Bleeding between periods

StarlitTrees · 17/02/2022 02:58

Just wondering if anyone had had similar and what the outcome was. I will be calling thr GP to discuss this as I can't ignore it any longer.

I've been experiencing increasing bleeding between my periods. What started as just light spotting a few days before I came on, is now light to moderate bleeding for 1-2 weeks before I come on now.
Just looked back in my diary and it seems to have been happening since at least Jan 2021 so over a year now.

I am 35, on no contraception, overweight, smears up to date and clear, but been 2 years since my last.

I've left it in the hope it'll stop eventually, but it isn't, and I do feel aware of but no pain in my womb. Difficult to explain, maybe a fullness, but not tender at all.

I know I should have seen a GP by now but was worried about being fobbed off or wasting their time. I did have a CT scan a couple of years ago for other reasons which found an incidental small cyst on one of my ovaries, but that was all.

Sorry, I know no one will have any answers for me, but can't sleep and just putting my worries out there into the abyss.

@Mrsworried1 re Strep B, that's crazy that it wasn't taken seriously in your pregnancy. You should have been offered IV antiobiotics in labour (unless you had a section?). I am Strep B positive and it was passed to my baby during labour due to my waters breaking early. She developed sepsis as a result and spent two weeks in NICU. If you are ever pregnant again you should be given the antibiotics. Drives me crazy that so many babies still get so ill from something so preventable.

I've now got my gynae appt through for next week so hoping to get some answers soon 🙏

Mrsworried1 · 12/01/2023 08:14

Hi yes I had a section luckily! I’ve had it on every vaginal swab since- when I’ve had thrush symptoms etc. I’ve read they don’t treat strep b outside of pregnancy so who knows why they are now. Slightly worried about my inflammed cervix! Was happy when my smear results came back normal and now the nurse is back tracking to what she saw when she was taking the smear! X

I am in the same boat. It’s been going on since 2020.

Doctors referred me for an ultrasound which I had, showed nothing. Then to gynaecologist, apt never came, just plodded on and hoped it would stop.

Went back to doctors in November and been referred again, apt end March! Ultrasound again next week.

Just had txt to say apt moved forward to next Thursday with gynaecologist.

Will send update then.

I will have my full period then, will they still be able to get a look and examine me?

Yes, they have examined me before when I was bleeding. X

Notsuchacleverclogs · 19/01/2023 21:47

Just to update this thread, i had a gynae appt today at the one stop women's clinic our GP offers with a consultant from our local hospital. They did an internal scan and said that my uterus lining is very thick, which he thinks is leading to the long periods. He seemed satisfied that it is down to my existing PCOS. He's referred me to the fertility clinic (we conceived DD1 with letrozole and are hoping to do the same with DC2) but satisfied that no further bloods or tests required unless i get further symptoms. I did get a very good look at how horribly cysty my ovaries are though 😫😭

Hope you all get positive news and appointments soon 🤞🏻

I’m so glad I’ve found this thread! I’ve been having the same for the past few months. I think it could be something to do with my endometriosis but I have no idea 🤷🏼‍♀️. I’ve been bleeding inbetween ovulation and my period just lightly but I’m trying to conceive for baby no 2 and just feel like this bleeding isn’t a good sign 😫 been referred to gynae though!

Workinghardeveryday · 06/02/2023 07:06

Today is the day. I finally have my apt.

I am so nervous, what will they do? Will it be a man? I don’t want a man!

so nervous 😟

Whatoflife · 06/02/2023 08:16

@Workinghardeveryday I’m pretty certain they won’t be able to do anything if you’re bleeding. It may be worth letting them know before you go.

JoeMaplin · 06/02/2023 08:19

Please get it checked. Bleeding between periods is not normal and does need to be checked. Smear tests are not diagnostic tests if you have symptoms. This is from someone who spent 2022 having so many tests and is now 10 weeks past total hysterectomy.

HopefulRose · 06/02/2023 09:27

@Workinghardeveryday good luck! Thinking of you, let us know how you get on.

Workinghardeveryday · 06/02/2023 10:59

Hi all, just out of apt.

It was a man but he didn’t examine me 🙌🏻.

He said I had a smear in 2021 and an ultrasound that was fine and he didn’t think I required it. I explained I have had anxiety for about 6 years sometimes to the point I cannot leave the house, depression where I feel totally hopeless for a week or so, brain fog, night sweats, fatigue, put on weight around my tummy, boobs twice the size, very very short tempered at times.

