How long does it take to do a jigsaw??

Started a 1000 piece puzzle today with every intention of finishing it in an hour BlushGrin
Obviously my estimated time was WAY off, I did the maths based on my usual time to complete a 24 piece kids puzzle I think😂

I sat there for hours and don't seem to have got anywhere, I've got the edges done and am now working on the middle bit, had a good mind to just bin it but am determined to do it.
My son said at this rate it might be done by Xmas.
I'm actually looking forward to completing it, even if just to get the dining table back.

Just wondering how long you all take to do one of these, out of curiosity.

How long is a piece of stringGrin

AndStand · 06/02/2022 22:31

1000 piece, probably about a week. But that's just dipping in and out of it now and then rather than sitting there solidly working at it for 7 whole days.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 06/02/2022 22:31

I have been at mine for over a year now.

In my defence we did move in October, and I only unwrapped it today, but I have already done all the obvious bits and now every last bit left is an obnoxious shade of brown, so I was thrilled to get a dozen bits in...it's all about judging the shape you need now really.

Ages. Probably took 8 hours over several days to do a 1000 piece one with my dad recently but tbf he was more of a hindrance than a help.

Tsuni · 06/02/2022 22:35

You're being sarcastic when you say you want to "bin it," right?

It's impossible to put a time on it though. Some jigsaws are more difficult than others and everybody goes at a different pace.

Pipersouth · 06/02/2022 22:43

Too long and then I give up - I just don’t have patience Grin

LiveFromNewYork · 06/02/2022 22:44

Does depend on the picture a lot. I am a bit obsessive so sat down one day and did only that all day and finished it in about 9 hours. But it was intense and not the point of doing a jigsaw. It was of Piccadilly Circus.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 06/02/2022 22:48

Ages.
Started a new one today and it's going to be tricky I think because there are very similar colours.
We did a 1500 before Christmas. I started it and couldn't even do the border! It became our Covid puzzle so a join effort between DH and I. Took weeks. I am slow.

girafferafferaffe · 06/02/2022 22:51

I can usually do a 1000 piece in about 3-3.5 hours (if left completely alone). If not I will do it over maybe 2 or 3 evenings, each doing an hour or 2.

It does depend on the picture and lighting and honestly, my mood!!

Mumdiva99 · 06/02/2022 22:56

It takes me much longer. Our pre-Xmas 1000 piece I started when I had covid so was home a lot. It toom about 3 weeks and that was quick for me. I only do a couple a year.

beccahamlet · 06/02/2022 22:57

About 8 hours. Depends on the puzzle.

Spinnier · 06/02/2022 22:57

This is why I prefer 500pc ones!

It depends so much on how much detail there is and whether jigsaw-fiend DS is there to do the tough bits.

wafflyversatile · 06/02/2022 23:00

I generally prefer 500 piece ones too. An enjoyable level of challenge rather than long drawn out torturous challenge.

OytheBumbler · 06/02/2022 23:01

I've given up on 1000 piece puzzles. I can do the edges quickly but it takes me too long to get to the satisfying parts.

Thesearmsofmine · 06/02/2022 23:02

I am rubbish at puzzles so it would take me ages. DH will do one over the course of a few evenings, a couple of hours each day. I got him an impossipuzzle one which he kept going back too for weeks but had to get rid of in the end as he got so fed up with it, all the pieces were too similar.

Wafflesnsniffles · 06/02/2022 23:06

An easy one would take me about 3 days. A hard one could take over a week. No idea how many hours that is per day though.
A 500 piece one usually takes me about 4 hours spread across two days.

truthfullylying · 06/02/2022 23:06

Loving the idea you thought you could do it in an hour Grin

I would say a week of reasonable efforts for me. We tend to share, we all like doing different bits.

Kite22 · 06/02/2022 23:17

Can be weeks.
Depends how much time you can give to it.
Depends how challenging the picture is.
Depends how good you are at jigsaws Wink

caulkheaded · 06/02/2022 23:23

There’s a huge variety but I’d say about eight hours if I did it solidly. Less if it was an easy one, more for a harder one obviously.

Lots of stuff contributes though like how much time you have, how easy it is, space, lighting, enjoying it etc!!

Dinosaurwoman · 06/02/2022 23:25

I thought that when DH and I completed our 1000 piece jigsaw in three days over the Christmas holidays we’d done really well. We put in the equivalent of two working days at least , and this puzzle was a lot easier than a previous one which was mainly brown and that I eventually lobbed into the bin.

WheresYourSnickers · 06/02/2022 23:27

I recently did a 1000 piece jigsaw and it took me 2weeks, long weekend days and most evenings. I'd say 20+ hours in total. I must be very slow 😳

DramaAlpaca · 06/02/2022 23:28

DH is the jigsaw fan in our house, helped out by me and DS. I reckon a 1000 piece one takes about a week of dipping in and out of it every day.

RoseMartha · 06/02/2022 23:30

I started a 1000 pieces Christmas one Christmas week and have only completed just over half. Although I havent touched it since Friday. I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and really focus on it generally though.

On average I would say it would take me 2-3 weeks to do 1000 pieces, that is not sitting down to it everyday though.

I can do a 500 piece in a couple of days to a week.

In the first lockdown I was doing 1000 piece in a week.

I am juggling too many pies atm to concentrate in it. Lol

PanickedE · 06/02/2022 23:33

Around 6-7 hours

SuperSocks · 06/02/2022 23:35

1000 pieces takes me about 8 hours I reckon, spread over 2 or 3 weeks. I only like ones with lots of varied bright colours or they're very tricky!
