Bleeding between periods

Just wondering if anyone had had similar and what the outcome was. I will be calling thr GP to discuss this as I can't ignore it any longer.

I've been experiencing increasing bleeding between my periods. What started as just light spotting a few days before I came on, is now light to moderate bleeding for 1-2 weeks before I come on now.
Just looked back in my diary and it seems to have been happening since at least Jan 2021 so over a year now.

I am 35, on no contraception, overweight, smears up to date and clear, but been 2 years since my last.

I've left it in the hope it'll stop eventually, but it isn't, and I do feel aware of but no pain in my womb. Difficult to explain, maybe a fullness, but not tender at all.

I know I should have seen a GP by now but was worried about being fobbed off or wasting their time. I did have a CT scan a couple of years ago for other reasons which found an incidental small cyst on one of my ovaries, but that was all.

Sorry, I know no one will have any answers for me, but can't sleep and just putting my worries out there into the abyss.

I had this and it was found to be polyps. 2 tiny polyps in my uterus that were only around 3 or 4mm in size but cause regular bleeding in between periods and I had to have a hysteroscopy to have them removed. Hope you can get it sorted soon.

LewI89 · 17/02/2022 03:35

Oh lovely, that sounds awful.

If your smears are up to date, please try not to worry. It's highly unlikely that anything sinister could develop within the space of a year (if the abnormal bleeding started a year ago).

Could this be more of an abnormal cycle rather than spotting between periods?

Could be down to uterine fibroids, a cyst, infection, hormonal changes etc. Lots of issues could cause spotting between periods and there are a few things that can give you a really abnormal cycle.

Your first port of call should be your GP and they will likely refer you for an ultrasound. I'd ask for a full gynae MOT :-).

I hope that your cycle returns to normal soon!! Daffodil

Hi just wondering how your getting on with this? Im having very similar issue myself! My bleedings been happening since 2020, smear was 6 month prior to this and clear, so no one is that interested! Took myself to a private gynae who was also not worried, prescribed the pill to “help” however have bled every day for the last two months on that so now even worse! Xx

Hey, frustratingly no further forward yet. Was booked for an ultrasound tomorrow but they called this week and said they had to cancel due to 'covid reasons' 🙄
Booked in again on 1st may.
GP not overly concerned. Mentioned implantation bleeding as it commonly happens the week before my period, but I don't think it's that as it happens at other times in my cycle too.
So just waiting for the ultrasound then back to the GP for the result and she says she'll examine me. I may ask for a blood test as I'm thinking possible thyroid issue as I'm also so tired all the time.

Oh sorry to hear that!

Me too, ultrasound was all ok and so were my bloods so I’m not further forward. I’ve been being seen about this for about 12 months now and no one can give me answers, just told it’s one of those things. But I can’t just keep bleeding 😭

Hope we get some answers soon xxx

GeneLovesJezebel · 15/04/2022 09:17

My periods went haywire as I entered peri menopause, but you’re a bit young for that. Do you know what age your mum had her menopause ?
Hopefully you’ll get your scan soon. When I was waiting for one, before having the coil fitted, I got rung up early due to a cancellation.

sunshineandsnails · 15/04/2022 09:20

Have you had covid? Or your vaccinations? Mine have been horrendous since having covid and I have been bleeding constantly for 4 months now. I've had examinations, etc and smears all normal but the only thing that's helped is going on contraception. GP said that it may be due to immune response and covid but there's no concrete studies yet. It's been a horrible few months tbh Confused

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 15/04/2022 09:23

I had this a few years back. Mentioned it to a nurse who said not to worry. It stopped happening. Have had clear smears since.

Mrsworried1 · 19/04/2022 22:19

What contraception if you don’t mind me
Asking? I’ve been put on the mini pill and bled for 7 weeks every day 😭 getting tired now x

Mrsworried1 · 19/04/2022 22:20

How long did it last? This is almost two years- it’s tiring! Xx

skippymcskippy · 20/04/2022 06:07

With that much bleeding, have you been checked for anaemia? (Which would be extra-tiring!)