He said there was no way of knowing if my hormones are the cause, could be mh issue. I explained I had spent thousands on therapy that did not work for anxiety, tried antidepressants that did nothing. Explained my depression is definitely hormonal as it is the same time every months when it happens.

Periods went from 35-25 or less days, bleeding in between periods, flooding.

He reluctantly said trying hrt is an option. I asked if it is possible for all these years I have had anxiety could it have been peri, he said yes definitely. I think it was looking back now, I didn’t consider it could be related to hormones before.

I need to speak with gp about what form of hrt and go back in 4 months.

Any words of advice before I speak with gp?!

That sounds horrendous. I hope you are okay x

I know it's an old post but on the off chance it helps anyone, I was spotting from about day 21 of my cycle. Went to the GP, ended up getting a private ultra sound and hysterectomy to check for polyps. Was advised it was my progesterone hormone levels dropping too soo , and the only thing I could do was take the pill if I didn't want the spotting.

After lots of googling and doing my own research I found the one thing that helps massively is having organic milk. On a cycle when I only have organic milk I might get 2 days of spotting, if I have normal milk I get at least 7 days.

Hi, this is really helpful. Could I ask about your bleeding please? How often, what was it like, has it always been like this?

I have a tilted cervix and smears are horrendous so I go to colposcopy for them. I can't offer the depo last year after 3 years on it (no bleeding while on it), and after my smear at the end of July this year (which came back clear). I've had light pink spotting after finishing my period every day intermittently, then nothing at all during ovulation week, then spotting again until my next period. The day after finishing my last period, I also had one episode of bright red bleeding after sex which has never happened before and panicked me to the core. The day after that, it was back to the light pink spotting.

My GP has referred me for an ultrasound because I have horrific health anxiety, but said he doesn't think there is anything to worry about. He and a nurse I saw both think it could be an ectropian.

merryandbrightdelight · 23/09/2024 20:48

I should have said - dd5 was IVF in 2019, dd2 was natural in 2020. No issues ever been picked up

It was just a blood test through the GP!
my friend had a positive blue line yesterday too and was not pregnant.

I had a call from the clinic today who did my smear to say I have strep B which showed on the other swabs they did, and they were going to treat it with an internal cream- I was under the impression it didn’t need to be treat? I had it in pregnancy and no one seemed bothered. She said my cervix was inflammed too, and I need to be seen again next week- I’m so confused and worried! My smear is clear though? Xx

Did you ever get to the bottom of this @Mrsworried1

RomeoRivers · 23/09/2024 20:56

I also had investigations for bleeding/spotting between periods and after sex several years ago.

Got the all clear from the gynaecologist, but later on had 3 consecutive miscarriages caused by low progesterone, turns out intermittent spotting is a symptom of low progesterone.

I’m now on my 3rd successful pregnancy thanks to progesterone suppositories. But I think my hormones reset themselves after the first pregnancy because I haven’t had any random bleeding since.

Wow that's interesting! Never thought of hormones. My GP thinks that the changes could be down to my body getting older and from years of contraception- he said the depo especially causes a whole host of issues.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope it's going well for you

Twinsmum2021 · 24/09/2024 06:32

@merryandbrightdelight

I had light spotting from about day 21 to periods starting on day 28, only really noticing when wiping. Gynaecologist put down to progesterone levels dropping too soon around day 21. First noticed early 2020, had children oct 21, and same problem returned when cycles returned if not drinking organic milk.

This is all with no hormonal contraception. I do get ovulation bleeding. I used to get cervical erosion bleeding when on the combined pill.

Hope this helps

@merryandbrightdelight hi sorry for the late reply!

No, I’ve had a coil for almost two years (in January it’ll be 2 years) and it’s still no better.

i bleed whenever my body feels like it. Could last ages.

im 35 now, this started when I was 31.

on the wait list for an ablation…

still convinced it’s something sinister.

anyone else still struggling?

x

sharpclawedkitten · 01/11/2024 18:36

I had bleeding between periods about 10 years ago. I had a health check via work and they organised for me to have a vaginal ultrasound - it picked up polyps so I had them removed. The consultant also said I had what used to be called cervical erosion so zapped that too and I've not had problems since

I thought it might be something like this for me, but I had an internal ultrasound then a hysteroscopy, d&c and biopsy and they’ve just said “it’s hormonal” 🙄😭 xx
