8 week old Amina died with 60 broken bones.
Her parents have been imprisoned for a combined 15 years.

Combined. 7.5 or so years each.

Rest in peace darling girl. I'm so very very sorry that you didn't get better.

Can these sentences be sent for review as being unduly lenient? I bloody hope so.

VioletOcean · 28/01/2022 21:36

Hope there’s a sentence review and it’s upped by many many many years

plantmadness · 28/01/2022 21:37

@Georgeskitchen

I don't understand this charge of "causing or allowing the death of a child " why is this different from murder which attracts a much longer sentence? 7 years each for causing 65 injuries? Am I missing something?
Causing or allowing cams about because often in these cases there were two adults in the home at the time. Each would blame the other and many, many people literally got away with murder. By having the offence of causing or allowing it means that where each adult blames the other or stays silent/no comment they can still be charged and hopefully convicted of something rather than walking Scott free

but you'll get the 'oh you can't take that right away' 'oh they might be better next time, they should get a chance'.... bleeding hearts.

I'm a bleeding heart and I wouldn't force surgery on someone. But I also don't think they should ever have the chance to parent again.

Theimpossiblegirl · 28/01/2022 21:39

This is just the saddest thing. I love my girls with every fibre of my being and would do anything to keep them safe. Every child deserves that. RIP little baby.

shivabeaver · 28/01/2022 21:39

Can't even imagine the pain that poor baby must have been in. I don't get it, will never get it.

NotsoNeurotypical · 28/01/2022 21:40

It says they were also both sentenced for abuse against another child under 16 at the same time so probably a sibling.
I can't imagine what drives somebody to hurt a 8 week old baby. It's incomprehensible just too fucking awful
Poor baby, RIP and I hope the other child is in a place of safety and healing now and can recover from this awful trauma.

NotsoNeurotypical · 28/01/2022 21:43

I'm not a bleeding heart but I don't believe anyone should be medically sterilised. I also don't think these people should ever be allowed custody of a child ever again. But forced sterilisation sets a horrible precedent. It's the same reason I am anti the death penalty even for monsters like these. We need to do something about our child abuse and murder laws in this country though because 3.5 years (do half) is a drop in the ocean of what these fuckers deserve.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 28/01/2022 21:44

15 years. What a joke! Bastards should rot in there!! RIP sweet Angel I'm so sorry that all you knew in your short life was pain and fear

I'm a medium bleeding heart and I see your point here. But I think this is more an argument against 'concept creep' than anything else. If we could hold that in check, which I admit is a tall order, I'd be fucking thrilled with these two given long acting contraception. Though you're right, it's an ethical minefield.
IlIlI · 28/01/2022 22:08

So why can't judges rule people like this be sterilised when I'm sure I've read lots about disabled people being sterilised?
There was a big case in the news some years ago, if I remember correctly, where the judge ruled it for a woman with learning difficulties who had 5/6 children. But people who literally murder a child on purpose should have the right to have more children. Yes, it's unlikely they'll ever have custody of any of those children (in the UK at least) but then it's just how many children being taken away and all the trauma that goes with it instead. It doesn't make any sense to me.

But how do you stop this, can't stop her getting pregnant again, and unless she's monitored for the rest of her life she can easily dissappear, get pregnant and have a repeat of this.
DueyCheatemAndHow · 29/01/2022 21:01

I'm conflicted.

On the one hand I totally see why forcible sterilisation is ethically monumentally difficult.

However I also see that after 3 wretched years they will be out. I'm assuming that any future children would go straight into care. So what's the point? How is that fair on the children?

How are we at this point? It does feel like every day there is another in the news.

Stephen Waterson - who killed 2 year old Alfie Lamb by crushing him to death in his car- has been released. He's been in prison for 2 years since being sentenced.

And people wonder why far right parties are doing well.
