British crime drama recommedations

Hey, looking for a new drama to watch on TV. I've really gotten into crime dramas the past few months and have particularly enjoyed: broadchurch, the bay, happy valley, the fall, the stranger and safe. Not really into American crime dramas. If anyone could really British shows that would be great. Finished watching the loch last night but found it slightly too convulted near the end so maybe something slightly easier for my sleep addled brain (toddler going through a sleep regression phase!). Also love psychological thrillers so bonus points for those too please!

Do you know any of these older crime series?
Trial and retribution
Cracker
Wire in the blood
Prime suspect
I thought all of them were excellent and worth watching
I also thought the Nicola Walker series Unforgotten was very good

Harlan Coben’s Stay Safe (or any of theirs) on Netflix

Where can you watch Cracker and Wire in the Blood?

All series of Silent Witness are on iPlayer

riverpebbles · 29/01/2022 10:52

'Guilt' is Scottish and might still be on the BBC.

'Wanted' is Australian but ticks a lot of boxes. Cannot recommend highly enough.

'Mare of Easttown' is American but has a sort of 'gritty crime drama' feel rather than being a high-octane cop show. Again, highly highly recommend.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 29/01/2022 10:53

Whitechapel
Silk
Frost (admittedly old now)

riverpebbles · 29/01/2022 10:54

'The Pact' is Welsh, and v v good.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 29/01/2022 10:54

You can pay for Brit box on prime to watch alot of these, I had a deal of 99p a month for 3 months.

riverpebbles · 29/01/2022 11:00

Kind of assuming you've seen Line of Duty :)

LethargeMarg · 29/01/2022 11:00

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting so many replies! I have tried to watch line of duty @riverpebblesbut just couldn't get into it for some reason which is a shame as I love vicky mc clure. I have seen the pact though and loved it. Also really enjoyed the accident which I watched recently. I have Britbox @Rupertpenrysmistress, best 99p I ever spent! Grin thanks for all the suggestions everyone Smile

You need to get past the first series of Line of Duty IMO. I had to watch series 1 twice, once when it came out, and more recently when I binged 1-6. Series 1 is the weakest link, but you need it for the rest. I think it's the weakest as it leaves open ends (and I couldn't stand either Tony or Jackie) but it is so worth persevering with.

Not British, but The Bridge is amazing too. Also on iPlayer.

riverpebbles · 29/01/2022 11:16

I agree subsequent series of LOD were better. But also it isn't really as much of a drama as some of these others - more of a police procedural, which I like, but less emotional core.

sjxoxo · 29/01/2022 11:18

You must have already Seen it unless you’ve been living under a rock, but if you haven’t, Line of Duty!!! X

I know what you mean, american dramas can be too slick.

I love looking for BBC things on Netflix.
Have you watched White House Farm ? That was really good.
I watched something on Netflix about two pakistani brothers and the younger one was in danger of being sucked in to being radicalised. It was very good. Not on Netflix anymore :-( Wish I could remember its name. There was nobody famous in it and the name was something like undercover but now I look there's a dutch series with that name.

burnthur5t · 29/01/2022 11:37

Angela Black
Silent Witness

Turnitupto11 · 29/01/2022 11:42

Wallander, not British, but Kenneth Branagh and gritty, not American slick!

UserBotTrending · 29/01/2022 11:42

It's called ''Informer'' @TheBlueBear88

It's not on Netflix anymore but if you have amazon prime it's on there. It's so good. I was HOOKED. The characters really got under my skin.

Also, there's a Swedish thing ''Before we die''. I watched the swedish version as well as the UK version! It's on all 4

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/01/2022 11:44

The Responder on iPlayer

Littlepaws18 · 29/01/2022 11:44
