Anyone one else hate the way they look in the hairdresser's mirror?!?!

Literally had this all my life! I'll been feeling good about myself - skin is good, weight is down etc - and then I'll sit myself down at the hairdressers, stare at my reflection and suddenly feel deeply depressed at how ugly I am GrinGrinGrin Is it just me or is this a thing??

I always feel like I need to apologise to my hairdresser for my complete hideousness. For some reason the hairdressers mirror makes me feel ugly as fuck. I'm quite plain in real life anyway and I'm okay with that, but in that mirror...... just full on cringe at myself.

JaneJeffer · 27/01/2022 22:41

Yes I want to know why I look awful in the hairdressers' mirror but none of the hairdressers do. Hmm

whatnumber · 27/01/2022 22:47

I have this in shop mirrors.
Caught sight of myself today and thought jeez I look rough 😭

Same op.
But when I was young and pretty even then looked atrocious +

I hate the way I look in every mirror!

indianbackground · 27/01/2022 23:17

Hate myself in mirrors and photos. I can’t see without glasses so no idea what the hairdresser is actually doing I have to trust to luck. I hate the bit when they show me the back. I’m ready to go so, eyes finally able to see again with glasses so I don’t them starting to cut if it’s too long and a bit late to ask them to stick it back on if it’s too short.

@Deadringer

This sums it up
I love this, I came here to post the same thing GrinGrin
AsYouWishButtercup · 28/01/2022 00:38

@Cheekypeach

Haha the opposite for me! In my front facing camera on my phone I look like a blob with eyes, in the hairdresser mirror I look like Scarlett Johansson.
I’m like this - in the mirror I often think “ph I look lovely today” and then when someone takes a picture my face is basically just a circle with a load of lopsided shapes stuck on it.

I’m told I look very different in pictures though!

Deadringer · 28/01/2022 11:01

I am in the hairdressers right now, wondering who the old hag in the mirror is.

This is what I mean!! Just always look my very very worst, like these mirrors are there to let you know that you do NOT look as good as you thought you did!

I’m convinced hair salons and clothing retailers would double their profits if they invested in flattering lighting.

Cakemonger · 28/01/2022 14:50

I stopped dreading it when I realised it's like having your photo done - just wear a lot more makeup than you would normally. Really rescues your self esteem.

In fairness OP in that picture you posted of yourself your remaining teeth are lovely and white! Wink

This is why I'm glad I need glasses to see anything. I can just take them off when sat in the hairdresser's chair and continue to live in blissful ignorance..... Grin

Ha ha ha I am actually VERY short sighted but I wore my lenses. I think I'll wear my specs in future, then I can take them off and just stare at the big blur in front of me, blissfully unaware of my ugliness GrinGrinGrin

Yes! Why do I look like I have a big ball face! And I'm always red faced! Doesn't help that my hairdresser is very petite and slim and really really tanned (sunbeds) so I look even more pale that my usual sheet white, I'm almost blue but with a big round red face and thin hair!

I hear you. Actually my hairdressers have never been anything special in the past but the one I've had for the past year, who cut my hair yesterday, is depressingly lovely to look at.

When I'm sitting there with colour on the roots and the rest of the hair sticking out at Worzel Gummidge angles I try to avoid looking, but for some perverse reason can't resist taking constant peeks at myself.

I used to go to a salon that had full length mirrors and huge high chairs - sitting there with the long black gown on I looked like a statue of Queen Victoria!

Ha ha my hair is not what I'd usually consider thin but THOSE mirrors tell me otherwise

It's especially awful when you are taking a picture on your camera and it suddenly switches to self portrait. I screamed last time.

Ha ha ha, it's a shocker isn't it? Always makes me jump Grin

Ha ha yes indeed the black gown that goes all the way up to your chin ( at least mine does) does not help matters

Yeah all the time, I always seem to look like I've got jaundice. Ahhh and I'm getting my hair cut on Thursday, dreading it

SartresSoul · 29/01/2022 06:56

I remember when they used to blow dry mine as a teenager when I had it cut quite short and I looked like a blob with a big round bush on top of my head. It was horrendous. I’m going today to a salon for the first time in years (usually just have my hairdresser Mum cut it) and I’m dreading the mirror of doom!
