googling synonyms or asking here for hits. Got there eventually!

lljkk · 15/03/2022 09:57

I agree about random guessing being very worthwhile.

BowerOfBramble · 15/03/2022 10:12

Okaaaay! Finally got it. Thanks to those who kindly PMed.

I solved Semantle #45 in 115 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.07. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #17. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 38.66 (981/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

BammBamm · 15/03/2022 10:14

In 87 today but agree very random, I was going down the wrong track completely Hmm

BowerOfBramble · 15/03/2022 10:15

It felt so much more than 115 as I was really stuck!

angeldumottschunard · 15/03/2022 10:20

I haven't attempted today's yet, as I never finished yesterday. I was following a really clear path up to 931 and then got completely stuck - now I've checked the top 100 it looks like the path I was following was completely the wrong one and ended at 931 because I can't see how any of the words around it relate!

BabbleBee · 15/03/2022 10:45

33 guesses and still cold.

Spudlet · 15/03/2022 11:10

According to Reddit, many of the top words are associated with a thing which isn’t really a thing in every country (hopefully that’s vague enough not to be a spoiler). Happy to expand on this by pm if anyone wants.

Wallawallakoala · 15/03/2022 11:12

@BabbleBee would you like a hint? What's your highest number

Drawerofcrap · 15/03/2022 11:16

I'm stuck again. 🙄

Got 562, 302, 294, 278 and cannot think of any more words. I've tried word association, synonyms, antonyms, words that would fit in a sentence with the words we've got, etc, and I'm just getting further away. Been at this since 12.30am, lol.

Would appreciate some high words or a clue towards the theme. Thanks.

HadEnoughOfBears · 15/03/2022 11:16

What's the most guesses anyone has ever had? I'm currently on 325.
(in Covid jail and nothing else to do)

BabbleBee · 15/03/2022 11:17

@Wallawallakoala love your username, makes me smile! I got a lucky 882 then jumped to 995 so I’ll wait for a bit and see if I can get it but thanks Smile

Are they a 'thing' in Scotland?

or is it like Morris dancing or something? (I've lost my sanity doing this today)
