Freedom day… has your kids school/nursery been in contact with what that means?

Just wondering if you have kids at nursery/primary/secondary school if the setting has been in touch to explain what this actually means in practise?

Can kids go in with covid symptoms?
Are they still recommending testing?
Can staff go in with covid symptoms?
Is anything in place?

Where I work and my kids settings haven’t said anything yet, just wondering!

I’m a secondary school teacher but currently on half term.

When we go back on Monday all bets are off. No masks, tables back in groups. Face to face meetings, assemblies in the hall for all year groups.

I assume that as staff they will have us in if we’re well enough to teach - they’re desperate for staff! I’m thinking it’s now completely back to normal.

As a childminder i still have to close if any of my family get covid. So nothing changing in my setting

I'm curious to see what it means for our workplace. No email or guidence from my company as yet.

daisybrown37 · 22/02/2022 12:32

The DfE guidance was only released last night/this morning so they will need time to figure it out

We don't know that yet? Guidance hasn't been released for Thursdays changes
onemouseplace · 22/02/2022 12:34

Not heard from either primary or secondary yet, but I imagine they are still processing the information.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 22/02/2022 12:35

@PotteringAlong

Has your head been in touch to say that?

@Glenthebattleostrich

Are you in England?

@Rainallnight

Sorry I hate the term!!!!!

It’s not Freedom Day.

My child goes to a SEND college with some of the most vulnerable children locally.

Not sure why diverting attention from Boris Johnson’s lying, scheming deviousness should impact on everyone’s health.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 22/02/2022 12:42

@daisybrown37

Do you have a link I can’t find the updated version just the one from jan

Its what we have been told both by pacey and our local authority. Our childminder rep in our LA has made an urgent appointment with the DfE because of it.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 22/02/2022 13:32

Form thank link about it Looks like schools can refuse kids with symptoms to protect others…!

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2022 13:35

Not yet but I’d give them a couple of days

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 22/02/2022 13:36

Actually that link is very confusing can’t work out if that’s the new or old guidance

I’m pretty sure my head has gone to Jamaica for half term, and emailed us all on Friday saying over and out. So I’m not sure we will get an email 😅

IronyFreeAnnie · 22/02/2022 13:40

Literally just had an email from nursery- nothing about symptoms. Face masks no longer required at drop off and pick up and we will shortly be allowed back in the building for handovers- no more standing in the rain while some parents insist on a ten minute handover conversation at the door😀

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 22/02/2022 13:42

@IronyFreeAnnie

Oh I liked the door handover with minimal chat 🤣

I’ve not heard anything. Have a child off at the moment with zero symptoms but testing positive. I’m assuming I can send him Thursday. The school aren’t providing any home learning material anymore so that seems to send a wanting them in message.

IronyFreeAnnie · 22/02/2022 14:13

@OnceuponaRainbow18

So did I! It was the hanging round in the rain while other people decided they need chapter and verse on every little thing, despite the massive queues behind them that wound me up!
Hoping when we are allowed back in they will still keep the app updated through the day so I can just run in and grab DS😀

Agreed, give us a chance! It takes a while to digest this information, figure out what it means in practice and take into account other guidance that may be issued from the LA or local public health teams ( which in the past has directly contradicted the government stance.)

Add into the mix that it's half term and most staff aren't paid to work, and surely you can see that it might take a day or two to pull communication together. Nothing changes until Thursday anyway so I'm sure you'll here in due course.

This.

I literally had no idea what you were talking about, and disagree with it now that I know.

BreakingUpWithMyPhone · 22/02/2022 14:24

I work in an NHS Trust, and imagine they'll keep restrictions in place for some time. NHS bosses specifically asked the government not to do this.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 22/02/2022 14:54

@BreakingUpWithMyPhone

Yea I’m hoping my school does and my kids nursery/school
