Talk to me about Paxos?

Any holiday suggestions for Paxos?

I'm thinking of booking a villa for the first time. We usually go All Inc. but want something different this year.

I'd love to know more about the different parts of the Island best beaches etc?

Travelling with 2 adults 2 young teens. Would love to be near a beach and a port with some gentle nightlife, restaurants more than nightclubs! Do you need a car when on the Island?

Also is it tricky actually getting there?

Thanks in advance. Smile

Not relevant. But I came on this thread really hoping you wanted to talk about the consensus algorithm.

Waves to any fellow computer geeks who hoped the same.

Hope you get some good advice and have a lovely holiday Smile

Yikes...is that a thing?

My post feels very low brow now .

Just feeling the need to plan a summer jaunt!!

Thanks @BocolateChiscuits

Also came to talk about stuffing...

CollagenLady · 30/01/2022 21:52

Hilarious 🤣🤣. I don't mind a bit of Paxo myself, but I'd rather go to Paxos 👙.

@daisychainsandrainbows @User478

I will remain hopeful for the next response!

I went as a teen, I remember it being very small and beautiful. We got around on a very rickety bus.

Wideawakeandconfused · 30/01/2022 22:07

We love it - have had lots of family holidays.

It’s a small island and super easy to drive around. The roads are quiet so not like driving in Corfu etc.

We love it for the boating and sea life. We spend most of our time out and about but if you don’t fancy doing it yourself, you can book a boat tour, or taxi over to Anti-Paxos which just beautiful.

Taxis are hard to come by as there aren’t many on the island but often the owner of the restaurant would kindly run us home.

Gaios is the main village so anywhere around that side should keep you all happy. That said, it’s only a 15 min drive to Loggos. It’s on the other side of the island and has a beautiful Sandy beach (most of the beaches are shingle so great for snorkelling.

Honestly, the island is tiny but has so much to give. We go with a group from 5 year olds to 80 year olds. You’ll have a great time.

Thanks so much !! ⭐️ @stairway @Wideawakeandconfused

What part would you recommend for a first timer? I like the sound of the Sandy beach area but are there any decent sized villages around there for the evenings?

Also I'm looking at villa companies, would you be able to suggest any recommendations?

Wow!! Anti Paxos looks incredible! My son and husband love to sail also, is it easy to rent boats when you're there?

Oh I love stuffing!

whirlycarly · 30/01/2022 22:34

We went on a trip from parga on the mainland and it's one of the prettiest places I've been. There were lots of boats for hire in paxos - I remember noticing!
The sea is an incredible colour around anti paxos. It took about 90 minutes by big boat from the mainland.

androbbob · 30/01/2022 22:37

I went there about 25 years ago on a sailing holiday and it was gorgeous and Anti Paxos even more so! Even despite having to leave in a thunderstorm and the big boat towing all the little boats like baby ducklings! Flight was to mainland and then a ferry across to Paxos. Went to both villages and were both lovely

wizzler · 30/01/2022 22:38

First thought was The Rooster Booster!

CollagenLady · 30/01/2022 22:41

@halfsiesonapotnoodle @wizzler

All hail the Paxo box ... 😬

We did similar - only I think even longer ago!Grin that was when Sunsail did shore based dinghy sailing holidays rather than just yachting, I'd love to find something similar now (smaller than the big Nielsen type resorts).

I too thought this thread was about stuffing mix.

Well never mind.

Wideawakeandconfused · 30/01/2022 22:44

Giaos is the best location for you as there is so much available- shopping, delicious bakeries, many restaurants, bars, and most boat trips go from the harbour side there.

I want to go back now!
Boats are easy to hire but we like to boat ahead as they get busy during the summer. Many of the boat companies have Facebook pages so they are easy to book. One of the best trips we took as a private boat charter for the day. They picked us up at 9am and we went right around the island to the best spots for snorkelling and swimming. They cooked a bbq on the boat and provided wine and soft drinks etc. we came back at about 4pm so well worth the price.

CollagenLady · 30/01/2022 22:44

@androbbob @whirlycarly

It sounds amazing, I'm definitely going to book a villa!!

Thanks for sharing your experiences, it really gave me a sense of the place.

I just watched a program on All Inclusive holidays and that made want to try something new this year 😵‍💫😅

I LOVE Paxos. Sooo quiet and untouristy. We stayed in a villa in Loggos - was heavenly. Enough tavernas for some variety. Can't recommend highly enough. Yes, it's a bit of a pain to get to, but so worth it.

DrDinosaur · 30/01/2022 22:54

I went in 2004, stayed in Lakka, it was beautiful, lots of restaurants around a harbor. I didn't have a car, I spent the days wandering on old paths through the olive groves to little bays. And eating delicious greek food.

CollagenLady · 30/01/2022 23:07

@Wideawakeandconfused

Giaos it is! I want to go there right now 😎.

I'll find a villa and pre book a boat as it's for early July.

Thanks for all the responses it's so helpful. 🏖☀️
