Well that was a tantalising 10 mins with the unclaimed premium bond prize list

It goes back to 1957!

But alas, none of mine were on there. Not even from the years they didn't have my up-to-date address.

Pah!

It's here, in case anyone should strike lucker than me.Grin

It won't let me open the I'll have to look on my laptop tomorrow

SuperSocks · 24/01/2022 01:55

Can you still claim no matter how long ago the win would have been?

BarbaraofSeville · 24/01/2022 05:31

Yes @SuperSocks. I suppose you'd need to prove that the bond is yours - they're linked by name and NI.

I don't know what happens if the holder has died though. Would it have to be included in inheritence and reassigned to someone to claim?

From that list I can see that there are 5 unclaimed £100k prizes from very old bonds - the starting numbers are all very low (5-10) and if you buy bonds these days, the number at the beginning is in the 400s.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 24/01/2022 06:24

Can I ask how it works @PerkingFaintly please? The link won't open. Do you need to search the numbers manually yourself? Thanks.

PermanentTemporary · 24/01/2022 06:46

Yes I wonder whether they get information about deaths. Surely they must do, or they could do?

I cashed my £5 of premium bonds from 1970 in a long time ago so not sure why I'm looking Grin

PerkingFaintly · 24/01/2022 11:26

Oh, try this page if it isn't working. Apparently there's even a prize-checker app for recent prizes!

www.nsandi.com/beta/search/help/unclaimed%20prizes

The full unclaimed list is a loooong text file. I used Find and checked my numbers individually.

It was very exciting on the occasions I'd typed in five digits and there were still matches. Alas, come digit six... Sad

Anyone have any luck?

OP posts:
BarryTheKestrel · 25/01/2022 22:08

The link won't open on my phone but will get on the laptop in the morning as I'm sure I have a few bonds out there. No idea how I'd go about claiming though. They were bought for me by my great grandmother at birth and honestly I always forget they exist/may have cashed them in years ago for a small amount and forgotten about it!

PerkingFaintly · 26/01/2022 18:39

Sorry people are still having trouble with links. Maybe the front page is safest: www.nsandi.com

Scroll down to "Prize Checker" at the bottom.

SuperSocks · 27/01/2022 20:05

Urgh, no, nothing. Mind you I only have £130 worth...

purpleme12 · 27/01/2022 20:20

I typed mine in prize checker it said no luck time and then right underneath it said
you have £75 in unclaimed prizes

I don't understand?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/01/2022 20:23

That’s a job that’s just been added to my ‘to do’ list.

I’ll let you know if I have any success 🤞🏻

PerkingFaintly · 27/01/2022 20:26

@purpleme12

Shock

So you've won £75 in an earlier draw and not claimed it?!

OP posts:
ponkydonkey · 27/01/2022 20:30

I found some of my grandparents premium bonds in their stuff... they were from the 1950's
No idea if they've been cashed in or not!

purpleme12 · 27/01/2022 20:30

These premium bonds I've had for years from many addresses ago
Which is why I checked them after reading this thread
To be honest I wasn't really sure how they worked
Does this mean I've won £75 in an earlier draw then?

PerkingFaintly · 27/01/2022 20:34

YES! YES YOU HAVE!

PerkingFaintly · 27/01/2022 20:36

You need to get in touch with National Savings & Investments pronto and update all your contact info with them.

Congratulations!

OK this is officially the best thread ever now Wine

What year was your win?

JustWonderingIfYou · 27/01/2022 20:39

How do you know your bond numbers?

I know I had about £400 worth as a child but I've not seen any letter since I won £20 in the 90s.

PerkingFaintly · 27/01/2022 20:40

ponkydonkey, there's information on Premium Bonds after someone dies here: www.nsandi.com/help/manage-money-for-others/customers-who-have-died

IIUC the Bonds cease to be eligible for prizes after 12 months from the date of death. However I don't know whether you'd be able to cash them in. Best to ask NS&I.

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 27/01/2022 20:41

2018 and 2018 it says!
Wow I'm really glad I found this thread now!

PerkingFaintly · 27/01/2022 20:42

JustWonderingIfYou what you need is your Holder Number, which will be on any modern correspondence or Bond.

When I updated my address with them after decades, they sent me a letter listing all my Bond numbers.

JustWonderingIfYou · 27/01/2022 20:46

Thank you. Suspect mine are all lost then! Hope there's a few more winners.

Very useful thread Smile

SuperSocks · 27/01/2022 20:46

I'm confused now. It let me check whether I'd had a recent win, but now I've tried to set up an account so they can notify me by email in future but it says that the format of my NS&I number isn't write? The NS&I number is the same as your holders number right?
