Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now, thread one is here.

Enjoy, and don't shoot the messenger when you get nothing else done all day!!!

Semantle Chapter 2
squirrelnutkins1 · 05/03/2022 09:06

@lljkk

I sent possible hints to Squirrel Nutkin... but I'm actually stuck myself.

If she gets it right 3 guesses after that then I'm going off to sulk in a corner.

Still baffled!! Xx
Snorklette · 05/03/2022 09:18

Gaaahhh! I’m currently on 177 guesses and closest is 958/100. Haven’t got any closer in the last 30 minutes

I wouldn't have got it from 958 at all. I was stuck for a long time on that. You might need to go a different way.
RoxieLoxy · 05/03/2022 09:27

Still stuck on 958. I'm now typing in random words again!!

BowerOfBramble · 05/03/2022 09:30

I’m actually beating myself up now for how many things I guessed that were synonyms of the answer but it didn’t occur to me. It’s not an “Americanised” word but thinking America helped me solve it.

BowerOfBramble · 05/03/2022 09:30

Anyone need hints?

Snorklette · 05/03/2022 09:30

@hadenoughofbears
Huffed back from shower. Now adopted tactic of staring around my bedroom typing any word that pops into my head. Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the Wee Donkey.. this is breaking a good woman who really should be getting ready to go out

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 05/03/2022 09:36

I solved Semantle #35 in 79 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 8.55. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #8. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 42.59 (948/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

This is what I thought. I am mumbling words to myself. DP said something Americanised, the word came to me instantly.
BabbleBee · 05/03/2022 09:38

I’m so impatient with this today. Only 10 guesses, all freezing and I’ve already got the hump with it Grin

It Americanises British spellings I think, which is helpful!
weebarra · 05/03/2022 09:41

I solved Semantle #35 in 44 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.67. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 41.64 (938/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Bit of thinking out of the box needed today!

MadisonAvenue · 05/03/2022 09:42

43 guesses and still cold.

LemonViolet · 05/03/2022 09:51

122 guesses in today before I found anything! In at 564. Hmmmm. Seems like a dead end tho.

squirrelnutkins1 · 05/03/2022 09:58

The America thing has stumped me even more lol! Still no further than 916. Any hints welcome! X

FooFighter99 · 05/03/2022 10:00

I solved Semantle #35 in 86 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 6.96. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #60. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 42.59 (948/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

ErrolTheDragon · 05/03/2022 10:01

I'm still stuck at 762, with my next highest at 707. I suppose at those levels they're probably quite tenuous relationships but trying to explore sidesteps out from their various meanings is getting me nowhere except cold.

Snorklette · 05/03/2022 10:09

@sexnotgender
Ditto Grin

InMySpareTime · 05/03/2022 10:15

I got an answer that didn't have a rank! I didn't even know that was a thing.
What's with the ????
I'm otherwise stumped. Is the word an object or a concept?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/03/2022 10:16

my top word had me down the wrong road but bizarrely it was 875 so quite high just a different direction, i did use a thesaurus. is that cheating?

OopNorfDahnSarf · 05/03/2022 10:16

I solved Semantle #35 in 271 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 0.90. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #31. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 15.20. semantle.novalis.org/

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/03/2022 10:16

if you click on the ????? it will tell you why, i had the same, the answer was perhaps it needed to be capitalised

OopNorfDahnSarf · 05/03/2022 10:17

I think the word could be seen as an object or an action
