Passport application

I just wondered if anyone has recently renewed their passport online and roughly how long you waited for it? Also was there a delay between the passport office receiving your old passport and updating the application tracking online, mine still doesn’t say they’ve received it but it was signed for last week Hmm

I had mine back within 10 days of them emailing to say they had received my old one, even though it was a few days before Christmas. I was really surprised.I didn’t actually bother with checking the tracking though.

MarineBlue33 · 09/02/2022 19:01

Yes has taken 8 days from when they actually got it (Royal mail tracking,), to when it was uploaded on their system as actually having received it

MarineBlue33 · 09/02/2022 19:03

I think its taking 4-5 weeks at the mo. However it's quicker if it a straight forward renewal with no name changes etc

SleepTheEnemyOfDreams · 09/02/2022 19:03

They are taking up to 10 weeks at the moment. I fly to Spain in 2 weeks and I'm shitting myself!

ItRainedForever · 09/02/2022 19:04

Got DD's renewal back on Monday, exactly three weeks from when I did the application online. As above, it took a week from when they received the old passport for them to acknowledge receipt, then another week to approve it.

Sunsetsupernova · 09/02/2022 19:05

I submitted my application on 24th January and posted the old one to them first class the same day. The new one arrived today so it took 2 weeks and 2 days

Oldhag5 · 09/02/2022 19:06

They signed for mine last Thursday and not updated it on the system yet…

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/02/2022 19:06

DDs took 2.5 weeks recently

Wouldyoubaby · 09/02/2022 19:06

We sent off 5 passports at same time. 2 went through no issues within aprox 2 weeks, 1 arrived last week about 3.5 weeks later, 1 requested proof of name at birth and we sent birth certificate last week but not heard anything yet, and the other has requested proof of date of birth so we sent birth certificate and we haven’t heard anything from that either.

It seems SO random! They were all allocated to different centres too, even though same family and applied at same time. There seems no rhyme or reason to it!

Sunsetsupernova · 09/02/2022 19:07

Once they receive it it’s very quick. I got a text to say they’d received mine on Friday and the new one was here this morning

SephrinaX · 09/02/2022 19:08

I currently have a child's first passport in progress with them. it took just over a week from when the documents were 'signed for' to when the system was updated to confirm that they were in fact there.

ticktock19 · 09/02/2022 19:09

Just got my acknowledgment from them that they're received my old passport but it was posted last Monday and signed for on Tuesday 1st Feb

MulticolourTriangles · 09/02/2022 19:12

I sent off for my daughter’s first passport on 16th January and it arrived today.

DappledThings · 09/02/2022 20:01

Submitted online 29 Jan, old one in post 31 Jan. Only acknowledged as arrived yesterday but further text update today to say new one on way.

SleepTheEnemyOfDreams · 09/02/2022 20:23

Why is mine taking so long?!!!

cameocat · 09/02/2022 20:46

Applied for DD and I on the same day, sent old passports back same day. Got conformation they'd received them and got mine back pretty quickly (2 weeks ish). Nothing about DD's passport at all. Makes no sense.

Fingerscrossed2022 · 09/02/2022 22:29

Thanks everyone! Seems to be random, hopefully it won’t take too long

Mine arrived today after them texting just yesterday to say old one had arrived with them. Got the horrible new cover hidden behind a nice I Voted Remain one already Grin

Does anyone know if a child had a first passport as a baby (still have it) but is now an adult, can you renew or does it have to be a first application again? I looked at the rules but doesn't seem to be clear.

If they are an adult, then they need to apply for an adult one. However, when you enter info online, they ask for your passport no, and then the system recognises that it has expired. If stuck, call their advice line

@SleepTheEnemyOfDreams

Why is mine taking so long?!!!
When did you apply? Was it a first passport?
ApolloandDaphne · 10/02/2022 22:41

Two weeks all in.

Desmondo2021 · 10/02/2022 22:45

Day 16 today and had the email yesterday so say it was all done and on its way

mashpot · 10/02/2022 22:48

Oh glad to see this as my son’s old passport was signed for last Thursday and they texted me today today to remind me to send it! Looks like this is pretty standard so I’ll give them another week.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 10/02/2022 22:51

I went through the Post Office so not quite the same. Received after 3 working days if I recall correctly.

New passport in 7 working days.

Old passport sent back and received after about 2 weeks.

This was about a month ago.

Hugely impressed.
