Petrol queue

bananaskin123 · 25/02/2022 22:48

Anyone else noticed this starting again? Went to Sainsburys yesterday. Usually stop at their petrol station then drive to the car park for their store but yesterday there was an enormous queue for petrol.
Only asking because quite a few people have mentioned difficulties today on our local Face Book page. Surely there's no need to go down this road again. Are people just panic buying?

Is getting petrol on payday something people deliberately do? I’ve never heard of this!
Anyway, I haven’t been past a station today so I can’t say if I’ve noticed or not but Dh had to get fuel this afternoon and didn’t mention anything when he got home. Which means nothing really. He told me he had bruised his ear though. Not really relevant I guess.

Endofdaysarehere · 25/02/2022 23:34

Drove from Scotland to the Midlands today, passed maybe 20 petrol stations due to a very dodgy route…one was busy.

Maybe very localised panic buying? Tbf if I lived in that town I’d buy all the petrol to get out of there too.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/02/2022 23:35

Ha! Yes, I did - today at Tesco SW London. I was wondering what happened!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 25/02/2022 23:36

@MushroomCat

Please stop with the panic threads.

Nobody is stock piling. It was just a busy station, I passed four today and none were busy at best 2-3 people filling up!

Erm. Yes they are. Here in the south east (in the town we live in who seem to be very good at panic buying!) the fuel stations are closing, massive queues and all over local social media - these are being deleted thank goodness. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening.
Theunamedcat · 25/02/2022 23:37

I thought there was but it was actually fine its just the tesco garage in the small town next to my town was 5p cheaper and someone announced it on Facebook causing a queue of bargain hunters I stuck to my town and it was busy but free flowing as usual

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/02/2022 23:38

There were red plastic (?) barriers to direct traffic. I was Confused amd Hmm because a 10 minutes pit and coffee stop took me 20 mins.

allypally20 · 25/02/2022 23:50

@thechosentwo if that's the first time in weeks you can afford to fill up the car - especially with prices rising - then yes, filling up on payday is what you do!

ElfDragon · 25/02/2022 23:55

I drive a lot (5/6 hours each day), and go across bits of 3 counties.

The last couple of days have certainly been much busier at petrol stations than before.

I had to fill up yesterday, and had to queue (not a huge queue, but never have to wait at that garage usually). I put it down to rising prices, and the worry that they might rise more (most petrol stations I pass have increased prices by 3 or 4 pence per litre this week - the one I stopped at hadn’t (yet))

Almost every petrol station I passed this afternoon was full of cars, in a way which doesn’t normally happen - there are a few I pass which are always full/queuing, but not every single one.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/02/2022 00:01

No queues here.

Backtomyoldname · 26/02/2022 00:01

Saw this at Morrisons in Shrewsbury today. Staff out to monitor queue. Always about 6-10 cars waiting to enter the forecourt.

I was there 12-1pm

Fuel set to run out after about 2pm.

Madness

LumpyandBumps · 26/02/2022 00:01

I was told that my local Tesco was out of diesel for a while today, but there were no obvious queues when I went to the shop mid afternoon. I didn’t need fuel so have no idea if they had re stocked. ( East Anglia).

0blio · 26/02/2022 00:03

@BeforeGodAndAllTheFish

Threads like this arent going to help. It's the drip drip drip that makes people start to panic and run out to do the same.
Exactly
thatonesmine · 26/02/2022 00:04

I filled up at Sainsbury's today, one ahead of me at the pump which is normal for a Friday afternoon.

Gooseysgirl · 26/02/2022 00:09

We don't drive that often but I filled up yesterday as we were almost empty. Usually I would just put £20 in to tide us over but I filled up yesterday in case prices go up. No queues - this was a Sainsbos one in north London.

GreenLunchBox · 26/02/2022 00:10

No queues here.

It's probably just a London thing

Pedallleur · 26/02/2022 07:58

As much fuel about as there was 2 weeks ago but not if everyone goes crazy as that means deliveries become more difficult. Fuel companies must love it as they raise the prices and demand based on internet rumours rises.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 26/02/2022 08:04

@GreenLunchBox

No queues here.

Definitely not just a London thing, I went to Morrisons yesterday to get one of the petrol vouchers, there was a long queue when I went into the shop, no queue by the time I came out but it turned out that was because they'd run out of diesel

I thought it was due to the offer but went past Sainsburys and they had u out too

megletthesecond · 26/02/2022 08:07

Was in a queue yesterday, staff directing traffic. Probably a combination of payday and people wanting to get in before further price rises.

bananaskin123 · 26/02/2022 09:11

I started the thread. Certainly don't want to cause any stress or panic to anyone. Bloodywhitecat I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I think maybe its a Sainsbos/Hertfordshire thing. Think I'll be getting my bike out if the price increases anymore!

GeneLovesJezebel · 26/02/2022 09:12

No, no queues here.

weleasewoderick23 · 26/02/2022 09:18

Plymouth here. Loads of long queues yesterday and Tesco had run out of diesel.

Garysmum · 26/02/2022 11:20

Random mix of closed stations, stations with all pumps open and stations with people queuing with jerry cans.

TheChosenTwo · 26/02/2022 11:44

I drove past 3 this morning, no queues (I still have half a tank in my car, no intention of topping up until I’m almost empty, same as always).

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 26/02/2022 12:19

Sainsbury’s is cheaper, so everyone is going there to try and reduce the effect of price rises.

Pedallleur · 26/02/2022 12:21

No queues up in north Manchester this am. Just need it to go tv and the sheep will be out.
