Danielle / Daniella for a girl?

(Not for me, sat with pregnant friends chatting about names)

Depends on your accent. Here in Edinburgh it would be Dan-YEHHL which doesn't sound as pretty as I'm sure the French intended.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 09/02/2022 20:33

Not keen.

Misspacorabanne · 09/02/2022 20:35

It's a no from me.

Ok but a bit boring.

MsMeNz · 09/02/2022 20:37

Maybe childhood memories but Danielle was a very erm chav-tastic be name. I knew a few at school that were pretty rough. I know not everyone will be think that with that name though. Maybe it was an 80s 90s thing.

amusedbush · 09/02/2022 20:37

I was born in 1990 and it feels very of that era. I know a lot of Danielles aged 30-40, including twins called Chantelle and Danielle Grin

I’m not a fan of a baby Danielle in 2022, I’m afraid, I don’t think it’s due a comeback yet!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/02/2022 20:38

Danielle…. No.

Thewindwhispers · 09/02/2022 20:40

Like it

Thenextmrsreacher · 09/02/2022 20:40

It’s very dated.

Yousexybugger · 09/02/2022 20:42

Not the nicest of names tbh. I did have a hellish boss called that though which may have tainted it!

MacauliflowerCulkin · 09/02/2022 20:42

I'm sort of the messenger here.

But she loves Dannie for a girl and Danny for a boy.

(Their boy name will be Daniel if she has a boy)

Her husband is half French if that helps!

I've just suggested Louella but it went down like a fart in a lift 😁

Eloidie? Just sounds nice (and French) Wink

Lipsandlashes · 09/02/2022 20:47

Gabrielle?

Tufty383 · 09/02/2022 20:48

If she loves it she should use it, not a name I chose though. Daniel/Danny for a boy is nice.

TenThousandSpoons · 09/02/2022 20:48

Daniel - yes
Danielle - no

Yousexybugger · 09/02/2022 20:49

If she loves it she should use it, nothing horrible about it, just a bit dated mainly!

UserBot9to5 · 09/02/2022 20:50

Ok but a bit dated. I know a baby Johanne though. So there are worse things than dated.

Tufty383 · 09/02/2022 20:51

What about Danni/Dani. Google says it means god is my judge. Just go with the shortening that she likes.

Rockbird · 09/02/2022 20:51

Daniella is far nicer than Danielle.

QueenJulian · 09/02/2022 20:53

Danni is nice for a girl and I love the name Daniel (Danielle is fine, probably sounds much nicer in French).
How about Agnes pronounced the French way?

mdinbc · 09/02/2022 21:00

If she likes it, then use it! I think it's a nice name.

lottiegarbanzo · 09/02/2022 21:01

Very, very '80s (so born in the 70s). Along with her friends Donna, Denise, Sharon and Michelle.

Dani is cute but Danielle (Dan-Yell) is not elegant.

Daniel is a near timeless classic and is generally pronounced better (Dan-yull, with the emphasis is on the first syl).

Clawdy · 09/02/2022 22:07

Donna, Denise, Sharon and Michelle That's interesting, I agree about most of those, but the Denises I know are all in their seventies!

PenelopeFloppyEars · 09/02/2022 22:12

^ I was born in 1979 so grew up in the 80s, there wasn't a single Denise at my school, lots of my friend's mum's were called Denise though. It was all Clare, Emma, Karen.

I don't like Danielle, I don't think it was even a nice name in the 80s nevermind now.
