Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I found todays easier, but it took me longer to find anything in the top 1000

I solved Semantle #34 in 105 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.93. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #38. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 48.44 (995/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I solved Semantle #34 in 67 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 14.10. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #67. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 22.93. semantle.novalis.org/

I genuinely am struggling to believe this! Before guessing the correct word, which I think was related to my previous guess, all my words were cold! I was beginning to wonder why I was wasting my time again.!

Am going to go back and look at what's in the top 1000 now.

Started off slow, but got there finally!

I solved Semantle #34 in 78 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 6.18. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #41. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 7.29. semantle.novalis.org/

I got it early, a random guess, after no near guesses so will spend odd bits of today trying to find all the similar words.

Managed to get to 983 now and I feel I should be able to get it from that but no!
I thought the same but it took me another 20 guesses to get a higher green!

On only my 10th guess I’ve got a word in the high 800s. Do I now leave it for awhile so I can spread the game over the day (normally takes me nearly all day to get a green answer) or try and finish it quickly. Of course I will probably still end up with about 200 guesses!

I've definitely got a theme today, in the greens which is a good start.

Strategy wise I tend to guess randonly until I get higher than 10%, then I play word association game with the top 3-5 words. This always seems to nudge me towards green.
