Anyone one else hate the way they look in the hairdresser's mirror?!?!

Literally had this all my life! I'll been feeling good about myself - skin is good, weight is down etc - and then I'll sit myself down at the hairdressers, stare at my reflection and suddenly feel deeply depressed at how ugly I am GrinGrinGrin Is it just me or is this a thing??

When they wet your hair and make you look down and you can't resist the urge to peak at your reflection Confused yes, I look like.... Confused

This sums it up

Anyone one else hate the way they look in the hairdresser's mirror?!?!
grey12 · 27/01/2022 10:56

I look like a wet rat even with dry straightened hair (even though my hair is straight it had a big of volume) so super wet combed down Confused

tbh the hairdresser experience is overall not my favourite...... I really don't like the washing basin, I don't like that most hairdressers don't know how to cut my hair, I get anxious...... if my hair requires half hour work to look good in the morning, it is NOT a good haircut!

Cheekypeach · 27/01/2022 10:57

Haha the opposite for me! In my front facing camera on my phone I look like a blob with eyes, in the hairdresser mirror I look like Scarlett Johansson.

grey12 · 27/01/2022 10:59

Dog no1.....

Hahaha the hairdresser mirror of shame!!
I don’t think I’m bad looking, at all, but sit me in front of that mirror, all wet hair and little capes. It’s like looking at a human thumb with copious chins 😂

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 27/01/2022 11:01

I can only thank God for masks, they hide everything and I no longer have to look at it.
It's especially awful when you are taking a picture on your camera and it suddenly switches to self portrait. I screamed last time.
I am not taking ageing very well.

Divebar2021 · 27/01/2022 11:06

My trick is to ramp up the make-up. I don’t wear tons normally but make a special effort to put on more for my hair appointments. I personally can’t stand the big big mirrors where you can see most of your body.. I always look huge. We need small mirrors and candle light.

Oh god that never happens to me! Ive never looked good in the hairdressers mirror. Today it's particularly bad. Today I have discovered I look like this:

My skin always looks absolutely atrocious when I look in their mirrors. It's something I'm self conscious about as I've had major issues with it since I was 10. On the whole I think it's okay now, and with a bit of makeup nobody would notice it was an issue.. but in those mirrors, oh dear.

This is true. I should have put some make up on but to be honest I thought I'd be wearing a mask and didn't realise today we don't have to wear them anymore... so stuck looking at my entire face for the first time in ages!

Haha, all of this!

That’s why my hairdresser comes to my house, not a mirror in sight until the very end when it’s all beautiful and swish.

CloudPop · 27/01/2022 11:21

I look 20 years older in the hairdressers mirror. I was actually saying this to her just the other day.

PattyPan · 27/01/2022 11:53

Yep. I cut my own hair now but always used to look like a thumb in the hairdresser’s mirror!

Yep. And for some reason my skin always looks extra baggy around my jawline and my neck looks a lot thick wider than I remembered. This is of course heightened by the 20 year old hairdresser stood behind me.

Every spot and blemish is magnified. My eyebrows always look horrific! I used to try to get them done just beforehand.

I have tried to wear more make up but I find then it gets washed off around the hairline and i just look even worse.

I can also see every hair on my face and it makes me super paranoid.

Bloodybridget · 27/01/2022 12:39

Pretty awful, but not nearly as bad as in photos.

HeathenPlayingHouse · 27/01/2022 12:43

Every time. Wet hair, no makeup- you glance at the mirror and Severus bloody Snape is looking back at you!

WellTidy · 27/01/2022 12:45

The last time I went to the hairdresser (October) I vowed to myself that I’d have lost weight by the time I next went. Then of course we had Christmas and new year. I’ve lost 6lb, but that is the 6lb I gained in December, so I’m back where I was in October, and my appointment is on Tuesday. Crap.

I mostly use a mobile hairdresser too. I only have have basic trim (long hair) but it does have disadvantages like the time I later discovered I had an uneven cut.

However as I am very short sighted the odd time I go to a salon I can't see what they are doing anyway.

FrazzledY9Parent · 27/01/2022 12:57

My hairdressers have curtains you can draw across the mirrors - genius!

DahliaMacNamara · 27/01/2022 12:58

I like the intermediate stage, where my thick hair is being blow-dried and brushed into submission, and you can't really see my face, just an overall vision of tousled sexiness. Once my face begins to emerge and he starts to shape my mop into its regular dated frump, it's all over and my eyes start to wander in sheer self-defence. I actually blow dry it better myself, but this particular hairdresser gives it the best cut, so I have to look at the bigger picture. And fix my hair when I get back in the house and my mirrors are more forgiving.