BobbinThreadbare123 · 20/04/2022 06:41

Same here. I've had a few types of scans and eventually they found a polyp. I think they'll remove that at some point. Just keep on asking; it's all very slow going at the moment 🙄

MissDefoe · 20/04/2022 07:00

I would insist on an ultrasound. Are you getting clear discharge?

i had this for several months and was told it was the peri menopause and not to worry. I then had a sudden flooding incident and then a series of investigations and it was found unfortunately to be a lot more serious. Hopefully on the mend now but I wouldn’t wait.

lightswitchmoment · 20/04/2022 07:51

I have been in the mini pill and injections over the years and they always cause continuous bleeding. It never stopped and so I had to stop using either as a form of contraception. It was miserable but I don't think progesterone agrees with some people.

Mrsworried1 · 20/04/2022 09:36

No just bleeding. I had an ultrasound, all clear xx

HopefulRose · 04/12/2022 23:30

Hi @StarlitTrees hope you are doing well, just wondered how you got on?

since I had my baby my periods have been a bit odd and I’ve had spotting a week or so before my periods and it’s starting to worry me so am trying to find out what others have done in similar situations

Mrsworried1 · 10/01/2023 08:26

Anyone got any updates? Im
still not further forward although have just had my routine smear and it’s normal. Not really reassuring when I’m spotting again 🙄xxx

Workinghardeveryday · 10/01/2023 08:51

I am in the same boat. It’s been going on since 2020.

Doctors referred me for an ultrasound which I had, showed nothing. Then to gynaecologist, apt never came, just plodded on and hoped it would stop.

Went back to doctors in November and been referred again, apt end March! Ultrasound again next week.

Mrsworried1 · 10/01/2023 09:54

Yeah mines been going on since 2020 constant spotting, I had ultrasound, was fine, then to gynaecology who said they didnt know but weren’t worried. Waiting for a hysteroscopy which I’m not looking forward to xxx

Hi @HopefulRose ive been having this since having my baby - i either have bleeding or spotting for over 2 weeks at a time 😫. I went to the GP, who was really lovely and has referred me to gynae for a check up. She said as my smears are up to date, she was happy not to refer under the two week protocol thing so I'm expecting a letter in around 6-8weeks. When was your last smear? Getting that up to date and a GP appt would be a good plan.

HopefulRose · 10/01/2023 22:53

@Notsuchacleverclogs hiya thank you for your reply. My last smear was March 2021 and was fine! I got a private GP appointment and they have referred me to gynae which I’m going to do through the NHS. I’ve got blood tests next week. Confusing I did a pregnancy test this morning, first one was positive the rest were negative .. now I’m worrying that it might be ovarian cancer related cos apparently it can cause a spike in HCG

Mrsworried1 · 11/01/2023 08:10

@HopefulRose Was it a test with blue lines? I did this too in the midst of bleeding, no chance I was present but had a CA125 blood test which was also normal, I put it down to the blue dye tests being rubbish. And been too scared to do one since. let us know how you get on!! Frustrating isn’t it- don’t want to spend my 30s bleeding!!! Xxx

HopefulRose · 11/01/2023 19:47

@Mrsworried1 yes it was the one with the blue lines, I think from Morrisons! Did that happen to you too? How bizarre!

did you do the ca125 privately or through the Nhs? I’ve been Googling and I’m tempted to just pay to get the quick turn around one to help calm my nerves!

totally agree, not a fun way to spend our 30s 😂🙈 xx

Mrsworried1 · 11/01/2023 21:51

It was just a blood test through the GP!
my friend had a positive blue line yesterday too and was not pregnant.

I had a call from the clinic today who did my smear to say I have strep B which showed on the other swabs they did, and they were going to treat it with an internal cream- I was under the impression it didn’t need to be treat? I had it in pregnancy and no one seemed bothered. She said my cervix was inflammed too, and I need to be seen again next week- I’m so confused and worried! My smear is clear though? Xx

HopefulRose · 11/01/2023 21:56

@Mrsworried1 ahh ok, I’ve got a blood test booked for next week but not sure what they are checking for. I think I’m gonna call the Doctors tomorrow anyway about the random positive test just to clear it up. All very strange! How odd that it happened to your friend too on the same day! I wonder if it was the same brand!

Aw sorry to hear that. Did they say whether that might cause the bleeding? Hopefully that would make sense if so as your smear is clear. Let me know how you get on xx
