Freedom day… has your kids school/nursery been in contact with what that means?

Just wondering if you have kids at nursery/primary/secondary school if the setting has been in touch to explain what this actually means in practise?

Can kids go in with covid symptoms?
Are they still recommending testing?
Can staff go in with covid symptoms?
Is anything in place?

Where I work and my kids settings haven’t said anything yet, just wondering!

@Opihr

Well this date was thrown out there a while ago so I’d have thought a few discussions would have been had already…!

The date was, but no details, only speculative media commentary. The devil is in the detail and we got that on the news last night like everyone else.

@OnceuponaRainbow18 we had an email from the head outlining all of that information before we broke up from school last Friday.

gogohm · 23/02/2022 20:49

Don't know about schools but the two of ours at English universities have been told that they would prefer students to stay at home but can't make them

reluctantbrit · 23/02/2022 21:02

DD’s secondary sent a message late tonight that anyone with positive test result shouldn’t come in for 5 days. Any symptoms but no test, again, stay home for 5 days.

No idea how this will be realistic if they send everyone home who now coughs a bit and parents don’t test anymore.

Will be an interesting Summer term.

@reluctantbrit

Sounds good to me, hoping mine does something similar and my kids!

My boy hasn't started nursery yet but I'm hoping that I can go to some settling in classes with him🤞🏻
We need to treat it like the flu...if your sick stay if work/don't go visit your old granny!

SKYTVADDICT · 23/02/2022 21:16

One of mine at Secondary tested positive today. Its not half term here (was last week) and school have supplied some work and the "old" advice. Waiting to hear any new advice from tomorrow! He's unlikely to go back until next week though as has cold and cough symptoms

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/02/2022 21:18

Our school has confirmed that school concerts will still be recorded - no parents allowed and parents night will be by telephone.

No change for us.

mummykel16 · 23/02/2022 21:26

We had our freedom Day, wasn't exactly what we expected

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 23/02/2022 21:32

@MajorCarolDanvers

Any changes in regards to whether they can go in with covid symptoms but feel ok?

Our primary school has said they still have to isolate for a minimum of 5 full days and then can come in after 2 negatives.

The only difference it seems from currently is that children don't have to do daily tests if a family member is positive.

Woahthehorsey · 23/02/2022 21:58

DHs boss currently has Covid. His bosses boss has meeting in the office tomorrow with DH and covid boss. Covid boss wants to rearrange and big boss is saying no. DH doesn't want to go in and catch covid.

So yeah, we aren't loving it!

balalake · 23/02/2022 22:00

It is not Freedom Day by any means and I am sorry if you view it that way.

Hope the school provides clarification.

Gotobloodysleep · 23/02/2022 22:04

I work in early years and tested positive this morning thanks to ds2 being positive Monday, they have stated that I still have to test negative Monday and Tuesday before I can return. Ds2's school don't want him till Monday.
