My baby has just turned 6 months and we're trying to get him to sit up and crawl. Just wondering what age your babies didGrin

Ds1 sat up at 5.5 months, crawled by 7 months and walked at 9. Once he figured out what legs were for there was no stopping him.
Ds2 sat up at 6 months, crawled around 8 months and demanded to be carried everywhere. Did not walk until 13 months. Far more laid back character.

SartresSoul · 29/01/2022 06:58

All were sitting by 6 months and crawling by 8 months. Didn’t walk until 15, 17 and 18 months though!

Lostmyway86 · 29/01/2022 07:11

Dd1 - sitting 5 months, crawling 7 months, walking 10 months.

DD2 - sitting 7 months, crawling 9 months, still not walking at 15 months.

Crawled at 5 months, sat at 6

Svara · 29/01/2022 07:19

@Sleepybear12

My dd did it backwards and crawled at 4-5 months, was sitting confidently at 6 months.
Mine 'backwards' as well. Seemed very natural to me though, if a baby can get into a sitting position surely they are ready to crawl?
Twizbe · 29/01/2022 07:26

Both mine crawled at 11 months.

Enjoy them not being able to move and staying in one place.

Caspianberg · 29/01/2022 07:29

I’m still jealous of people who can put 9-10 months down and they just lay or sit there with a toy!
Mine was trying to hurdle though house building works, climb the stairs and superman leap off the sofa.
It’s only a year on that I feel my sanity returning a fraction.

Somethingvague · 29/01/2022 07:37

Ds - sitting 6.5 months, crawling 8.5 months, walking 11 months.
Dd - sitting 6.5 months, crawling 10months, walking 16 months.

Dd is much more chilled out than Ds.

chipshopElvis · 29/01/2022 07:38

Oldest sat up about six months, never crawled because he loved sitting.

Youngest sat up at 5.5 months, never crawled because she could pull to standing and cruise round the furniture at 6 months (not fun).

Svara · 29/01/2022 07:40

@Caspianberg
DS wasn't happy being put down until he could crawl, that stage did not exist, only if you were on the floor with him. Crawling was great as he was suddenly fine with not being carried all day!

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 29/01/2022 07:41

Ds was so late sitting up unaided- about 9 months ,.I was really worried! But he started standing up at the age too , holding onto the sofa etc
He never crawled , just started walking at 11 months
Babies like to do the unexpected!

WhatsWrongWithMyUsername · 29/01/2022 07:42

DC1 - sat up 5 months, crawled 8 months (walked 9 months)

DC2 - sat up 6 or 7 months, crawled 11.5 months (walked 15 months).

DC2 is way more sporty and coordinated than DC1.

Shamoo · 29/01/2022 07:55

DD sat and crawled at just past six months. Lovely but nightmare 😂

zaffa · 29/01/2022 08:15

@MimiDaisy11

Mine has been a bit behind with physical milestones. I wonder if it’s because he’s big.

He still can’t sit properly at 7 months but is getting better at it.

This was my theory with DD. She could sit if I put her into a seated position from around six ish months, but was 10 months before she could put herself into that position and get out of it. Crawled around the same time (rolled about before that from around six months). Walked at 15 months I think. Now at two she runs everywhere and hops like a bunny at every opportunity!
MargaretThursday · 29/01/2022 08:19

1 sat up 6 months exactly, crawled 9 months
2 sat up 11 months, crawled 5 months (if you tried to sit her up she flipped onto her front and crawled off)
3 sat up 6 months, crawled 7 months

BertieBotts · 29/01/2022 09:06

Getting into a seated position themselves is a later milestone than remaining in a seated position when placed there. They need some of the crawling type development which (usually not always) tends to come after sitting strength.

My baby has just turned 6 months and we're trying to get him to sit up and crawl.

It doesn't really work like that. The age range for these things is huge but it's not really something you can try to get them to do, it's developmental and will happen when baby is ready.

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 29/01/2022 09:12

DC1 was sitting unaided at 8 months, crawled at 10 months, walked at 13 months

DC2 was sitting unaided at 7 months, crawled at 18 months and walked at 20 months.

We had absolutely ages with DC2 just sitting and playing happily without getting into mischief. It was bliss. By the time she was mobile she was aware of danger and was so easy in comparison with DC1. DC1 rolled across whole rooms at 4.5 months and was into everything!

romany4 · 29/01/2022 09:20

Ds1 sitting at 6 months.
Crawling at 8 months

Ds2 sitting at 5 1/2 months
Never crawled. Bum shuffled till he was 17 months then got up and walked.. He was a speedy bugger on his bum!

Allpenguinsarepingus · 29/01/2022 09:24

Crawled at 5 months. Sat up at 7 months - the day he starting pulling up to standing on the furniture was also the day he starting staying sitting up aided. Walked just before 10months…

DS couldn't stay sitting until he got there himself, I had to be next to him, he'd topple over if he reached for a toy. That was at four months though, he crawled at five, sat at six so I didn't actually try in between.
BertieBotts · 29/01/2022 09:53

Yes DS1 was the same. I was a bit confused about it until I had DS2!

Ours is 9 months and just about starting to make crawling movements. Doesnt sit up yet. He had some physio earlier to help him with development in this area but it did make things evern worse.

I wonder what you mean by "get him to sit up and crawl"? You cant really make them do it, they have to develop the right muscles and get there mentaly to make it happen.

We've been told it often happens with big babies.
Indecisive29 · 29/01/2022 10:40

My DS is now 15months.

Sat up at 5ish months
Commando crawled about 7months
Was cruising at 8/8.5months
Didn’t master proper crawling until just before 10months
Walked at 10.5months 😬 by 11m he was running around like a 2 year old 😅

I’m sure as you can see from all these replies @mumtobee22 they all just get there in their own time 🤣 there’s such a huge range of “normal” so try not to get too caught up in what they ‘should’ be doing 😊 at the end of the day - once they’re a bit older nobody can tell the difference between the ones that sat/crawled/walked early and the ones that got there a bit later 😊
