I never realised my milk drinking habits were strange! Are yours?

Partly inspired from another thread where someone said that only people over forty drink cow's milk.

I am close to 40 at 37, but I only drink semi-skimmed cows milk and have done for years. I'll drink almond or soya if a friend or family provides it, obviously, but I also see it as knowingly looking at the more expensive price. Any one else?!

Disclaimer: I know I don't drink as much milk as other people anyway, so no judgement here just curiosity!

Are there any other items that people under or over a certain age are probably not having?

This is really weird because don't most toddlers go from breast/formula to cows milk?

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 27/01/2022 21:16

@StarlingsAreAmazing

Knowing that the milk was destined for the calf, which will be slaughtered instead,is sad enough before realising a farmer has to stick their arm up the cows arse to impregnate her over and over is enough to put me off. (Can't imagine it's all too pleasant for the farmer either)
How is the farmer impregnating the cow here?! I’m no biologist or animal husbander but it’s arse??

@Onatree

Sometimes I just don’t know what people on Mumsnet are on about. Drink what the fuck you want. 🤷‍♀️
Completely agree, I have no idea why anyone would think a perfectly normal thing like drinking milk is unusual in the slightest, weird Grin

They aren’t, in the slightest and I’m not sure why you think they are Confused

34 and I drink semi skinned milk.I suspect the person who said that is vegan with lots of vegan friends.

Toasterandjam · 27/01/2022 21:20

Not very invested in this one but just to say.....Rice milk is vile.

PriamFarrl · 27/01/2022 21:23

Do you mean that you drink a glass of milk, as opposed to just having it in tea, on cereal etc? Is that what you mean is odd?

Wizzbangfizz · 27/01/2022 21:24

I don't drink any milk - hate it.

Bentoforthehorde · 27/01/2022 21:28

Is this a regional thing?
I've spent the last 20 years drinking unsweetened soy milk because of a milk intolerance, dd had oat milk as a toddler for the same reason. But if I tried to give my friends and family alternative milks in their tea they'd think I've lost the plot.
Yorkshire folk drink milk, in my experience at least.

I don't either - it hates me.

But the substitutes are worse.

Bloody hell! Completely used the wrong word!!! INSEMINATE not impregnate jesus. I'm a twat!

StarlingsAreAmazing · 27/01/2022 21:36

Here is how it's done.

I never realised my milk drinking habits were strange! Are yours?
shedevill · 27/01/2022 21:37

Plant milk all day long, have done for several years, for the cows that have their babies stolen after 24 hours year on year Flowers If I have to drink dairy milk (out of politeness at other houses when I forget to take my own), it tastes so thin and moudly and disgusting. Other parts of the world don't have this obsession with cow's milk and are naturally lactose intolerant, it's not a requisite for people to drink another animal's baby food

HadEnough798 · 27/01/2022 21:41

I don't drink any. My brother (40s) didn't realise that cows have to be pregnant and have calves which are then taken away to make milk. He used to drink pints of the stuff because he genuinely thought that all cows make milk 'naturally'.

Now he also only drinks soya/oat!

PattyPan · 27/01/2022 21:44

I haven’t drunk cow’s milk since I was an infant. Drinking another animal’s milk is weird! I’m 27.

RaoulDufysCat · 27/01/2022 21:47

I'm 53 and haven't drunk cows milk for decades. I think it's disgusting.

Snowiscold · 27/01/2022 21:48

I stopped drinking cow’s milk at about 40. I used to have a lot. I’m now mid-50s. I now only have plant-based milk.

FoggySpecs · 27/01/2022 22:19

I would describe myself as most unusual, I'm 45 and I love cow's milk, I drink about a pint a day. I sometimes buy a small bottle and neck it on my way home from the shops. Dairy is my weakness, I literally eat cream straight from the carton and yoghurt by the gallon. It's probably the only thing I could never give up. My kids hate it, my mother hates it, I just can't get enough. Ice cold milk, I drink semi-skimmed mostly.

Bakewelltart987 · 27/01/2022 22:22

Age 36 only ever drank cows milk. I've never seen any 1 use different either when been to friends/family houses.

wlv12 · 27/01/2022 22:25

I drink oat milk - it’s lovely and creamy in coffee or on cereal.

AlwaysLatte · 27/01/2022 22:27

My son drinks loads of milk and he's 14. I like milk too and I'm 50.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 27/01/2022 22:29

One thing I find interesting is the number of people who don't drink milk for ethical reasons, but do eat cheese... cows milk cheese... how is that more ethical?!

FoamBurst · 27/01/2022 22:33

I'm a similar age.
The only time I've tried a non dairy milk is when I couldn't figure out why ds hated the one id got him (he has cmpa) and it was so vile. (was a cheap long life one as everywhere local was out of stock of his fresh ' more expensive' one)
DH then drove to a tesco 15 miles away after ringing to check they had some to get his regular one. And he downed 2, 8oz bottles full. He wasn't soley on milk he was 18m so not starving but due to various reasons he drinks a lot of milk.
