Phone for 11 yo

Dd will be starting secondary school in Sept. She will be getting the bus/walking. We are thinking to get her a phone but not sure which one. What phones do you 11-12 year olds have? I don’t want her to feel left out but I only want her to have a very basic one for emergencies.

11 yo phone was one of our cast offs. So 3 to 4 year old samsung.

They will want whats app t

..to keep up with friends. And tiktok, yt for silly videos.

Both do have risks but i think better to navigate those than ban.

DD has my old iPhone 8.

My DS11 has an iPhone that we bought second hand. He has a class WhatsApp group where they ask each other about homework etc. so it’s useful for that. Plus we can track where he is at all times.

My 10 year old currently has my old i phone 8.

My kids all have Motorolas. Cheap, don't get nicked, robust. But I don't buy my phones on contract so have no old ones to give them.
