A lot of people don't seem to know how much energy they actually use per year. but if you do would you share for comparison?
Family of 2 adults and 2 teens, lots of gaming and computer use, both adults WFH. We have a semi-detached 1930s bungalow with gas central heating (combi boiler) a gas hob and all our water for showers is heated by gas. We have an electric oven, tumble dryer, large fridge freezer plus extra freezer and lots of gadgets!

Annual usage is approx
Gas 11,000 kwh
Elec 6,500 kwh

Yes - and people should do but many don't.
If someone wants to reduce their usage, they need to know what devices are using and how much energy they are using.

Our flat - 1600 KWH per yr electricity, 10,000 KWH gas

UK average - 2900 KWH electricity, 12,000 KWH gas

PicaK · 25/02/2022 18:45

Gas 27000kwh
Electric 7400kwh

pinkysmum · 25/02/2022 19:23

Similar set up to you - 4 bed detached house.
Elec 9857 kwh
Gas 14773 kwh

We have under floor heating in the kitchen which we have on in winter which bumps it up, and I have the iron on quite a bit as run an ironing service.
I've been looking at our usage this week as I'm worried about the cost. I've put a meter on we have had sitting in a drawer for years to see what is using up the electricity as I want to cut down. My findings are the tv, lights and gadgets don't make a lot of difference but the iron, underfloor, tumble dryer, oven and dishwasher send it shooting up. I don't think I can cut any of those out apart from the under floor heating.

My annual usage last year was
6,500kwh gas
2,600kwh electricity

I live alone in a self build house completed at the end of 2018.
I'm retired and am at home most of the time.

Gas underfloor heating downstairs and electric underfloor heating and towel rail in bathroom. Plus occasional fan heater boost in dressing area.

All hot water is gas and all cooking is electric.

Usage is slightly down this year so far.

GiantKitten · 25/02/2022 20:58

Victorian mid-terrace, 3 beds plus attic, 2 pensioners all the time & occasional visits from adult kids.
Usage has been much lower than usual this winter, esp gas.
I send a meter reading every month so this is accurate.

Electricity: 3100 kWh
Gas: 17100 kWh

I think we are quite frugal. Bulb used to compare you to similar households, I think we were average gas below average electricity usage.

pawpaws2022 · 25/02/2022 21:21

2434kwh electric
5598kwh gas

pawpaws2022 · 25/02/2022 21:22

Hollytreenew · 25/02/2022 21:27

4000kwh Gas
1000kwh electricity
It is only me and I’m used to living in a cooler house but I go out a lot too. I do put the heating up when I have visitors as I’m aware they probably don’t want it the same temperature I’m used to!

MrsPnut · 25/02/2022 21:36

We’ve not quite been with Octopus for a year but our electric is 6979kW and gas is 21311kW but I have now reduced the time the heating is on to try to save money.
I also got 4 loads of washing dry on the line today including 2 lots of bedding that I would usually tumble dry.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/02/2022 21:57

3 bed detatched, 2 adults one teen. WFH.

Elec 3,700Kwh
Gas 16,800Kwh

We are in Scotland so a bit cooler up here and need new windows/doors!

Smeds · 25/02/2022 22:01

2513 electricity
12550 gas

3 bed draughty semi in Scotland.

TheChosenTwo · 25/02/2022 22:06

Not a clue. I know how much we pay but Dh received the bill via email and it just gets paid.
I know how much we pay but don’t know how much we are using.

GeorgiePorge · 25/02/2022 22:11

Not been in our house a full year but estimated elec is around 15,000Kwh -that is with being careful and having solar panels

Heating and water is on electricity.. so we are really feeling the rise. our standing charge is also going up to 54p... double what it was previously Confused

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 25/02/2022 22:17

20,000 kWh gas
6070 kWh elec

Why is our gas so much? Why?

hilbil21 · 25/02/2022 22:18

Elec 2354
Gas 17781

We have solar panels so that helps with elec in the brighter months but on reading this I feel our gas is quite high! 3 bed terraced, 2 adults both in a lot of the day and 1 child.

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 25/02/2022 22:20

More info - 5 bed house, 2 teens, 2 adults. We both wfh but neither have heating on in our offices! We only have 4 radiators on downstairs... and 4 upstairs. Keep heating at 19 degrees.

Teawithmilknosugar · 25/02/2022 22:21
