Patisserie Valerie birthday cake delivery - anyone used this?

Has anyone ever used Patisserie Valerie to deliver a birthday cake? Were they any good, and did it arrive on time?

SalsaLove · 12/02/2022 13:41

Yes, I did and there were no delays at all. The cake arrived mid-morning.

wispalove · 12/02/2022 13:42

We love patisserie Valerie cakes in our house. Order it to come the day before you want to eat it then leave it in the fridge overnight and it will be perfect. Never had any issues with delivery

WeaverofWords · 12/02/2022 14:28

Thank you, both! Is it true that the cakes arrive frozen? It's to deliver to my DS at university.

I’d be wary, there’s some awful reviews on Trustpilot:

@WeaverofWords yeah they come frozen then you leave it in the fridge overnight.

This is one we got last year

My sister got one for herself last year. Very well packed. Came when promised (day before b'day)and instructions clear about having to be refrigerated overnight. Utterly delicious as with all their products.

WondrousAcorn · 12/02/2022 14:55

Sent one for a special birthday last year. Delivery and packing perfect, but the recipient didn’t say much about the cake itself and I get the impression they weren’t bowled over by it. It was a chocolate one with macarons and there was a comment about those being soggy, which I guess isn’t a surprise.

WeaverofWords · 12/02/2022 14:56

Oh that looks fabulous, @wispalove Thanks for sharing.
Wahhh as someone pointed out, the reviews are consistently bad. I don't feel like taking a risk... What a shame! Maybe next year.

I posted a link to only the negative reviews, OP. I should have said. I find with Trustpilot you have to be careful to take invites rave reviews with a pinch of salt and look at the ratio of 5 to 1.

SparklingLime · 12/02/2022 15:03

What about a local bakery, or independent baker?

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 12/02/2022 15:07

I've received lovely cakes from The cake store but have recently been ordering and collecting cakes from m&s

What about having brownies delivered? Konditor & Cook do them with a birthday message on. Bad Brownies are delicious. Gower Cottage do them in birthday gift boxes.

Or I’ve heard good things about the birthday cake that Betty’s deliver.

Thelikelylass · 12/02/2022 15:13

I've ordered two in the last year, well packed and absolutely fine once defrosted. Perfectly delicious tasting cake, the sponge is always so light.

PaulGallico · 12/02/2022 16:01

Those reviews are all very odd...either that or the company has had a total meltdown in the last 7 days.

EinsteinaGogo · 12/02/2022 16:52

@SparklingLime

Might want to get the link to the Trustpilot reviews deleted.

You've filtered to negative only, and is pretty unfair as could lose them business if people (such as the OP) don't realise.

EinsteinaGogo · 12/02/2022 16:55

@PaulGallico - the link was set to show only negative reviews. Resetting the filter gives are much fairer view.

Try a box of brownies from Gower Cottage Brownies instead OP 👌

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 12/02/2022 17:35

Patisserie Valerie cakes are just mass produced frozen rubbish.

EcoCustard · 12/02/2022 18:32

DH ordered one for my 40th in lockdown. Arrived on time and with the dry ice around it. Looked lovely but tasted a bit dry and lacking in flavour. It tasted better than some of the purchased cakes we have had for birthdays though and cheaper.

PaulGallico · 12/02/2022 19:22

@EinsteinaGogo - understand the reviews had been filtered. However 40plus bad reviews in less than 7 days is what I think is odd.

CottonSock · 12/02/2022 19:25

I used deliveroo to send MIL posh patisserie

WeAllHaveWings · 12/02/2022 19:29

@wispaloveI have one of them coming on Tuesday as a treat for ds's 18th. Hope it was good? 🤞

Having never heard of these types of deliveries before, I received an afternoon tea by Patisserie Valerie just yesterday, from DP for Valentines Weekend - and the cakes are absolutely delicious! Haven't tried the scones yet, saving those for tomorrow, but I'm really impressed and am going to get the same for my parents for Mothering Sunday weekend. Thoroughly recommend!
